I'm surprised by a few of the negative reviews because I've had nothing but super friendly, competent, and good work experiences with Sweet Pea, and I think the pricing is fair. One thing I really appreciated was how knowledgeable they are. My parents owned this property before I did and while I tried to learn the history of things when we bought it, we ran out of time before we got to the septic tank. Last year, when we were having some issues, Michelle was super patient and knowledgeable with us: explaining the common issues with our particular septic tank and it's baffle wall, she also knew the entire history of everything (clearing roots, draining, dates and details of any work that had ever been done)... she didn't make assumptions and definitely wasn't trying to upsell me services we didn't need... and over the years, anytime I've called them in an urgent situation, they find a way to get a tech out to our house ASAP. Lastly, the technicians they sent out have always been friendly, great, competent, and professional. I want to share my experiences with this company as a warning to others. I purchased a home in the jackson area several years ago and one requirement from the bank was a septic inspection. Sweet pea was hired to do this, performed the inspection and recommended a repair. They said the sewer line was back graded and needed to be fixed. They seller agreed and they did the work. We purchased the home and within a month started having back ups. I am a plumber by trade, so I hydro jetted the line and cleared the blockage. This happened monthly for the next few years. Completely frustrated, I decided to have the septic tank pumped again, thinking that maybe it was just due. I called sweet pea and they came out and pumped the tank. I explained to the guy pumping the tank the problems I was having, and he informed me that the sewer line was pushed in too far and was against the baffle of the tank, and that's why I was backing up constantly. I informed him that they just did a repair on this a few years back, and no one has touched it since. He cut the pipe back and said he would talk to his boss about the bill and get back to me. A week went by and then a lady called asking about the bill. I explained to her what I learned, and told her I didn't feel like I owed them any money due to the fact that their repair was bad. She threatened to send me the collections, and I told her to have the owner call me. He called me a few days later asking me why I felt like I should have to pay the bill. I explained to him again that his technician told me that the pipe was shoved in too far, causing everything to back up against the baffle and they were the ones who did the work. He agreed and apologized and few days later after verifying what I said. Fast-forward to yesterday, I called to have my septic tank pump and learned that I was put on a do not service list for non payment. Unreal! I tried to explain this to the lady, and thought this this may be a misunderstanding. Her response was " if that's the experience you had with us, then why would you use us again"? Anyways, I called someone else and got it pumped. I guess this company is mad at me because their tech admitted their mistakes and I called them out on it. Very childish!!! read more

Honest and friendly, they treated me like family. The owner went to my property and was able to get my system running temporary 2 days before Christmas at no charge, and would be back on Tuesday to make the necessary repairs. This is the second time I have used them and would recommend them to everyone. The first time they had to fix what another local company replaced, and used the wrong parts. read more

I have used this service for years . This time I called them asking them to come out and service us the women on the phone told me we did not need service . I said we did she got more aggressive and said we needed a plumber . So I called a plumber he came out checked the lines opened the septic tank lids and showed us how full our septic was . So again I called sweet pea while the plumber was her she told me the plumber did not know what he was doing we did not need service. So I put him on the phone with her she was extremely rude to him . He nicely explained what he was looking at directly in our septic . She said they could not come out for weeks. Thank goodness the plumber called a septic serve that could come out that day and yes my system was full . I highly recommend Alex from steve Garrison plumbing . But not sweet pea. read more

I am very disappointed in Sweet Pea. I called two weeks ago because the pipe in the leechfield was broken and only required a coupler and a lid. The lady who answers the phone told me it would be $250. When I was charged $360, I asked why. She explained that just for the tech to come out to my house was $240 (???) and that they charged another $120 for the repair, itself. The tech used a coupler and a lid and was here less than 10 minutes. I feel Sweet Pea is very deceptive and charged way too much for a coupler, a cap and 10 minutes of ​labor. The lady stated several times that she told me and that people often misunderstand. Well, if they often misunderstand, maybe her delivery needs to be improved and she needs to ensure people understand. I feel completely ripped off. I highly recommend using another company that can communicate better than this company. I, personally, will never use them again. read more

We had Sweet Pea out to empty the septic as we couldn't remember how long it had been. They were pleasant when I called, and explained their records indicated that they would have contacted us in a few months to schedule at the 5 year mark - reassuring to know we won't accidentally let it go too long! We went ahead and they were able to schedule someone out soon to take care of it for us. While the service person was out here, he looked over the initial home inspection we'd had them do before we bought the property, and he asked if we had addressed some repair issues they had identified at the time (I had no recollection of these issues!) Thankfully, he brought them to my attention and showed me the problems so I could understand what was needed, and I was able to schedule a repair technician to come out the next week. Unfortunately there was a slight mix-up when he came the first time with a wrong part so could only do half of the needed repair, but he was back in a matter of days and fixed everything up for us (and of course they waived the service fee when having to come back the second time). Great customer service, really appreciate the proactive bringing to our attention that we had outstanding repairs to take care of, and the 4 people I interacted with (2 service, 2 office) were all very professional and a pleasure to work with. We will call them again next time (if they don't call us first)! read more

Sweet Pea does it again. Our septic tank alarm was going off. I contacted our home warranty company. What a headache. I informed them that I had always used Sweet Pea for all my septic tank issues. They told me Sweet Pea was not on their list of "approved vendors." So they sent out a general purpose plumber from Angels Camp. He told me up front he knew nothing about septic systems and he didn't know why they sent him. He did nothing. He I'm sure was happy to collect $200 from them however. They then tried to send out a company from Modesto. The refused saying it was too far away. The warranty company tried to send them out 3 more times. I told them to just send Sweet Pea and reimburse me. Finally after 5 days of haggling with them and no septic, I finally got permission to call Sweet Pea owner Steve was out the next business day and diagnosed the problem (broken pump). He returned that afternoon and installed a new one. I could not be more happy with the service. I Just wish I didn't have to jump through all the hoops from the warranty company to get done what I wanted to do in the first place. read more

Update below: Hmmm...so we had our septic tank pumped and serviced about four months ago. We decided to sell our house and during the inspection, the tech broke/cracked the intake pipe. When we mentioned something about this, first Sweet Pea said that it was like that before they dug. When this was questioned, then they said that they will fix it for free but then that the inlet pipe does not have enough fall and needs to be excavated and reinstalled/graded at the cost of over $900. This was never mentioned until after we found that they broke something. So now, I don't know how much is truth and how much is them trying to find a way to charge me extra money for something they broke in the first place. I understand this is a tough economy, but this whole deal seems very shady. Update: Finally spoke with the owner. He explained things a bit more, but I still feel like I am being taken advantage of. We shall see how the repairs go... Update: They did the "repair". I guess it works better now, but have not noticed any difference. Be careful with them. read more

I needed my septic tank replaced. Sweet Pea came out timely, gave me a good quote and placed me on their list. An earlier opening came up and they contacted me to schedule the replacement. They replaced the tank, graded the area (looks much better than before!!) and the quote was right on! Professional, timely and everyone friendly from the on-site personnel to the contact staff! Not only was Sweet Pea unable to do anything to fit me in to their schedule. If you need your tank pumped and don't schedule it way in advance don't even bother to call Sweet Pea. The lady that answers the phone is very rude and could care less about helping you. She seems like she is doing you a favor just by speaking with you. Sweet Pea got it right! I was in escrow on a foreclosure property where the home sat vacant for 4 years. Before that, the owners never pumped their septic tank, so we really didn't know what we were getting into.We did know that it had a special system that wasn't functioning properly (duh). We first hired Foothill Sanitary who told us that we needed an entirely new septic system, tank and all! So then we called Sweet Pea for a second opinion. Sweet Pea's technician was prompt, courteous and got everything working like it should in no time! And lets face it, this is no sweet smelling job! Thanks Sweet Pea! Just a few months ago, I had them pumped the septic tank and all was well. However, when I called the place to get septic inspection for my house, I found out that he unnecessarily pumped the septic tank again(the pump is recommended to do it every 3-5 yrs). Moreover, we found out that they damaged the pipe while they performed the inspection and making us pay for it by giving a false report on the pipe! It feels very dishonest the way they run their business and i will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

A couple weeks ago, I discovered that effluent was flowing out of the outside clean-out cap. I opened the cap but the snake seemed to go all the way down into the tank, but no flow. I opened the distribution box (D-box) to inspect that end. No backup into the leach lines (3) and light flow from the tank. Ran power snake from D-box back up to the tank and found no obstruction on that side either. I stopped by Sweet Pea and talked with owner Dean who was very helpful speculating what to do next. The indicated course was to dig up the inspection covers on the tank, but I didn't know exactly were they were. The ground was hard from all summer and digging was going no were by hand. I called Sweet Pea's office per Dean's suggestion to see if they had detail of the tank's location which they had pumped just before we took position of the property. They looked up their records and told me what they had, which was old and skimpy. I decided it was cost effective to have them come out and help. They showed up with a back how tracker and video camera snake. The video snake had a tracing pig, which quickly located the end of the waste line at the inspection cover. After marking that and probing a little more,it was easy to determine the lay of the take and the second cover. Driving the tractor to the back, the operator was easily able to dig the covers clear and open them for inspection. He brought a long 'V' pipe probe which he used to loosen the plug at the tank input baffle. He declared that the tank was back in service if I wanted to use it from there, but without pressure, I asked a few more questions and knowing the tank had not been pumped in 14 years decided it would be more cost effective to pump it while it was open so I wouldn't have to reopen it again. There tank/pump truck was there in a reasonable time and in short order the tank was empty. I agreed to refill the dirt and they gave me some slack on the bill. I needed a replacement D-box cover to replace the deteriorated one I uncovered. They had one on the truck and handed it to me, but then added $25 on the bill for a small flat cement cover that should have been $15 from another source I checked later. Otherwise, I got a fair price for all they did that took just under 3 hours and the guys that performed the services were nice and helpful. They don't take AX, just Visa & MC. read more

The septic system at my house has had one problem after the other. Originally I used a different company, the one that did the original "septic inspection" when I bought the house as they seemed familiar with my system. After thousands and thousands of dollars spent, the tank continues to have problems. Last winter I noticed the pump was going off every 10 minutes and called the other company. They sent out a "tech" (who had been with them for a couple of months), and he said there was nothing he could do ($135 service call). I would have to wait for dry weather. I spoke with some of the other folks at that company that I had worked with in the past and they were so rude that they lost a long time customer. Lucky for me because I then called Sweet Pea and they came right out and tried to diagnose the problem. What looked to be a leaking riser was repaired. This year, we are having record rains and my tank is doing the same thing. Steve from Sweet Pea came right out, fitting me in to his very busy schedule, pumped the tank and took the time to see what the real problem was. Ground water was leaking into the tank from an inlet pipe. The next day they came back out and tried everything to repair what ended up being a cracked tank (how did that not get spotted in the original tank inspection?) . Sweet Pea also discovered that the tank (that was supposedly 10 years old) was in fact, 20-30 years old. The repair was almost impossible as the tank was not installed properly and there was little access to the leaking pipe. The repair did not hold and it was clear that I needed a new tank. My tank was taking in ground water and the pump was running 10 times an hour. Not good. I was a stress ball thinking "oh great, my pump is going to burn out and then I'm going to have a bigger mess". The rainy season is not the optimal time to put in a new tank but Sweet Pea made it happen. They went above and beyond to solve my problem at a crazy busy time due to the heavy rains. There were some challenges with the install and they handled it like the pros that they are. They didn't use the old "oh, this is going to cost you more" like the other guys. I now have the peace of mind knowing things are installed right and should I have any issues, Sweet Pea will back their work. I am grateful for their hard work, patience and professionalism. When I called Sweet Pea not only did they return my call but, they were able to get someone out to my property the same day!
