We arrived pretty early so it wasn't crowded at the entrance, and my friend mentioned it could be problematic when crowded, so we were extra cautious. The place wasn't too crowded yet so we were able to put our coats in the garderobe downstairs, grab a beer and pick a good place before everyone squeeze in. Picked a nice spot with a great view upstairs, it was a really good decision (concert-wise). About an hour later the concert started- the sound wasn't so amazing for the two warm up bands but the waiting time between each one wasn't too long so that's a good thing. A while after - Alt J came, I'll save you the details (amazing! Giving them a 100 stars) because it's not very relevant at the moment- and we tried to get down the stairs towards the ground level- disaster! So many people, with guards blocking the staircases and letting only a few people at a time to go downstairs, it took forever! And just when we thought we were done - don't forget there's another staircase for the coats, and if coming down from upstairs was hard... So getting our coats was twice as tough. This is a pretty small place and it took us about an hour to leave, it was not fun. At least the concert was worth it.

I looked in the window and motioned for someone to come to the door. The older male bartender with the military style hat opened the door. I asked if they were open and explained that the door was locked. He scolded me explaining that the door is always locked; chewed me out stating I should've rang the bell. The doorbell is on the wall opposite of the door and not clearly marked as the doorbell of the establishment. I apologized and said it was my first time there. I went inside and sat at the bar. This bartender was utterly disgusted by my existence the entire time I was there. Is it because I'm a Black Man? American? The younger slim bartender with a mustache was very nice & helpful. He made me an excellent old fashioned. I told him this was my second time in Berlin and I'm running the Berlin Marathon. We had a nice brief conversation about the marathon and runners, and he invited back to the bar after the marathon. After I finished my drink I sat there with an empty glass for at least 10 minutes with no staff acknowledging me. So finally I waved to the older bartender wearing the hat. He rolled his eyes & head at me and then walked over to me. I told him I was ready to pay, and I paid him. Before I left I shook the hand of the nice bartender and he said see you Sunday. This is my second time in Berlin and third time in Germany, and this is the worst I have ever been treated.

I had a Flammkuchen or tarte flambee, which is a kind of German pizza or flatbread. I had the Popeye, which was spinach and brie. The food was fine, but the best part of the experience was the outdoor seating area and the beer. Not a place I'd run back when I'm next in Berlin, but certainly not a bad meal!
