Our favorite classic TexMex place in Huntsville. Service is always friendly and helpful. Food is…read moredelicious! Drink options are endless. We enjoy getting their fresh guacamole to go along with the complimentary chips and salsa. We also love the chori-shrimp dish. It's our go-to and a good portion for my husband and me to split. The shrimp are plump and plentiful. The cheese sauce on top is so good, and so are the beans and rice with it. I also really like their beef enchiladas. They have a homemade hot sauce that you can request, which we always do! They have fun events in the evenings, like trivia on Thursday nights. Check the out!

We've been to El Vaquero twice now to play trivia. While we enjoy the clean amenities and our…read moretrivia caller, both times, we've all been incredibly unhappy with our food. The restaurant is spacious and gets loud when there's a crowd. Thankfully, there's usually a place for our larger group (6 people) to be seated comfortably. Service is very nice but slow. Trivia runs for a little over an hour and both times our food has taken about 45 minutes to come out, despite our comparatively small orders. My friend who comes to trivia does like the food here (he always gets a beef chimichanga FWIW), but everyone else has now tried several different dishes and not once been satisfied or even just not unhappy. The one shining star has been the cheese dip. It really is pretty good cheese dip, lol. The first time I ordered the chipotle chicken, which is supposed to be chicken in a chipotle sauce. I was firstly surprised and disappointed to see these were small strips of chicken rather than a chicken breast. But that would've been okay...had the chipotle sauce been decent. It had no chipotle flavor and honestly mostly just tasted like sour cream. It was very weird. My parents have tried a beef burrito, beef taco, and chicken taco. They said the beef has an unpleasant metallic taste and the shredded chicken was, according to my dad, inedible. Most recently, my husband got a carne asada burrito and said it tasted so unpleasant he was concerned about whether he should even eat it. Fortunately, no ill effects came about as a result of it; he determined it was ultimately just very low quality meat with an unpleasant texture and taste. My father in law just doesn't order anything except a beer after coming for breakfast once and having a bad time there, too. On my most recent visit, I got a side of rice and beans to eat with chips and cheese dip. The rice had been cooked into sticky, mushy lumps and had no flavor. At this point, I have no idea what to order that might even come close to satisfying my palate. It's disappointing. We may be forced back due to circumstances like our availability in order for us to play our favorite game and have time together. If so, I'll continue to try different things until I can maybe someday find something that works. I want to like this place and wish I had the experience so many other reviewers have had.

This pretty much sums up our visit:…read more Me, getting into the car: wow, that was bad Husband, closing my door: yeah. We specifically came for margaritas during their social hour. $3 off a set list plus seasonals. There was a table card listing seasonal drinks. I specifically asked our waitress if the Christmas margarita was considered seasonal. She assured me it was, until we got our check and she said it wasn't. I'm not arguing over $6 but $26 for two watered down drinks was not a social hour deal. It's not a deal anywhere. My husband and I shared the three different empanadas gracing the social hour menu. The chicken was delicious, the beef was ok but the fish was fishy. So much so that I didn't even get to a second bite. We ordered chips, salsa and queso for the group. The chips were great - crisp and airy. The queso was good though unremarkable, the green salsa was great. The red was a tad hot for me but everyone else at the table disagreed with me. Husband and I shared the enchiladas verdes. Three chicken enchiladas were served with a plate of nearly tasteless rice. The enchiladas were dry. Even queso didn't help. I ate half of one and my husband didn't even want my second. We didn't take home the leftover enchilada. That pretty much sums them up - not even worthy of a to-go box. With tip, our check was $90. Way too much for such a mediocre meal. We just walked in the door. Hanging up our jackets, we agreed - we won't go back.

The owner at the front of the restaurant is polite and very helpful with menu selections. Food/Drink: I ordered a Jamaica (Hibiscus). It wasn't too sweet, and had the right amount of tartness. Compared to Tex Mex and Mexican restaurants in town, they provide a meager amount of chips, but they are freshly made with some homemade salsa. I didn't really have to worry about snacking on the chips because my food came out fairly quickly. I ordered some Mole Enchiladas and received some large portions. The chicken enchiladas were a little juicy, and the mole really enhanced the flavor. I loved the smokiness of the ancho falling through + the chocolate flavor. The cotija cheese and crema drizzled on top of the mole was good too. It had a tinge of sweetness, and paired well with the Jamaica. I recommend you try this place out!

It comes with three and a side of rice. Also got one green tamale. It was filled with chicken. I guess the red might be with pork. I'm not sure. The lady taking our order couldn't clarify the difference for us. We also got an order of chips and salsa. All of it was very good! The chicken was a bit dry, but the mole sauce was great. And we loved the homemade green and red hot sauces they provided in squirt bottles. The chips and salsa also tasted very fresh, but the amount of salsa was soooo small. It was comical. Would've loved more, especially for the upcharge of $2.99. We would definitely come back and try other options. They have a lot of items including various drinks (including cocktails and beers) and desserts. It felt very clean. Service was quick and friendly. Parking is tight. All in all, a nice meal!

Tried the garlic pan fried tilapia, it was very good and huge, I could barely finish it. Tried the cucumber lime fruit water and it was so dense with cucumber and lime and was very good, the lime created the perfect counter balance to the cucumber. The chocomilk shake was good as well as the beet/carrot juice. The beet carrot drink was juiced when we ordered it as well as the cucumber water, not premade. We left stuffed but also felt refreshed. Ingredients here are very fresh. It has never taken long for us to get our food the three times we have been here. Will be back to try more items.
