GIVE THESE CHURROS 3 MICHELIN STARS…read more
Let me start by saying I am not a dessert guy. I've had maybe one or two churros in my life that I thought were decent. Generally, churros are not my thing.
But scattered throughout CDMX you'll find El Moro, a shop almost singularly focused on churros. The locations are clean, spacious, and have the vibe of what In-N-Out might look like if it had a blue-branded side hustle.
For 16 pesos, you can buy a churro and have it tossed in cinnamon sugar, maybe with a pinch of salt. Standing there, I found myself asking how a place like this could survive selling churros alone.
I've already been back three times in the past ten days.
This is not what you would normally call a churro. It's a fried, crispy mass with a perfect crunch on the outside and a gooey, molten interior, blending into a single bite that somehow stays light, crisp, and rich all at once. The whole thing leaves you asking yourself what do they have in this powder?
The line is always long, which means the churros never really get cold. As long as you're not the only one there, which you won't be, you're almost guaranteed a perfect one.
Even if you don't do sweets, and even if you don't particularly like churros, you HAVE TO TRY THESE!
Happy eating from John Seeto!
