Stopped by after work and grab a couple of tacos (1 chicken and 1 carnitas). They give you a choice of shells and come topped to onions and cilantro. They dont skimp on the meat either. But the meat needs more flavor. They have a cold bar with salsas and topping options from radish to grilled jalapenos. The toppings really kick the tacos up a notch. Although authentic Mexican in Atlanta area is indeed excellent, the quality here was a bit below average for a few reasons. Part I: Clean All Day! In fact, this restaurant is so clean, the moment you walk in it wreaks of bleach and you see people cleaning everywhere. I can see what the other reviewers meant by clean. Although cleanliness is a good thing, eating in an enclosed space wreaking of bleach is not the most pleasant experience (I got my order to go). Part II: On The Dry Side Although the lengua taco was excellent, the Barbacoa and beef tacos were very dry. Authentic indeed, but the meat itself wasn't great, just poor quality. They didn't even give salsa to go to make it taste a bit better. So, overall as far as the meal goes, it was authentic, but disappointing. Part III: Empty and Caged When I came here for dinner half an hour before closing time on a Tuesday, the place was rather empty. Not sure if they get more hoping on a weekend, but somehow I suspect not. The neighborhood isn't great by any means, thus the bars on the windows. This place is the bomb dot com!!!! I eat here weekly sometimes more. By far my favorite Mexican bite in the entire city. The can almost never do any wrong, the holiday hours are my only qualm as you never know how they will operate during the holiday season. If you are looking for authentic Southern Californian Mexican food in Atlanta your search is over. Taco Prado makes me so happy. For one their salsa bar is banging, and they aren't stingy with it like other local taco spots. *cough cough* El Taco Veloz. Second, you get free chips and salsa when you dine-in. And yes I may admit the tortilla chips are less than perfect, but damn it they are free. Thirdly, there are no attitudes here. The folks have been pleasant each time I've come by, and they have no problem adjusting dishes or making items not on the menu. Lastly, but the most important, the food is damn good. Found this great little place reviewed on yelp in my neighborhood! Friendly staff, clean, lots of seating and authentic Mexican food. Good salsa bar and Coca Cola from Mexico in the glass bottle to buy as well as fountain coca-cola products. We tried the tacos, enchiladas and taquitos. All very good. You place your order and pay at the back counter. While we dined in seems they get a lot of to go orders. The reason for only 4 stars, no beer, wine or liquor yet. Came in about 40 min before they closed on Thursday and the wait was about 12 min even with about 6 people ahead of us. Enough time for me to fix my salsa. I ordered the west coast burrito steak and it was great can't complain.(fries,steak,rice,beans,guac, salsa and a few other ingredients I'm probably missing.) Totally forgot BF order but I know it was good and he didn't have a problem with it. We literally sat in the car and smashed it. 2 orders 2 go with 2 large drinks was about 30$ with tip left. Very tasty. Seems to be family owned, is always wonderfully clean and I love all the fresh ingredients. The food is so specially homemade. The food is cooked fresh to order and the people here are extremely nice. There are also booths and tables to sit and eat; the menu consists of legit authentic Mexican entrees and I find that a lot of locals really do support it in the community. Don't get me wrong, it's not dirty or unclean...it just was kinda dark and old inside. The steak nachos were absolutely the best nachos I have ever had. I have been here several times for lunch (ordering in or doing take out). The front desk staff does change often, but they are all really friendly, and do a good job of answering questions for all the newbies that I bring in from work. I really like their tacos and variety of meat, ALWAYS try something different, you will always be happy for it. Certainly start with the Beef tongue, you can never go wrong with that. They serve it in a Torta (sandwich with tasty sauce meat and a veggies), or on a Taco. Chicken tacos are a bit dry, but that's the nature of the chicken, so make sure to add sauces or other veggies from their free salad bar. They always have interesting entrees and special displayed, you would be foolish not try that out. As far as entrees go, the Steak/chicken Milanese is just excellent. The meat is soooo tender because they beat the meat down. You get tortillas/lettuce/tomatoes/guac/sour-cream with it, so you make urself like 4-5 tortilla sandwiches and its fantastic! Great food & customer service! Loved the ambiance it's a traditional Mexican atmosphere with a upbeat energy. The condiments offered at the salsa bar is a great plus. It has everything from salsa, jalapeños, sautéed onions and limes. This is a custom I'm use to from Mexican restaurants back at home. However I found it not available at other establishments and often get a up charge for wanting extra condiments. The area is a food desert. Except for Taco Prado. I'm nearby, so I grab dinner on the way home 2-3 times per week. Here's why: - It's fast. I call when I'm on 20 crossing over 285 and it's usually ready when I arrive. - It's good. Lately, it's been a little more hit and miss than before. I don't see the original cooks in the kitchen as often. That's a shame. But when it's good, it's hella good. - It's cheap. Period. I notice they've had a lot of turnover lately. Young ladies who aren't trained or just don't get it. But they mean well. Unfortunately, it does bring the service down. I only order take-out. I do see a few folks dining in from time to time, but mostly everyone orders to-go. if they bring the sweet older ladies back in the kitchen more regularly, I'll tack on that last star. I love this place!! Authentic tacos and great price!! It's done the street from my house so I visit often. The only issue I have is when you call in an order, they place you on hold for 5 minutes or more. It's frustrating when your trying to place an order and have it ready for pick up by the time you get there. I think they forget there's a customer on hold lol read more
