All the employees were so courteous and knowledgeable. The wait for my two kids and myself wasn't very long. The eye dr helped my son with a little dermatitis with his eyes and explained everything. The woman helping us with our glasses was so very nice. The kids and I had a great experience. I even got a free pair of sunglasses! I would recommend this place to all my family and friends.

So I signed up for it thinking this was going to be a good alternative to my regular eye Doctor who is more expensive. What a mess. After I developed a condition causing double vision, my ophthalmologist told me that the optometrist at America's Best did a really lousy job of putting a prism in my glasses to serve as a temporary fix. He said I should go back and have them do it again. And then after I had the surgery I brought in my new prescription and they FORGOT to put in the bifocal. Which may contribute to me needing to have this surgery done again. My eye surgeon didn't want my eyes to be strained without the bifocal and now I have to go another week without them because these people cannot do their job properly. Called and spoke to manager Ida. Told her that these lenses were made wrong, and I need them made correctly ASAP. She said I have to come in and be remeasured even though I provided and they do have the correct prescription from my surgeon. She said there was an upcharge for the bifocal, but she was waiving it. I said oh I'm not paying for anything. She said I should be grateful she's not charging me for the up charge for the bifocal & I need to watch my tone. I said I'm not the one yelling. She is. They made a mistake and should be happy to fix it. Not giving me attitude. Their mistake delays my healing, increases my eye strain & increases my chance to need this surgery done again. She said if I'm not happy they can just refund me, and I can go somewhere else for these lenses. She said I don't get to tell her how this works or what I will or won't pay for. To protect my eyes, I swallowed my pride and sat in silence like a good, little girl, and when I left saying nothing she and the other manager sang out a snarky "Have a nice day". Beware. I think I'll just start spending the extra money and going back to the eye doctor & staff I can trust.

They proceeded with the exam and having me pick up classes on Friday. Monday when I called to see what was going on, I got an answering machine. She finally called me back and told me that I wasn't covered to them and I owed almost $600. I canceled the glasses however it was still charged $110 for my free exam. . They knew it wasn't covered but did not tell me when I called and asked if they accepted my she said yes. When I got there, I was stood up to be taken. I feel I'm owed my money back. It went away in a few wks. I use my reading glasses much less, as the ones I have now aren't right anyway, but will be perhaps getting new reading glasses for very fine print. Other than that, I can see everything much clearer and brighter all around me. I don't have the blasting glare from sun in my eyes to drive during the day, and I think night driving will be ok too, I just haven't done that much of it yet. I went to the doctor here for a checkup 1 1/2 years ago, They found an issue with my lens and…read morereccommended my seeing a specialist. 2 opinions in Chicago later, they were absolutely right and I had surgery to repair the damage. 6 months ago I went in for another exam as my vision was getting blurry since the surgery and they found an enlarged artery (they have a much better name than that for it) and, of course, I got 2 opinions and am now getting monthly injections in my eye in Chicago. That's twice they literally saved my vision. On top of that, they are very professional choosing the right lens for me.

This is a challenging review for me to write, because I had expectations that were not met by Dr…read more Frey's practice. I came to realize over time, however, that my expectations were inappropriate. Dr. Frey does eye exams and sells glasses and contact lenses. That's it. He only does it three days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, regular business hours only. No evenings. No Saturday hours. If you need glasses or contacts, and you are available mid-week, this is probably fine for you. You're probably a senior citizen, and you like getting your business done on weekdays, when the crowds are less. Apparently Dr. Frey is the only optometrist on staff. I called on one of his business days when my elderly relative, a resident of Hobart, needed to see an eye doctor right away. The receptionist told me Dr. Frey had a family emergency, and there was no other doctor in the office. No criticism of taking time off for a family emergency; however, it showed that this business is a one-man show. There's no back-up for him. I called his office on another occasion, when a second elderly relative had an eye infection of some sort. I was referred to the hospital emergency room. Dr. Frey only does business by appointment, and does not make room in his schedule for an unexpected illness. You see, I had this idea, this crazy idea, that Dr. Frey was more than he wants to be. I thought he might be acting as a physician, and that he would see people who have eye problems, eye emergencies, and the like. I was wrong. He wants to do eye exams, and sell stuff. If he sees anyone who actually might have an ongoing disease process, he refers them to another practice. He's got himself a pretty sweet deal. I wish I could work three days a week and make enough to live a comfortable life. So, Dr. Frey is what he is. If you can manage your expectations, and think of him as no different than some retail optometry chain in the mall, but with really lousy business hours, you'll probably be fine. Just don't expect real medical care here.
