I wish that I could give zero stars. Here is the story how this bank and Sam's Club are AWFUL and ultimately crooks. My mother had a credit card with Sam's Club and that is ran through Synchrony Bank. She has cancelled her membership with Sam's Club and cancelled her credit card with Sam's Club FIVE TIMES in the last year! Sam's Club keeps charging a membership fee and charging the membership fee to the cancelled credit card, that transaction apparently opens the credit card back up. The bank continues to say that it's Sam's Clubs fault for charging the membership fee. And Sam's Club keeps saying it's the banks fault for all of it. Never use this bank for anything! They charge these fees even after your cards are cancelled to make sure the card is opened back up and accrues interest so they can get more money out of you without you realizing. read more

If you are looking for a bank that has easy access to your money and values you as a client Synchrony Bank is probably not a good choice. Bought a car on Monday and the dealership wanted to be paid by check. Monday initiated an external transfer to Chase so that I could write a check. Transaction failed due to daily limit restrictions. Initiated another transaction for the daily limit amount. On Tuesday the Monday transaction shows deducted from the account so initiated another external transfer for the remaining balance. All looked good - no errors Wednesday the remaining balance transfer does not appear so call Synchrony - speak to 2 different representatives and advised that until 1 transaction clears you cannot initiate another transaction. Thursday the initial transaction finally shows up at Chase. A week WOW. Everyone wants to wait a week for the partial amount. Synchrony...where was my money for 48 hours? Are you floating money? When I do an external transfer from Chase to Synchrony the money is always there the next business day which is what I would expect in 2026 as this is a well-established account on both sides. Because in good faith I cannot ask the dealership to wait for 2 weeks to take delivery on the vehicle I was forced to have to pay for a wire transfer. Perfect time to also close the account permanently. Issue resolved! The rep could have cared less. Surprised but not surprised. It is not 1930 Synchrony....do better! read more

Hmmm...I have several pay later loans through synchrony for Amazon. I ahev auto pay set up for each one. Almost every payment, I get "your payment is late" badgering phone calls, emails and texts...IT IS ON AUTOPAY YOU MORONS!!!! How is it my fault that you aren't taking the payments timely?? This past payment was due on November 1. I get notices on Nov. 2 and 3 saying the payment is past due. Look at my bank and the payment is processing. Synchrony Car Care card (originally great, and then...) Ripoff artists and lairs of the worst kind. We made the final payment, waited several days, then closed the account. They recorded that we had a dispute with them. We didn't. Our bank made an electronic payment, Synchrony accepted it. They tried to take the money twice (credited two payments on the statement), and then said that it was two failed payments. Then came the late fees, emails, phone calls, etc. All over a final payment of under $29. So we argued and argued with them on the phone, trying to get a straight answer. No one could give one. Then we asked, so how much to pay to just shut them up and end it all (maybe $200-$300?) TIME is valuable. They wouldn't say, opened another dispute (WTH?), which we didn't ask for. Now there's no way to look at the account. All because we think they're liars due to getting a different explanation every time we called to discuss what happened (four different agents on the phone in India). Go figure. We had to spend $7.00 to fax paperwork to prove that our credit union paid them. Now they say we have to wait up to 60 days for their decision on whether we owe them anything. Synchrony is currently in a class action lawsuit due to lying about amounts owed and for unfairly ruining peoples' credit. I hope they lose and have to close. Perhaps have customer support stateside, and hire people who actually know how to do things legally (should be able to afford it with the super high interest they charge). read more

NEGATIVE -10 I was charged after closing my PAYPAL SYNCHRONY account. I was told that since my account was closed they SYNCHRONY issued a new card and made a charge to that new card. THIS ALL HAPPENED THRU PAYPAL. I told them I never used that card and cut it up when it was received. First I owed $9.99, next notice i owed $21.00 then I was told to pay $7.99 . I was on the phone to them for over 1 hour while being transfered to 5 different people. I had it verified with PAYPAL THAT MY ACCOUNT WITH THEM WAS PAID IN FULL AT THE TIME I CLOSED IT. They are still harrassing me with email statements. I simply told them I would not pay for something I did not charge and they keep adding interest on interest. Isn't this illegal. This is not a complaint against customer service workers at this institution. This complaint is directed at the leadership at synchrony, including Bryan and everyone who works with him at that level (see their website for leadership). Their entire policy decisions are motivated by a for profit lending model. Their target audience is low income bad credit ppl, who have *literally no other alternative.* they market this lending as financially equitable "blah blah blah", so while it appears beneficial, it relies on exorbitant interest rates (mine was 32%) making it IMPOSSIBLE for the majority of consumers to meaningfully reduce their balances, and they will likely never be able to. This is a for profit institution. Simply, if they decreased their interest rates substantially to a more equitable/ reasonable level, they would still be making *substantial profits*. Which raises the question of, "is this greed?" "Do these policy makers know that their policies underlying motivation is *greed*". This goes well beyond "maximizing returns," this is essentially extortion and exploitation. And people should be aware of this. Do not use this bank for healthcare for u OR UR PET. It is a trap. Synchrony Bank is wrecking people's credit scores for no reason. I've never been late, never missed a payment, and yet they keep slashing my credit limit over and over. No warning. No explanation. Just boom your score drops. And when I pay my bill? It takes 2-4 weeks for the balance to become available again. What is that!? I called and they gave me the most ridiculous answers I've ever heard: "It takes time to clear" (even though the payment cleared two weeks ago) and "we randomly hold amounts." I had to go elsewhere to fix their mistake, racking up more bills and frustration. DO NOT GET USE ANY Synchrony Bank credit cards. They are steeped in predatory lender practices. I paid off my MasterCard balance in full before the due date. Therefore I regarded that bill paid in full with zero balance. However, they started calling me incessantly to pay an additional $6.37 with threat of added late fee. I assured them that was incorrect because I had already paid the balance in full. When I called customer service to have this charge removed and they informed me that they could/would not dismiss or remove this charge and that this was interest which had accrued since the last bill. This is ludicrous!!! I complained to regular customer service agent and escalated to collections manager. I discoursed the injustice, bad consumer service, and the bad faith with which they operated in and practices. I was over an hour trying to get remedied. however to NO AVAIL. They said this was in the terms of agreement when I signed up as they said this was added in 2024 revision of terms. Interestingly, there were no disclaimers, no emails informing me of pending/additional charges after I paid off the balance on my account and nothing online by payment options too address the egreious natue of these charges. I have a Sam's Club credit card. These people keep turning off my auto pay and then charging me $40 for a late fee. They also say that they won't take it off so I have to still check to make sure they didn't turn off my auto pay. it is slowly ruining my credit. I will be deactivating my card soon. read more

I just just found out, through a 3rd party credit monitoring service, that my credit card account had been closed. I was given any form of notice, I know this isn't required by law, what so ever. There was not email, no auto-generated letter, nothing. When I called to inquire about this action, I was politely informed I could reapply for another credit card. I hate this bank. I got a Care Credit card for an emergency extraction that I needed. I figured it would be better than my credit card. Which is true since they have a 0% financing option if paid in full within 24 months. None of that is the issue. You want to know how slimy this company is? I signed up for paperless statements since I am perfectly capable of utilizing the app to track purchases/etc. EVERY SINGLE MONTH I get an email stating that my preference is changed to paper statements and that they will charge $1.99 for said statement. I simply opened an account with Synchrony Bank years ago and hadn't looked at it for years and then when I decided I'm going to withdraw some money, I speak to people that appear to be on strong medication, and then transferred to the Philippines to speak to somebody who is slow and incoherent. I was told in order to get my money and close the account they said it would take 2 to 3 days for the back office to process it and then another 2 to 3 days for them to process a transfer. I get the feeling that this is not a real bank that this is somebody's retirement home and they do banking as a hobby next to watching TV and smoking pipes. Again, one of the worst horrific experience from what should be a modern bank in 2025. It felt like a time warp that I have gone back to the 40s to beg for my money. Awful company! Please stay away. Customer over 20 years and they locked my card for fraud and said I have to wait 7 to 10 business days to receive a letter with a code to unlock. Even after I confirmed charges were not fraud on their automated system. Account is paid in full every month and was treated like garbage by a customer service manager because I couldn't figure out how to complete the online biometric process. It takes forever for them to post your payment to your account. If you call them and ask them to verify, they claim that NO ONE at Synchrony can (read: will) send you any kind of verifications. Purportedly, it takes 72 h from the time they receive it for them to post it to your account. They claim it takes 10 days for a letter to get from PA to TX. Well, the postal service is bad, but it does NOT take 10 days for a letter to get from PA to TX, even when they had those ice storms. The only good part is the 4% you get back with purchases toward your Verizon bill. Since I am getting ready to part company with them as well, I can't wait to get rid of this card. read more

They took three weeks to notify me, and after reviewing my case, they admitted in writing that there was no reason for the closure and reopened the account. One month later, they closed it again without any explanation, and customer service could not provide a reason. We have had the fred meyers jewelers card thru syncrony for a couple of years now and did the promos and always paid it off early so we didnt pay interest. then we went and bought another item and have been paying on it every month and have to have it paid in full by december 2025. we have already paid it down $3200 and out of the blue we get online and shows our account is closed down with no credit left and we still owe the balance that is still not due for another year. Never been late with them and always paid them and now it is making our credit look horrible with an open balance on a closed account. I bought a dump trailer this spring and the dealership said they financing through 3rd parties that I could utilize for my loan. Without my knowing they signed me up for a credit card which when I received it in the mail I was extremely confused. Since then I have contacted customer service about the issue which they could care less that I was signed up for something I never asked for. I have never been able to access my account online as it says my info is incorrect. They often send my paper copy when the payment is due within a few days. Of course since I can't pay online I send my check and am being charged late fees because I have no chance to get my payment to them on time. I have talked to reps and they have never removed the late fees, I have over 800 credit rating- I don't make late payments. This company is a joke and full of a bunch of scam artists. In my lifetime they're up there with the worse companies I have had to deal with. Recently I found out I could pay online the phone since I had never received my paper statement.
