A rather unfriendly young lady took my order, and brought me my drinks in a reasonable time. The pisco sour was not particularly good, compared to others I have sampled in both Peru and Chile. The mineral water was fine. The food was okay, nothing exceptional, but real my complaint is that my waitress disappeared off the face of the earth. She did not even bother to check in with me about my food. And I wanted a beer to sip on, but I never saw her again. I had to go in the restaurant, flag down a different server, and he had to look for her in order to get my bill. I was not expecting much, but I was looking for a reasonable place to have some food and a couple of beers. Too bad Schopdog is not that place.

There's a lot of potential here if they could improve the patties. The toppings are very good and their fries are nearly perfect. Even the veggie burger is solid. I'd happily return any time and try another burger. Service is pretty basic. You'll be eating outside under a covered patio and find multiple uncleaned tables. That could be improved pretty easily. Staff is nice and speaks basic English.

It's a popular establishment here and what I can say is that the burger probably sits in the average category. It does not have the secret flavor touch of burgers from premium chains like Shake Shack or Five Guys. It is also far from some "gourmet" burger joints now found in many cities. I also can't even put it up to challenge some of the steakhouse burgers, but that's a different category. At the same time, it is an good quality meat and a decent bread. The bread was both too squishy and too squished. I enjoyed the burger here, but cannot say that there would be a reason to come back had I lived in Santiago. The sautéed onions seemed way too sweet for me on the burger, but someone else might like it, so can't critique on that. The good part is that there are draft cold beers to chase the burger down and again, some pretty decent fries topped with cheese. People were nice, although a bit disorganized as they didn't realize we ordered a beer until I went to inquire. If visiting the city, the spot can probably be skipped, but coming here is also not going to be a highly regrettable moment as it is overall a good meal.

However, I attended an event recently that was catered by Zócalo and the food and flavors were surprisingly delicious (read: spicy). I knew I needed to find the brick-and-mortar restaurant soon. Note for Americans: Don't come here expecting TexMex. There are no starter chips and salsa, fajitas, or queso dip. There is crema, spicy salsas, black beans, and soft and fluffy corn tortillas. We arrived midday on a Sunday and were happy to see that Zócalo, unlike other nearby restaurants, was actually open. Our server was great and brought us multiple pitchers of margaritas, and we shared the parrallada and some chips with guac and black beans. All told, it was less than $60k clp for all four of us. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday! The only downside was that as the restaurant saw more customers, or server was noticeably less attentive and forgetful. We did not get our waters as ordered or to-go salsa. Nonetheless, it was an excellent experience and we'll definitely be back. If you like Mexican cuisine and decor, give Zócalo a chance. The menu has something for every taste and budget.
