After spending some time in uptown Minneapolis, it was 8:30 pm and I needed to grab some dinner. I didn't feel like dining in anywhere, so I went with takeout. I wanted to hit a Taco John's. The closest one was this one in New Hope. I had never been to New Hope, so I was looking forward to it. This Taco John's is in a strip mall. It does not have a drive-thru. There was a lot of parking. I backed into a spot and walked in. This eatery has a ton of seating. It's huge. There were a handful of people waiting for their food. I walked up to the counter and had the nicest man take my order. I had been eyeing the meat and potatoes burrito for a while. I got it as a combo. I got potato olés as my side. My combo came with a fountain drink. I paid with a credit card. The transaction went smoothly. I got a cup and headed to the drinks area. I filled it with Diet Pepsi. Filling my cup up killed a bit of time, along with getting a straw and napkins. I probably waited for ten minutes at the most for my food. A woman called out order 8. My receipt said 208. I didn't know whether she was going with the last digit of the order number. So, I showed my receipt to her. She rattled the contents of the bag. Yep, it was my order and the place goes with the last digit of the order number. I thanked her and wished her a great evening. She reciprocated. Even the man who had taken my order also said goodnight. Such a nice touch. I headed to my car and drove back to the hotel. It was a clear evening and a nice drive. I chowed down when I got back to my room. I tore into my meat and potatoes burrito first. It had ground beef, potato olés, nacho cheese, sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes. I have never been big on sour cream, so I'll need to have that held next time. Luckily, there wasn't all that much of it in my burrito. It was a hearty, hefty, flavourful burrito. It was huge. I loved it. I love potato olés. Each one is so enjoyable to devour. It's like having a hybrid of mashed potatoes and tater tots. You get the best of crispy and creamy potatoes in each olé. So good! My Diet Pepsi was refreshing. It washed everything down and hit the spot. I had a great experience at this eatery. I'd return when I'm in the area. I can also say that I've finally been to New Hope. Taco John's are hard to come by, as far as their not being many and they're not usually too close to me. I GPS'd my way to this one. It wasnt too far, but it was out of the way for me. Service : Greeted instantly. The guy wasn't overly friendly, but he was professional. Fast and efficient. The manager even came around and asked if I had been assisted. Food: I ordered the Crunchy Chicken (my fav!) and the potatos (lil hashbrowns) and everything was made to order and made fresh! Ambiance: it was empty other than myself and the 1 guy who also ordered his food and we both ordered to go. The service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the Potatoes Ole were tasty (if a whopping 460 calories for a small order), but those were the only good things about my experience. Mainly, the food sucks! I went here twice, first time (last week) I got a taco...which was runny...ew! Second time (today) a chicken burrito which was drenched in some kind of cheese like cheese-whizz...yuck! Had enough and won't bother to return..... 1 point for the food... one extra point for the cleanliness and one extra point for the friendly service...total of 3 stars! Who drives from St. Paul to New Hope in the name of Taco Johns? This girl! If that isn't saying how good this place is (for a fast food restaurant), then I don't know how one could justify driving so far in the name of Fast Food, especially with all the perpetual road construction in the west metro. Highlights: -Super clean: I've seen clear gnarly Taco Johns in my day--this is not one of 'em. Even the bathrooms are nice! -Friendly staff: Yes, positive customer experiences can happen at fast food restaurants. I'm pretty sure the cashier I had the last two times recognized me (is that a good thing?) and had impeccable customer service skills (a rarity at fast food establishments!) -Potato Oles: Always FRESH and Delicious. If you've never had them stop reading now and go get some. Tasty Taco John's food. It's always been fresh and well made at this location! The people are always nice and courteous. The only downside is the clientele, I feel. Taco John's is so good that I whistle and sing over the almost immediate diarrhea it gives me. I've pretty much cut down on my greasy fast food intake over the past few years but this is one of those guilty pleasures that I just can't shake. My girlfriend and I drive 10-15 odd miles to this specific location in New Hope just about every week because it's the most accurate Taco John's I've experienced in the area. Anyone else know a good one that isn't downtown or 100 miles away? Forget about the ones in the Skyway - this one is the real deal. They have a beautiful wall-mounted flat-screen TV (typically with the Game Show Network or soccer on), its just a stone's throw from the Unique Thrift Store, and in my experience this location is boiling over with interesting sweatpants. The food is also far superior in my opinion - I've had some pretty limp taco shells in my Taco Bravos at the downtown locations - and the New Hope one seems to be a bit more generous with their taco fillings. The only negative I can think of is the "salsa bar". It doesn't seem to get much attention throughout the day but if nearly empty containers of lifeless pico and withered jalapenos are your deal then you'll be right at home here. P.S. Taco Johns is a WONDERFUL restaurant!!!!! It's only a few minutes away from my house and is affordable, delicious, and the staff actually cared about their customers. We ordered our food and it was delivered to our table in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!!!! The food was what we ordered, efficiently made, delivered at the same time, and tasted DELICIOUS!!!! Just stopped in to this neighborhood taco John's. Never have been here before I don't live anywhere near here but happened to be passing through today. And I always believe that great customer service never goes away in any job you always have to have great customer service to be a great worker and I have to say at this specific location, the people working today were great! I only get out to this Taco John's one or two times a month and I always drive to this specific location. The owner/manager is frequently on site and does a great job of training employees and showing them how to consistently have above average service and quality. I can't speak to the other Taco John's locations but this particular one is great and worth the trip. If you haven't been to Taco John's it's a step above Taco Bell but similar menu. read more

I didn't know there was a Taco Johns just a few miles from my home. I'd never been before and always hear great things about their food vs Taco Bell. So this was now on the list of the must tries! It was about 9:30 when we go there. 1 other customer was walking in at the same time. 3 people on staff. We placed our order which was 2 taco salads and a few tacos and the potato things. The 1 staff member making the food said something about the taco salads to the cashier - and the cashier said "I already rang it up so oh well". I didn't know what the cook said so we went on to get our sauces. We went to sit at the table to wait for our food but they hadnt been washed yet from the dinner rush - sticky and nasty. So We stood at the counter watching them make our food which looked delish ... until the 2nd taco salad was put together. It had no shell. They brought me the bags and I said "Is this all?" And the kind lady said "Yes". I said "Where is the other taco salad?". She said "Right here" pointing at the one with no shell. I said "That's not what I ordered". The other cook came out from back and said "I told him we didn't have any more shells." I said "Why am I paying for something I didn't get?". He went to the register, gave me back my $6, took the bag back and sent me on my way. Um - what? That was my dinner that I ordered. I don't expect to get anything free. I didn't want my money back. I would have expected they tell me they are out instead of serving me 1/2 my food and paying full price. I understand food pars ...I get at 9:30 at night you could be out of things - but then tell me you are out and offer me a solution instead of sending me on my way pissed off without everything I ordered. This was my first experience at Taco Johns and unfortunately because of the ridiculous service - it was my last. I always crave TJ's when I'm pregnant. This is the nearest location to home, but I rarely come here. The food is never a problem, but the service is always terrible. Today was the worst experience so far: I ordered two kids meals, and a taco combo meal. I ordered beef tacos with sour cream; I got two chicken with no sour cream. Last time I was here was almost 3 months ago and I swore I'd never come again. After today I will not be coming here again. When you spend $11 in a place like Taco John's you expect to be at least close to full I have over 10 years in the restaurant business. From general manager to open restaurants all over the country and a restaurant consultant. I wonder if they ever check their portions. Occasionally take out an ounce scale with staff and let them see what a half ounce of cheese and lettuce looks like.. What two ounces of meat looks like in their fingers or on a spoon etc... my soft shell had barely any lettuce or cheese inside, what is a mother's cheap as a filler as you can get in to increase what's called perceived value. My Super Burrito wasn't a Super Burrito they screwed it up and when I brought it back in they just took their own time remaking it while my other Foods in the car getting cold. This will be my last time eating here. I should have went over to the HyVee instead. Normally this place is great. The reason I'm giving them a 1 is not because I was missing food I paid for when I got home but because the manager had not contacted me about it when I called there. I understand food is missed, but when they only offer to replace the 2 missing tacos and not my $11 order when I have to go back there. Drive there. Rude. This taco place has the best tacos and fiesta potatoes ever! I especially enjoy their hot sauce bar where you can bring home little cups of sauce. I always get the green sauce. Every time I come in there the staff people are very nice professional accommodating and quick. The restaurant is always clean and I am always happy with my food. I don't normally like to eat fast food but this place is addicting. I love this place! read more

Went to this location for the first time today. The men working were helpful and polite, they went above and beyond. When another customer was going to dispose of her tray, one of the workers said "let me get that for you" and took care of it for her. We ate there at the restaurant and the workers even said goodbye and wished us a good day as we left. Great guys at this Taco John's! Also our tacos were made quickly, by the time we got our drinks they were done! And the tacos were delicious, and I'm picky about my Taco Johns :) They did a great job and deserve recognition! read more
