Now all women know that buying swimwear is awful. Especially if you're a D cup+ and want something to actually swim in. Like laps and stuff.
Which is what took me to Swimwear Galore on a chilly Sunday morning (thinking this would be mistake number one, I expected to be coming and going from the change rooms for hours, getting in and out of my multiple layers, in the end giving up and deciding to just walk laps in the pool wearing my "reserved for cocktails by the pool" bikini instead).
I was greeted with a cheery hello by normal looking women (read: not model types that have never had to buy anything bigger than a size 8, and that's on a bad day), which put me at ease immediately, and asked if I needed help. Which clearly I did.
I asked about the miracle suit, and explained I wanted something to swim laps in, but also to hold me in in all the right places, plus (please read in American radio voiceover) "instantly look 10 pounds lighter".
Oh, and I wanted it black, and to still look good!
I'm crap with names, so I can't remember the girl who helped me, but she grabbed a few miracle suits, and also talked me into trying a few others as well. I was asked if I wanted to try some swimwear specifically for chlorine, but they were pretty flimsy, so I passed.
THE FIRST ONE I TRIED WAS PERFECT! And clearly totally not what I was expecting! I also tried on the rest "just in case" and also fell in love with one of the suits that the staff remember had recommended, and a few of the others were spot on too. Now I don't have mountains of cash, and the plan is to lose weight, so I didn't buy the recommended one I fell in love with, but I'll be back to get it.
I feel swimwear should be more like a good pair of running shoes or a good bra, than just any old jacket or pair of jeans - get fitted properly (yes, they'll actually check it fits right), and you'll never rely on guessing from a discount rack at a department or surf store ever again!
Fun Fact - they sell all the extras like ear plugs, swimming caps, goggles etc, plus also have some super special cleaning stuff to really get the chlorine out. And you can shop online if you already know what you need! read more
