Wow. They have some great customer service. I have been in 3 times in the last 2 weeks and each time they go above and beyond. First I am a vegetarian and the owner let me know the different options I have when ordering my food. He also took the time to explain the differences on several items off of the menu. PS. I am new to the area and was keeping an eye out for local Chinese food and this one rated better than any around. Based on those reviews I decided to head in and sample the cuisine. I am a die hard sesame chicken and I always order this so that I can compare something across all restaurants I visit. I ordered the fried crab meat crepes and the chicken lo mein as well. Now, the sesame chicken was very good and had a nice crispy-ness to it. However, I was disappointed in the crab meat crepes and lo mein. I would say 2.5 stars but it's not allowed. The staff isn't very personable or nice unless you're spending a lot of money. Even with the carry out they are rude. The woman who answers the phone for carry out won't even let you finish and gets nasty. Luckily, their sushi is yummy. Otherwise they would get 1 star. Didn't get the sushi - probably was a mistake, based on other reviews on this site, but was mislead by the restaurant name into thinking it was a place to buy Chinese food. But none of the traditional Chinese dishes I bought as take-out were very good (ordered spicy beef with broccoli, General Tso's, shrimp with vegetables, two different soups). I lived in New York and traveled in Asia a lot for work. I have lived and worked in various spots in the U.S. not known for Chinese food. As such, I have experienced both good and bad Chinese food abroad, and have experienced a mixed bag with American restaurant Chinese food as well. Usually, if you order a variety, at least something is really good. Not so here on this one occasion. What might explain the difference between my experience and that of other reviewers who rave about the place? We went in late on a weeknight - according to the sign on the door, they were still open for 25 more minutes, but the hostess refused to serve us in the restaurant. She would accept takeout orders, however. I was there for the first time and only because it was a fundraiser, so I ordered for takeout so the nonprofit group would still get credit. Not friendly, not accommodating. Food not very good. Haven't gone back. Maybe this a good place to go at 6:30 p.m., but avoid Szechuan Cafe if it's getting late. And maybe don't order the Chinese food. read more

We used to come here a lot. Not anymore! The restaurant seems to think they were allowed to way price themselves out of the market - but the food is just he same. I love their sesame beef. But everything else is only passable.. Especially the soggy egg rolls. I much prefer Gourmet Asia and will even go to Beijing over what has become an old, washed over place read more

Okay food but Terrible customer service. It seems as if they were very accommodating, talkative and friendly only to their white customers on the day that I was there. I dont know the exact reason why. I dont know if they're racist of black people or just afraid of black people. You cant win them all. It was very disappointing to experience this. I had lunch with my Mother here yesterday. First problem, the waitress and manager lied about the heat. It was beyond cold in the restaurant. No one was seated by the windows and the male manager explained no one wanted to be seated by the windows because it was so cold. I'm sure the health department would love to know there was no heat. It's just like having no hot water. The business shouldn't have been open. I do agree that the food is good but you could compare some of the chef's choices that were averaged around $10. to a $4.95 roll. The waitress was very impersonable. Nothing to write with, when it came to filling out my sushi menu. The waitress didn't understand english very well. Never asked how I was, how the food was. My mother's food came out while I was still placing my order for sushi. They placed 3 glasses of water in front of me. My seaweed salad comes out and all I have is silverware. I had to go to the bar and ask for chopstix.The waitress seemed very irritated where I placed my plates, while showing my mom a photo on my phone. She was moving my plates around while I was eating my seaweed salad. My food comes out. I ordered 4 rolls, 4 orders of sashi and they place a marble sized piece of wasabi and ginger on my 15" x 15" plate of food, along with another plate. I felt like I had to argue for more ginger and wasabi. I should've kept my reciept because I know they charge extra for these items. As long as I've enjoys this japanese dish, I've never been given such a small amount. At this point, my feet were freezing. I ordered so much because I knew I would want to eat more, later, at home. I packaged what I wanted to take home within a 1/2 hr and continued a conversation with my mother. As I'm still eating, the waitress comes over and starts stacking plates, ontop of my plate with food that I was still eating. I actually had just take a bite of squid, as she did this. I was fuming. My Mother and I have always ate here, when I came to Pasadena to have lunch with her. We had a regular waitress, whom we loved and she would pull up a seat and see how we were doing. I am a bartender/server of 30 years in MD. This was horrible customer service. I shouldn't have tipped what I did. Wow! My search for good Chinese since moving here from Philly 11 years ago has finally ended! We went for dinner on Christmas and gave Szechuan Cafe a shot based on the mostly positive reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed! The appetizers were out of this world- both Chinese and sushi rolls were delish! For the entree, I had a special, chicken and shrimp and asparagus with a brown sauce. It was very good -the shrimp were succulent and perfectly cooked. My husband and daughter shared the orange chicken which knocked my socks off. Large chunks of white meat chicken cooked perfectly crisp but very tender. Lol, I'm getting that next time! The Chinese fried dough was a perfect little sweet treat to finish the meal. Service was also very very good even though it was crowded on Christmas night. Our waitress Michelle was prompt and attentive and did not forget anything. This restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night at 6:15. They must be doing something right. We were seated right away, practically on top of another table. Let's just say I could have easily taken my fork and helped myself to their meal. This is not private, romantic, or even required personal space dining. It reminded me of a cafeteria seating area. Our waiter was polite and kind, but obviously over whelmed. He brought the wrong wine, took our order and then proceeded to handle his other tables for 10min before he put our order in or got the correct wine, and ran around like crazy for our whole meal. We started with the steamed dumplings, which were okay. Typical, didn't look house made, and not even worth what I've already written. I had the Singapore Style Rice noodles. I thought they were bland, but cooked well and plenty of protein. My husband ordered a variety of sushi. The rice they use is excellent. The sushi went over really well. I will stick with the sushi next time we order from here....carryout of course. I'm not into community dining rooms. read more

I had the worst experience, the food is great, customer service sucks. I ordered sweet and sour chicken for my kids it came out with the sauce on it, I said my kids won't eat this with the sauce on it. They said sorry unless you request sauce on the side this is the way it comes, never offered to remake. I was upset and the manager came over and started yelling at me, my kids got scared and started to cry, he did not care, nor did he offer to remake, so while my party of 7 sat and ate my kids had nothing to eat and continued to cry. The owner continued to talk about me to other guest while I was still there. I have never been so upset in my life, we usually go there at least once a month and on Christmas, I will never step foot in there again. As a owner screaming at guest in your own restaurant, you should be ashamed of your behavior, especially when kids are involved. If anyone is to ever ask my opinion of this restaurant I will be honest and never recommend it like I have in the past. I sure hope he treats his empolyees better then his guest. To every guest in that restaurant, you the owner made yourself look like a complete jerk. My fiancé and I went here a couple of days ago. We have been looking for a decent sushi place relatively close and were told this place was great. When we arrived, the place was packed, but we were seated fairly quickly and ordered shortly thereafter. It took us approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to receive our order of sushi. At one point, our entire section of the restaurant was waiting on food. What was strange was that food was served to customers who arrived much later than other customers who were still waiting on their orders. I believe most people understood that the restaurant was busy. But, when the manager was informed of the situation, instead of understanding or offering some sort of explanation, he gave many customers excuses and chose to joke about the situation. Once we received our order, I will say that the sushi was very good to our taste. I do not fault the cooks nor the waitress for the poor experience we had. Rather, I fault poor management and lack of professionalism from the manager of the establishment. read more
