If you are not in a hurry, stop here for fresh made tacos, burritos and other Mexican eats. visited their colorful food truck at MuralFest in The Dalles, needing some protein to tide me over for dinner. Whenever I buy three street tacos elsewhere, I'm full after two so this time I ordered two carnitas tacos. Even though there was just one order ahead of me, it took a super long time. So long that I almost went to the window to ask if they forgot about me. When the tacos arrived, they were hot having been freshly cooked. The carnitas were flavorful, but nothing spectacular, just ok. They were served in two small corn tortillas, each taco three bites. Needless to say, I was still hungry and easily could have eaten three more. But no way was I going to wait that long again. While I may give them another try if I'm running errands by Home Depot, I'll probably order a burrito knowing the tacos are really small. But Tacos Tumbras will never be my go-to taco place since there are other Mexican Trucks and taquerias in The Dalles that serve fabulous tacos piled high with meat and take five bites to eat. read more

We spotted Tacos Tumbras on our way to pick up some lumber at Home Depot in The Dalles. We got a tostada (pollo), 3 tacos (asada) and 2 tacos (carnitas). Friendly, helpful service and quick enough for us. Really delicious home-style Mexican food like I eat when teaching at universities down in Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Baja California, etc. I really, really recommend checking this place out. WOW! So much WOW! Stopped for a road burrito at this amazing food cart because my husband recalled seeing it on a work trip. Don't miss the fabulous food they serve here. My GF and I had burritos here. She had a chicken burrito and I had the Adovada. 10$ burrito was pretty good sized. Loncharia de Jalisco was bigger and better rolled. Mine was collapsing and a little messy. Burritos came with a verde sauce and what I am pretty sure was habanero sauce. The salsas were good. Pouring sweat from the habanero sauce. The burritos were a little on the plain side but traditional from a Mexican standpoint. Rice beans meat onions and cilantro. The flavors were on point. My adovada was very tasty and my GF vacillated between a 3 and a 4. We settled on 4 stars. The food was tasty and maybe tacos would be better next time but this place is pretty good. We are continuing our mission to review all the Mexican places here in the Dalles. I was a chef for twenty years and grew up in California so I am no stranger to good Mexican food. I don't write Yelp reviews very often, because to me the food has to be mind-blowing in order to justify the effort. Then I tried Tacos Tumbras. A friend recommended this place to me, and at first I blew it off because I've eaten a thousand tacos from a thousand places claiming to have the best tacos around. Well, these tacos were perfect. Every ingredient was fresh and expertly prepared, from the tortillas, to the grilled veggies, to the steak and chicken that was cooked in a way that made the flavors burst. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. Sad that a dining experience this good happens so rarely any more. I'm still thinking about those tacos, and I can't wait to get back to The Dalles for another round. read more

Tacos Tumbras does not care about this community and even more importantly the children in it. They clearly care about bottom dollar and although I respect the need to make money any good local business needs to understand in The Dalles caring about the community is the difference between success and failure. Especially when they received the honor of being invited to host such an event for said children that ultimately supports our whole community. From the minute we placed our order to the moment we did not ever receive it, it was clear they were there for all the wrong reasons. They showed no kindness or care as tickets were handed out to the children for a couple tacos or a cheese quesadilla as a reward for their bravery. I am confident Tacos Tumbras received fair financial compensation for these tickets but if you paid for your food with a ticket and tip(yes, I even tipped more than fairly) they moved it to the back of the line. We watched customer after customer receive their food and observing those who received their food, it was obvious they purchased more than just what the ticket awarded them. Finally, when our number came up over 30 minutes later, which was totally numerically out of order btw, they handed the order to another "paying" customer who even admitted it was not theirs and we suggested it might be ours. As the server just ignored us and pulled the food back in, we finally decided to just walk away with our sad kid. Again, I am confident they were well paid for hosting this event but I guess it wasn't enough for them to get a child out of the cold night and help them feel rewarded for what they went through. It is hard to describe the disappointment and disgust I felt watching this in action. Almost as much disgust as I felt watching the owner of the truck scratch his private parts in between taking orders and the smell of rancid cooking oil. No eye contact or attention was paid to who was who and as I implied, the tickets simply seemed to be grouped into three groups. Those who paid cash, those who partially paid with cash and those who used just the reward ticket. Cash paid orders were clearly first group, orders in the middle were the second group and tickets in the third category were in the last group. These guys should be ashamed of how they handled this event and hopefully never be invited to host another. The children should have been treated as a priority not as non-paying customers. I will never buy another taco from this stand and I hope you all will stand behind me. There are other good, even better, taco trucks in town, please switch lines! Not to mention, I have a close friend who told me later they have actually found pubic hair in their food from here and another who is fully Hispanic and eats lots of tacos but for some reason feels every time after eating at this truck they end up with GI problems! If we are going to remain a small community with limited food options compared to the big city, let's makes them worthy of having a name and place here! People waiting for their orders has roots growing from their feet.. 25-30 min wait for only a burrito..ridicilous! Highly not recommended. Id never go back. They had a bad attitude and when my husband asked if they could make a "super" quesadilla with Avacado, jalapeño, tomatoes, onions and sour cream- they said yes but the quesadilla had meat and cheese with maybe 3 slices of Avacado and they piled lettuce, tomato and sour cream on top. The absolute best taco truck in the gorge. The owner's are very funny and make the experience even better. The food is phenomenal and I suggest the California Burrito, it's like Asada Fries but wrapped up in a tortilla. Their adovada meat is very flavorful and the perfect amount of greasy especially for a hangover meal after you had a few too many beers with your buddies the night before! They have AMAZING customer service-everyone who is there is funny, polite, and incredibly enjoyable. Their gauc green sauce is HEAVEN!! and their regular green/red (not too hot-leaves a kick behind) are perfect consistency and just wow. Thursday is a taco day, I think it's basic tacos for $1 but you have to try the Pineapple Pork taco. They're about $2 to $3 for the tacos depending on toppings. I went to Tacos Tumbras for $1 taco Thursday. They guy at the window treated me pretty lousy. There were people ordering before me all being charged a dollar per taco. When I placed my order I was charged $2 per taco. I waited a second to see if he was going to correct the price as it was $1 taco Thursday. He didn't. I had to say myself, "isn't it $1 per taco?" He pretended not to hear me. So I asked again. He still didn't answer pretending to be busy. I then asked why he's charging me double.. he said he was kidding. He really wasn't. I waited about thirty minutes for the tacos.. the men behind me got their food before me. I asked why, and was told they called in the order. That wasn't true as I saw him personally order after me. The guy running the window and money, stepped to the side to dress some tacos with his bare hands after handling cash.
