I've been to Sweet Touch a bunch of times and the food is always amazing. But today I went and while waiting for my order to be prepared, I saw the man in the back making my sandwich, not wearing gloves. Just burying his bare human hands into the bin of lettuce, pulling it out, and sprinkling it with his bare human hands on my wrap. And then again with the tomatoes, and the onions, and then peeling apart the cheese, I repeat, all with his bare, fleshy, uncovered human hands. Sweet Touch, this is frankly disgusting, and definitely against health code. Needless to say I ate the sandwich anyway, because their sandwiches are amazing. But I did feel really bad about it for a few minutes and had to think about a lot of other stuff while eating to get my mind to stop thinking about those gloveless bare human hands. Forget the upscale fame of better known, well-situated breakfast and lunch spots. This is where the real people eat. I've recently gained four pounds (thanks to the generous portions in the East Cambridge neighborhood) so I need to take a break, but when I lose my new flabby midsection, I'm returning to this neighborhood charmer. When you go into the Sweet Touch, you are met with a homey, welcoming environment that clearly hasn't seen too many changes in terms of decor. Great photos of Greece on the wall. Ignore the muffin crumbs on the floor and go up to the counter where you place your order. The menu is right above your head but they'll customize anything for you. Once they do, they know you and anticipate your order when you walk in. Very nice. I don't eat meat or dairy so at first the menu looked unfriendly, but they have whipped up the best grilled veggie wraps for me. I get lettuce and tomato, too. Loaded with goodness, this monster sized wrap keeps my stomach pleasantly warm, happy and healthy for hours. No snack cravings in the afternoon. They offer the usual pancakes, omelets, eggs over easy, hot and cold sandwiches and wraps, salads and so on. Nothing fancy- all familiar. It's delightfully affordable, especially when you consider the portions. This is a small, family run business. The people who are behind the counter could not be nicer. I hope to see them all again soon, but not until I do some major work out sessions. read more

I love Sweet Touch! I work in the direct area and the closest Starbucks is in the mall, Petsi Pie moved much further down Cambridge Street, and Dunkins is, well Dunkins. I like Sweet Touch because they are family run and very friendly! They know my order by heart, so I never have to say a word, other than yes! Their muffins are freshly baked and really good! Also they accept cards without a minimum balance due which is great since their prices are super low, and I never have cash. The hunger was killing me and so in order to pass the time before I head out to India, we decided to eat. The usual. I chose Sweet Touch Cafe because it had some pretty great reviews, although, I wouldn't go as far as to say this place is spectacular. I thought I would be greeted with a warm smile and a menu, except I come to find out this place requires you to order at the counter. It's fine, except the menu is quite large! Lots of options to chose from and so, it took me some time to figure out what I wanted. When I finally decided, I blurted out "wheat bagel with egg and cheese." Simple. The food was prepared quickly, which was perfect. When I took my first bite of this breakfast sandwich, I thought it would be flavorful. It wasn't. So I had to add some salt, pepper, and tabasco sauce to it. However, its never quite the same when the eggs are already prepared with spices. My friend got the Mexican Burrito which she loved and devoured. As for my dad, he ordered the #2: toast, scrambled eggs, and home fries. This place is quick, affordable, and simple. Sweet Touch Cafe has become a regular Saturday morning spot for me any time I'm in Boston. This cozy, corner breakfast and lunch place is almost always packed. My boyfriend and I stroll over and get our day started with coffee and the absolutely delicious bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant. The croissants are light and flaky, buttery and delicious. I love this place! I stop in on my way to the T in the morning to get a bagel and a large tea. They always give me two teabags, well done there. The bagel has plenty of cream cheese and that warm kind of greasiness of being right off the grill. AMAZING. I love that when I come at about 8:45 it takes me less than five minutes from walking in the door to walking out with my bagel. Thats great service at that time of day. This placed changed my perception of what a breakfast sandwich is all about. First sight, I stepped in and shrugged not really knowing what to think. Then, I was politely greeted by a friendly woman at the counter. She took the time to make sure I knew what I wanted and made sure I knew what I was getting myself into. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into until, I was half through the most delicious, perfectly balanced salty and fatty goodness that was the bacon egg and cheese. I could't understand how something so simple, tasted so damn good. I opened the sandwich a few times to make sure there wasn't some kind of amazing, secret ingredient tucked away. A really great place to grab lunch if you work in the area. The portions are big - last time I came I ordered a grilled chicken wrap and couldn't get close to finishing it. This is a great place to get your omelets to go and eat in the park. We got some greek omelets, homefries, and toast. It was huge! I eat a lot for breakfast, so the fact that I couldn't finish it says something. The omelet lacked some spice, but the ingredients were fresh and it was definitely decent. Great service. This place has a sort of creepy name, but don't let it scare you away...the food is awesome! It's diner-style, nothing fancy, but really tasty. I had the croissant French toast (yes, you read that right, French toast made out of croissants!) which was as good as it sounds. Love this place. We own a business just down the street so Sweet Touch is our Sunday morning ritual. Unfortunately they are only open until 1 on Sundays so when we open our shop at noon the first thing we do is run down to get our food. My husband LOVES the Western Egg sandwich. I usually get the bagel with cream cheese. I know pretty boring but not only would I rather support the local business, but it is MUCH less expensive than Finagle that is down the street. I would suggest buying a breakfast sandwich from Sweet Touch and one from Finagle. Not only will you be paying more for the one from Finagle but it will be half the size and taste very bland compared to Sweet Touch!!! read more

I lived in the area couple years ago and I've always remembered the little homy breakfast place at street corner where I and my friends used to get huge, savory omelettes and pancakes on weekends in the chilly winter. Now back to the city, I was pleasantly surprised that this place is still going strong and the omelette tastes the same as I remember. Fast, easy brunch. All the things you love about a greasy spoon minus a lot of the artery clogging grease. You order your food at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. It's not a large or overly decorated space but was still very accommodating to my friends with a baby and stroller. I had eggs, french toast and homefries. I stopped by here today on my lunch break, and I have no complaints. Had a nice cup of coffee and breakfast (for lunch), and it was pleasant (odd choice of adjective, I know). I'd also like to add that this business is an excellent example of how it seriously doesn't hurt a restaurant to remain simple and stick to their original roots- both in menu and atmosphere. That's the type of place I like to grab my breakfast. Not some fancy Euro trash "French" cafe or new crazy pancake combination bastard breakfast spot. Simple, concise, and to the point. Decent omelette and homefries, especially appreciated that neither were too greasy, though the omelette could have used more ingredients (specifically, more feta in the Greek omelette). Sweet Touch falls short of 4 or 5 stars however due to the cleanliness - or lack thereof - of the cafe. Some regular cleaning to keep the massive cobwebs out of the corners and walls (right next to where we were sitting) would go a long way. It doesn't appear that the decorations mounted on the walls have been dusted in years, if ever. As it is the place feels more like a dive diner, with its duct-taped padded benches in the booths, and less like a nice local cafe which I am looking for as a local resident of East Cambridge. Food is excellent. Be sure to specify what kind of cheese you want unless you like 'american'. Don't be scared if it looks too crowded in the morning- a lot of the 745am crowd is takeout.
