Little did I know, that choice would almost kale me and I love kale. Okay, that's an exaggeration. I like kale and the choice was okay. The food was fine and met my desire for a healthy choice, with a notable selection of toppings, sides, and bases. But the brocoli was the most flavorful part of my salad, which might tell you something about the rest of the meal and/or reflect exceptional, cutting-edge brocoli development happening at Sweetgreen. The employees were the most remarkable part of the experience though. They were pleasant and welcoming. And with that, I'm going to leave four stars and go get that hot chocolate I was craving. read more

The quality of the salad was not good. All veggies were OLD. Several yellow Spinach leaves, the rest soft and unfresh. Sweet potato slices were dry from age. I ordered this for lunch because I work in the area. While I love the sweet green salads, the only big complaint I have is the steep price. Also, most of the times I'm not full off of the salad itself. But it is definitely the healthier option in the area for fast food. I ordered the shroomami harvest bowl and Paris around $13 for it. It's usually my favorite because it has wild rice which makes it a bit more filling. It was delicious. I love the miso sesame dressing too. And the beers have a perfect crunch to it. Ive also had the fish taco bowl as well and I was a bit disappointed with the size of the roasted steelhead salmon. Just beware that your portion sizes may be very tiny. "I'll have to charge you extra if I give you more." I leaned in and pointed to the salad that had the least chicken and just asked that there be an amount equal to the others. "You're not allowed to lean over the counter like that or put your fingers over the food." "I was just pointing to MY Salad," I replied. "I'm just following the rules," she insisted. Sweetgreens was out of one of the ingredients, so she offered me a substitute. When I picked one, she said "I have to charge you extra for that one." "So charge me. I hope to never have you serve me again." "I'm leaving this job soon, because of people like you." Good . The sooner the better. I hope she gets fired. Many servers have come and gone, some of whom were wonderful, a few of whom I tipped voluntarily. This woman was the worst. The plus to sweetgreen is that they have plenty of topping options, but it can get costly if you get over the 4 allotted items. I enjoyed my salad, especially the cilantro lime vinaigrette. This was probably my favorite part of the meal. The downside to my experience was the rushed customer service by the counter staff. I understand that lunch hours are typically busy, but sheesh give me a second to look at the topping items before I make my selection. It seems that this place just wants to get people in and get people out, which is where the quality of service is diminished. Most of the dressings are delicious - curry yogurt, miso, cucumber tahini, balsamic vinegar (not the vinegrette - I like the vinegar haha). The lime squeeze is literally just a half of a lime that they put in your salad, lol. I tried the Spicy Sabzi yesterday too and that was also amazing - loved the textures of the sprouts against the other stuff. The chicken is also sooo flavorful. My only gripes are: online ordering - you only get to make a limited number of modifications to your salad, and they make mistakes on your order from time - but the company itself is amazing at apologizing and then giving you credit for their mistakes. I do not understand why the workers at this store have a giant problem when it comes to actually filling up the bowl with food. Its always underfilled. The person behind the register basically underfilled my box even after I kindly asked for some extra chicken--he literally put one small chicken piece after I asked, which was literally a F-U to me. I understand the attitude and everything and I know it isnt easy being a service worker but I dont think that justifies them under filling the bowls. Furthermore, the salad that was already under filled, basically gave me food poisoning. I threw up after 30 minutes post eating and I don't think I ever want a sweetgreen salad again. This wasn't my first time at a sweetgreen but this was my first time at this location. The shop itself it's cute and clean but the lines were pretty long and crowded. I came here for take out in the afternoon on a Monday so maybe it was rush hour. The salads I can say at sweetgreen are fresh and tasty no doubt but once you start building and adding to your greens it gets pretty pricey. They have vegan bowls and most of their warm bowls are around 500-700 calories. I love that they have a lot of ingredients to choose from beets, apples , chickpeas and even toasted almonds. The size of the bowls are a great portions in terms of filling you up but it may not seem reasonable for the price you're paying. I would say if you're in the area definitely try their salads they are yummy or check if they have another location near you. read more

Now to some, where your food is sourced from may not be important and may appear to be upper east side mom elitism at its best. My answer to that is Hell Yes!! I want to know where my family's food is coming from! Back to the salads! We had: Chicken Kale Caesar Salad - Delicious! Apple Cheddar Kale Salad - Delicious! The multi grain bread included with the salads was terrific. They also have a wide array of healthy beverages - iced teas and lemonades. There is a small seating area but be warned, this place gets super busy at lunchtime due to all the hospitals in walking distance. I have never had a problem with this location. I normally order only and then pick up - it's always been ready and accurate. The times I have stood in line, it's usually during a rush of people so the line is often long but the staff do the best to keep it moving. And by best, I mean sometimes they don't measure what they put in and just throw in large amounts of the items, to my benefit! Finally went to Sweetgreen since everyone seems to pick up food from here for lunch. This was a few days ago and I am still in utter shock that they market themselves as fresh and healthy and under ___ calories when all that means is that you are getting leaves for $16.00. I got the warm bowl with the most number of calories (700) and still left hungry. I also started choking on the bread and asked for a cup for water and the worker told me that they did not have any cups, so I just sat back down and continued choking. If you are in the area, go to Dig or Little Beet or York Grill instead for lunch. Similar fresh vibes for way more food and less money. read more

The locations is much smaller than the other sweetgreen location I usually go to on the upper west side. At this location there is much less room for seating. If you never have been to sweetgreen take a trip, it's very much worth it. My favorite salad is the kale Cesar under 10 dollars it will fill you up and not make you feel bloated. It comes with fresh chicken and amazing bites called Parmesan crisps that they add in. If you love cheese you will fall in love. Not to mention plump juicy tomatoes!They have a ton of more signature salads to choose from that all look amazing. For $3 you can enjoy some of there really amazing tea drinks(unlimited refills woot woot). Or if your not into tea just ask for a water cup... Water is FREE. The thing you should know is if you ARE NOT PLANNING ON EATING THE SALAD WITHIN THE HOUR LET THEM KNOW. They can place the salad in a way that things don't get soggy... they won't mix it etc. It will stay fresh that way. I really enjoy the salads because, yes while there a little bit on the pricey side the quality is there, freshness is out in the open as you see workers prep through the glass. The staff at this location is so efficient and friendly. DON'T BE deterred by the long lines they move quickly. Important things to remember: 1. Cash and credit accepted 2. Small location limited seating 3. If you don't plan on eating it right away separate it. 4. Always ask for the extra side of dressing to dip the yummy bread they give you. 5. Ugh really annoyed. I usually have a good experience when ordering sweetgreen but this past time was horrible. I ordered my earth bowl salad (like usual) for pick up at the nearest sweetgreen. I went and picked it up and everything went smoothly until I got home to eat it. When I got home I opened up my salad, added my dressing, closed it back up and mixed it. I began to start eating it when all of a sudden I bit down on something hard. Let me add very hard where I thought I might break a tooth. I examined what I had just bit down on and it was a piece of quinoa. I figured oh well it must just be one piece of hard quinoa but no I was wrong. All the quinoa in my entire salad was hard and not cooked. The uncooked quinoa was so hard that when I took another bite I was afraid my tooth was going to break. At this point, I was already back at my apartment and it was past 8:30 PM so I was not going to walk back to sweetgreen to complain. I ended up having to throw the whole salad away and had no dinner. This experience was not only annoying but dangerous and I am glad that I didn't chip a tooth eating that uncooked quinoa. What a waste! read more

My review on sweetgreen is mostly based on my comparisons to Cava, Just Salad, and Chopt. All of these new spots have been popping up and gaining a lot of popularity. They are all perfect for refreshing lunches during work hours. And for the most part, they are all extremely similar. Nothing out of the ordinary makes any of these health-conscious fast food restaurants stand out from the rest. Nevertheless, they all have different brand names, and therefore different reputations. In my experience, sweetgreen is known to be a popular place for millennial girls who like to spin and yoga in NYC. That honestly has kept me away from this place for a while. Places like chopt and just salad are purely the same thing, and sometimes I get these mixed up and call them "just chopt". In all honesty, based on my experience at sweetgreen, you can add this place to that "just chopt" mix as well. They are all the same! They offer the same type of lunch with a very similar customer experience: super long lines of office workers trying to get a quick bite. Based on this review, my conclusion on sweetgreen is that it is falls into a newly created homogenous category of fast food, and when i'm in the mood for that type of food, I couldn't care less if it's sweet chopt or just green. read more

However, the past 4 times that I have ordered my salads here, I have had to wait at least 30 minutes after my scheduled pick up. Today, the mushrooms weren't ready. Last time, it took the staff 30 minutes to replenish the arugula. I am downgrading this particular location because I didn't get one apology thus far. Still, I love the salads at this business, but the timeliness of service is severely lacking.
