I didn't want to resort to a negative review here, but Swan really let me down. We spent almost $100k with them on a new pool, hardscaping and built in BBQ. The pool itself turned out fine but the concrete hardscaping has been a disaster. The concrete decking had some very bad discoloration. It also developed large chips leaving divots on my decking throughout. I tried for over a year to get them to correct this. They came out with their Sub and tried to do some vinegar washes on the concrete but that just made it look worse. I've had multiple contractors look at it and tell me definitely this was a bad mix ... And pour. ---- update as of 8/15/16 Swan is working with me to correct the concrete issues. We contacted Swan Pools after an extensive search for a reliable pool company. Our initial contact was with designer Domie Q. who came to our home and explained to us in detail the requirements of building an inground pool. Domie is an extremely creative designer and his attention to detail made it very easy for us to visualize/decide what we wanted in a pool. The assigned project managers were Andy, Mike and later in the project Juan joined the PM group. During the entire project, one of these PMs were always on site or were just a phone call away making sure everything was completed timely and to our satisfaction. The whole process was painless, but as with any big constructions you are bound to encounter minor hiccups along the way. The pool construction went well, but the minor hiccups had to do with miscommunication and a faulty pool equipment. Now, let me clarify...the miscommunication rooted from having two PMs assigned to one project and both trying to ensure that 'we' the customers were satisfied. Another great team member is Annie, she helped us with the pool aesthetics. She was extremely patient and helpful, she assisted us with the material selection (tile, grout, plaster, and most importantly with the color coordination etc.). Debbie is the office manager and she was great coordinating and scheduling the subcontractors and keeping us updated with the timelines. The final result is a beautiful pool that my entire family is enjoying and will continue to enjoy for many summers to come!!! We heard about Swan Pools from neighbors who had contracted with them, including a neighbor two doors down who had their entire backyard remodeled along with a pool. Domie worked with my wife on the design at the end of last year. We decided to go with Swan based on the quality of their work, added features they offered at substantial discounts (salt system, variable speed pump), and the fact that they are a reputable company with a long track record. We put our deposit down just before the end of the year. Swan began by engineering and pulling permits. We were also introduced to Sal, our project manager. Sal scheduled all of the steps involved in the construction. He was always available by phone or text and always responded in a timely, friendly and professional manner. We broke ground on February 22, 2018. Through plumbing, electrical, equipment installation, rebar, gunite, masonry/tile, coping, plastering and testing, Sal was a text or phone call away and very attentive. Whenever we had a question or concern (there were a few), Sal handled our request promptly and courteously. About three months later, on May 13th, our kids jumped in and were first to swim. We are very satisfied with Swan's workmanship, and very comfortable knowing that they will be in our corner and standing behind their work. Swan (Lake Forest CA) James and his team (including all the people behind the scenes doing CAD drawings, permits, etc.) did a fantastic job on our pool, grotto and spa including the concrete decking. Even though we made a lot of changes and there were delays due to the weather (it NEVER rains in CA till we want to do something). Domie did a fabulous job on the design and the great contractors brought it to life. Once we met- we knew right away Swan was who we wanted to work with (we had met 3 other contractors) and he has become a great friend of the family. Mike came on later in the project (due to personnel changes) and did a outstanding job communicating and coordinating construction through the rest of the project. Brad's team did an outstanding job on the rock work and Grotto. Debbie was great at answering questions and communicating with us. We gave Swan the extra challenge of accommodating for handicapped access and we made several design changes along the way - they didn't complain- they just made it work. Follow up to my 6/4/17 review. I am not one to post to social media and public websites, but my 6/4/17 review was my last resort to get some action on fixing what I had paid for and what I had brought up during the construction process. I wish it hadn't taken a public forum to get some response, but I wasn't sure what else to do because emails and phone calls weren't helping. The general manager, Mr. James Fraser, jumped in, took charge, and resolve my concerns with the incorrectly installed plumbing equipment (disconnected, poured actual concrete pad per plans, reconnected, and restarted the equipment), resolved the electrical issue with the pool lights (not in sync), resolved the loose spa jet, and reset the pool LED light that was coming out of its housing. All items were resolved to my satisfaction but it should have never elevated to this point to get some results. I still don't recommend working with the company as I don't have any other experience with them other than what I previously wrote. Not sure what has changed that would convince me otherwise. read more

We used Swan Pools for a new pool build. Pros: -After all was said and done, we really like our pool and don't have any complaints about. It is exactly what we wanted. -We got multiple quotes (in August of 2020), and they were one of the least expensive. -They were willing to fix errors without too much fuss. -Our mason team was amazing! Cons: - I was the project manager: My husband and I both have fulltime jobs, and this was another full time job. Anytime we had work being done on the pool, we needed to be out their making sure everything was going according to the plan. We were the ones that were catching errors and problems. The actual project manager maybe would come by once every two weeks. My paying job suffered because I needed to take several days off so I could make sure things were going to plan. There were at least four big errors that I caught that were not anticipated in the plans, that would have been very costly if they had been caught even a day later. Many times the contractors would have questions and thankfully I was available to answer these questions otherwise they would have done whatever they thought was best. If you are detail oriented, make sure you have something written into your contract about a contractor coming by daily or every other day or plan on being out there yourself. It was a stressful experience for me. -Communication: It was very difficult to get timelines or really any information about what was going on. Some days we would wake up and have several workers outside working on the pool and then we wouldn't have anyone for two weeks. Better communication would have been nice. -Overscheduled and overbooked: I know because of Co-Vid everyone and their mom is getting a pool, but in my opinion they booked more pools than they have contractors. So we were constantly waiting for a contractor to free up so they could come work on our pool. Recommendations -Get everything in writing, don't rely on promises in the sales meeting to be met when starting the pool. -Each crew moves quickly, we were promised that we could tweak the plans after they started digging, which we could, but only if we were right there when they were doing the digging, if we were to wait until the end of the day, we would have missed the window. -Once you have decided on the materials have them order them right away. They did not do that for us and we had to change our tile selection. It worked out for the better, but it was frustrating at the time. If you have your heart set on a tile or material, have them order it right away. I know that the cons list is long, but as I said in the beginning the final product is just what we wanted and seems to be great quality. It was just the process that was not great. read more

We decided to add a pool to our backyard in 2019. We chose Swan Pools because 2 of our neighbors used them and they seemed to be ok with them. The "design" process started in Aug.2019. The pool was completed and able to use by March 2020 (perfect timing due to Covid). Our "designer" wasn't really a designer. More of a salesman. We had an idea of what we wanted for the pool in terms of size and shape and where to put it. We wanted to go as deep as we can and Jim suggested 8 ft so even though we wanted deeper we trusted his judgment. We had originally wanted the spa to be raised a little higher than the pool to provide a seating area and a waterfall into the pool. He said due to safety we couldn't because we wouldn't be able to see the deep end and if a kid needed help. Our kids are teenagers who are excellent swimmers. We didn't fight him on that and he said we would still have a waterfall. Never told us the size of the waterfall. Turned out to be a little 1 ft wide 2" high "waterfall" from the spa to the pool. Not what we wanted. We designed it to have a big Baja shelf. Because the spa is right next to the Baja shelf (they share a wall) we would have liked to have the water just flow between the two. It doesn't. We got 5 jets for the spa and were told we couldn't have the jets on the wall between the spa and the Baja shelf "because they can't run the pipes that go to it and the spa wall wasn't wide enough to accommodate it. Not true because they could have used the Baja shelf area to pipe it thru and it was too late to change the design. They got permit approval to build it on the wrong side of the backyard. They came in the first day and started moving things around in the wrong area. Luckily I was home to stop them or we would have come home to a hole on the wrong side of the pool. Apparently, someone added a dimension to the "design" drawing. We had a copy of it and showed exactly where it was supposed to be. Their "design" drawing showed a dimension that wasn't on the drawing we signed off on. Their contractors are messy. They would leave their lunch trash in the backyard. The dogs would start digging into the stuff they left behind. I had a nice cast iron iguana in the front yard that went missing during the construction of the pool. Their "foreman" wasn't on the job the whole time. The "designer" said they would have security cameras trained on the pool at all times and we would be able to see it 24/7. NOT true. They left a mound of dirt in our front yard when they were digging the sewer line. They didn't bother to even it out or remove it. They had a guy "show" us how the pool equipment worked and we opted for the wireless controller so he helped out setting that up on our phones. The lady that we hired to take care of the pool was there he skimmed over a lot of stuff thinking we wouldn't need to do anything with it. Wrong! We had lots of problems such as when we would want to use the spa mode (for jets) and switched it on the spa would start to drain. They didn't install the flap for the skimmer that prevented stuff in the skimmer to go back out to the pool. They had grouted over the holes for that flap. Overall I would say that our experience was not good. We like our pool but would have liked better help from the "designer" on what certain things were "standard to the industry" really meant. I would not recommend him. Their excavating contractors I would not recommend. When they were digging there were some nice-sized rocks they set aside. I asked if I could take them and use them for our garden. My kids moved them to the side of the backyard where they would not be working in. The contractors seemed upset by this and no longer separated the rocks when they were digging. I was told that they sometimes do that so they can use them on other jobs. Not sure if that's true or not. I would not recommend the contractors they use although their plumbing guy was nice enough to add an extra T-pipe for future use. I would not recommend Swan Pools. There were just too many issues and things not communicated properly. My iguana statue went missing and it really upset me. It was a gift from my mom who passed away and it meant a lot to me. If you do hire them, make a copy of everything in the design process. They give you a nice rendering but you can't keep it until you have a signed contract. Especially the "Final" drawing which they make you sign but they can change later and say you signed for it even though you know you didn't. Ask for all copies of the permits. Get extra lights. We added a light for the Baja shelf because they only put one in the deep end. We would have liked to add a 3rd one in the shallow end as it seems really dark. Read the contract carefully and all the dimensions of the drawings. Ask tons of questions and ask for pictures of their previous work. Make sure you know the tier for the tiles you can pick. Be sure your contract has everything you want is written out. read more

I am in the process of purchasing a home and my wife and I are looking to do a pool in the new house. The neighbor next door has a pool and I asked if they could share who did the pool. They told me it was Swan Pools. So my agent tried calling several times with no return call. I called and spoke to the receptionist and told her I wanted to get a quote to do a pool and that my agent had called numerous times with no call back. She said that the sales manager has been tied up but would have him call me back. I got the call after about an hour. The sales manager apologized and said he was really busy. I congratulated him for being so busy and told him about the pool next door and if he could give me a ballpark of how much that pool ran and if they had added casons. He said he didn't remember the pool but would look it up. We concluded to meet a couple of days later at the house so he could see the yard. He stated if I didn't hear from him about the cost of the pool next door he would just see me at our appointment date and time with the information. I asked if he could call me if he found the info prior to the appointment because I didn't want to waste time if the pool had casons. That would get the pool out of my range. He said he was so busy that he probably would not call me back and will see me at the appointment. I told him it was fine and again congratulated him for being so busy, sarcastically. He stated his business was way down from last year and would definitely had the resources to handle several more jobs. So the appointment was set. Today, I waited and waited and this guy never called or showed up. I am actually happy that he showed his true colors early on and not after I had embarked on the process. Swan Pools, shame on you. Horrific customer service. You guys can't even keep an appointment to get business or have the decency to call and tell a possible customer you are not showing up. It has been approximately 2 years since Swan built our pool. So far, the pool has had no issues but the pavers around the pool have basically fallen apart. Our contractor who is working on another part of the house looked at the pavers and told us that the reason the pavers are already falling part is because they were never set the right way in the first place. The spacing was done incorrectly, and Swan (or their subcontractors) used the wrong material between the pavers (basically they just used sand or grout instead of cement-type material for certain areas that needed the support). We contacted Swan, and Swan told us it's been 2 years and we initially signed off on the work so they will not stand behind it. So we will be paying for another contractor to fix Swan's work. We had some issues during the pool building process as well. But I wasn't going to leave a negative review, since it appeared at the time that the final work product was fine. I would not recommend Swan to anyone looking for a pool builder. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK OR THE WORK OF THEIR SUBCONTRACTORS. read more

We have had our swan pool for about 3 years now. I'm not going to go into the construction process much here though it wasn't the best. But I do want to say that the absolute highlight of working with swan has come after the fact. Their technician Andy is the true star of Swan and if I was only rating him, it would be 5 stars. He goes above and beyond "normal" levels of customer service and really shows that he cares about your pool. If maintenance is a worry of yours, definitely feel confident if Andy is on the job. Andy has walked us through the warranty and repair processes as needed and has always been super responsive. Swan Pools built our new pool and we are so happy with the result! Our designer,Jim, gave us a great design. From there we worked closely with Mike and Sal every step of the way. They were by often to check on things, meet with inspectors, or talk to the subs. They were very responsive to any text I sent, calling or stopping by for a face to face. Construction of any kind always feels like it moves slowly but the masons did an outstanding job with the stone work which was such an important part of the design! I made a couple changes along the way and Swan was able to work with those changes. Everything was addressed at finish including the smallest details! Even the driveway was power washed! I guess the best endorsement I can give is that if I ever move and want to build another pool, I would definitely hire SWAN Pools to build it! Danger !!! Stay away from these guys. To start, their sales guy Jim is a liar He gave us brochures of products we never received. I asked if we were getting a variable speed pump that saves enegry , he said yes (lie- we got a two speed pump - that wastes energy- I would have paid extra for better pump ) He told us to put equipment near spa because you would n't hear the pump and heater because "the new ones are so quiet" (lie - he just recommend that to save money on the piping and labor), He showed us these nice stainless steel jets for our spa (lie- we have cheap plastic ones that keep breaking and poping out) He was late to every meeting When pool was being built I would ask one their subcontacts (another lie - Jim says they don't sub out any of their work) about something that didn't seem right , then Swans project manager would come over and say "well it isn't in the contract" You really have to read the contract throughly because they will say one thing and then right something else in contract As far as the pool went.... They did not dig it deep enough The decking turned pink with grey polk dots - I had to fight with them for 2 1/2 months to fix/paint over deck with epoxy The pool project started in May finished early October Follow up service is terrible - When thing break they never return messages and hang up on you when you point out their mistakes read more

Well I am glad to report that our pool FINALLY was completed- at the 17 week mark. Only 9 weeks overdue!!! The comical antics, lack of communication and lack of customer service continued the entire time and was quite a painful process. I even filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and got a tenuous response that lacked any culpability for the ongoing issues. We failed the final inspection before water could go in the pool! There were several issues that the inspector noted that they should have known better but were clearly trying to get away with. And the crowning glory was the pool equipment location made the fence not up to code! Swan couldn't charge me for that one!!! It was a debacle from start to finish and I couldn't be happier it is over with. The pool does look nice and we're enjoying it but it wasn't worth 17 weeks of agony. By the way Swan averages a C on Angie's List and there are quite a few D and F ratings. The only nice thing I have to say about Swan Pools is that Debbie and Ashley are helpful. read more

Very upset about this company. After I scheduled an appointment I received a confirmation email confirming the appointment. I even called the office that morning to let them know that i might be running a few minutes late due to traffic... she said no problem she'll let the designer know ... and then had me drive over 1 h through traffic to meet with the "designer". He never showed up. I called the office again, then they told me he accidentally was booked twice. I told them that i had took off work and I had a long drive to get here, if they could just send someone else or the designer could come afterwords. But she said it's not possible. I doubt, a company that is not able to properly schedule appointments nor appreciates the time of a potential client, sure isn't capable to deliver in other areas of their business. read more

We had a pool, spa, waterfall, fireplace, bbq island, outdoor room, fire pots, fire pit and fountain installed. From the initial appointment to the end, they were punctual and helpful. Their designer was great, and helped us so much in coming up with a great design. He stayed involved until the end of the job, and helped us select all of our furniture and accessories. They started the job by demolishing our old pool and decks. Not a scratch on the stucco even though the removed slab was next to the house. We already had a coliseum structure with nine columns and a spiral staircase with three attachment points. They managed to save both, and it looks like they were built after the new deck was poured. They started construction with a surveyor who took laser measurements of our lot. He was on site for a day and a half. Everything about their work was precise, which was good because our lot has three levels and extensive stone work. There was absolutely no hassle, no change orders. (Btw, they started business in the 1950s). We were never bothered, and their people were always nice and polite. People we know who are contractors rave about the stonework. We recommended them to our daughter and her husband. Domie, their designer, is amazing. And he kept us from making some big mistakes on the design. This was a big job, and we're totally happy with the outcome. We also got bids from mission pools and silver springs pools. They both have been in business awhile, but we really weren't blown away by their ideas, or the presentation of their bids. I can't say anything bad about either company though, and you might want to get a bid from them. So, another month has passed and things are moving along smoothly. My attitude towards Swan has improved. Each and every crew they've sent over has been awesome. James who oversees everything is equally impressive. I will say, after Shotcrete is done, be prepared to spend a lot of time with your future pool because you'll be watering it 3 or 4 times a day for about 30 minutes each time. This process will last at least 2 weeks. It does give you a lot of time to daydream about the finished product though. Another word of advice, just pick your tiles our before your contract is signed. There will be a lot talk about "groups" which will mean nothing to you. We of course liked all the tiles that were just above our approved "groups". This was of course was an upcharge as well. Save yourself the struggle of trying to settle on tiles that you may not love and figure it out before. All in all though, I'd say, "Yay! I'm a fan" I hope it only gets better. read more

I am an infrequent reviewer here at Yelp, but when I find a business worth reviewing I try to take the time to do it. After much discussion our family decided that we loved our house but with our kids getting older we really wanted to have a pool. After a great deal of further discussion, coordinating finances and interviewing several companies we settled on Swan Pools. We wanted a local company that had a long history in the area and after researching and interviewing several companies we made our decision to go with them. Delia Vanciu was our primary contact, initially. She is their office coordinator and the person you will speak with the most. (Just a note, she is very organized and extremely pleasant). Jim Eldridge was the first person we met with in person and he was our designer. Interestingly, after having watched countless home improvement shows I think we expected a CAD design and an elaborate computer display. Jim came over, took measurements, listened to what we wanted and free-hand (with some protractors and circles) drew our design. This actually was a huge benefit as it helped us visualize the space and make changes in real time before it was submitted to the design team to create a mock up for us to approve. He is very knowledgable and and we discussed several designs but finally settled on on a traditional design (not a sport pool) extra deep (8 feet due to lots of kids diving) and and extra foot of diameter for our jacuzzi (8 feet instead of the standard 7). If I am able I will post photos that show how much the initial design looked like our finished product-which for the record turned out to be 100% awesome. To make what could be a very long story reasonably short, Jim turned over the project to our head contractor Brett. (Awesome, organized, easy to talk to and willing to help and add his opinions but also listen to yours) He coordinated the subcontractors all of whom were pleasant, relatively efficient (there are always some delays), clean and courteous to the family and to our neighbors (Hugely important and valuable). They were able to dig the pool using 3 bobcats down the side of our house. They did not have to remove the AC, they simply worked around it. They found a work around so that they did not have to saw-cut our driveway. The project progressed well with the longest "delay" due to the masons completing another project. (Our rule was as long as they don't rush ours...they don't have to rush anyone else's) Even that was really only about a week to10 days. Each step they did was reviewed by Brett with us and the quality was assured at each step. Their overall quality was outstanding but they also did some things that were small value adds that really added up and demonstrated they knew what they were doing. The finished product is amazing as far as we are concerned. There were some things we had to add on (additional costs) that (despite really trying to think of everything and incorporate it into the design) we just couldn't foresee. (A gate, some additional stone patio and stone finishing along a large section of wall. A curb to hold back some or our landscaping.) But Brett worked with us and it all got done and made a huge difference. The final part was the set up with Pool Partners Service and Repair. They made a special trip out, on a weekend before a heat wave on a holiday weekend to get the final set up going so we could use it. We decided to go with them for service and have also been extremely happy. (As we were with our Gate Builder recommended by Brett) If we had to find something to balance out our review I would say the communication with us before a step started could have been improved. When a major section was complete and the next part needed to start we didn't have a lot of advanced warning. Some of this is due to the way the crews work but if we needed to be there to oversee things or give permission then obviously additional time is always helpful. We also had one small section of stone wall that we needed finished and it took the masons a bit of time to get back to it, but Brett was on top of it and helped us get it all of the way done. We followed their standard pay structure as each component was completed we would pay for it, we never felt pressured and Delia would remind us when a payment was due which is helpful. Once everything was totally done, our setup and service was complete and our inspections done (Swan preps you for it all) Brett came back and took pictures and checked in. So that is where we are now. Incredibly happy with the final product, the people and very happy with the overall process in general. We didn't have Swan do the landscaping though we could have easily gone with their design. We happen to have an exceptional gardener (Mike Kim) who wanted the business and who we think is incredible so we had him do it. Advice: USE SWAN, get rid of ALL trees that shed, lots of umbrella holes, extra waterfalls w/a separate pump! read more

We met with several companies for our backyard remodel and we are so excited to be moving forward with DQ and Swan Pools. From the start DQ has been excellent. He has really taken the time to get to know us and our family and use that information for our pool design. We had a good idea of what we thought our backyard redesign would look like. DQ's design surpassed our vision and expectations. He not only gave us exactly what we wanted but much much more. All while making sure he is staying within our budget. Swan pools installed my pool almost 20 years ago. They did a great job and I wanted them to do a remodel for me. I contacted them and they informed me if the project was less than 65,000 they aren't inclined to take the job. They referred me to Gardener pools who has been spot on since the day I called them. I signed my contract with them within 6 days. A Swan pool representative followed up with me a week or so ago and made sure I was being taken care of by Gardener. What great customer service! After speaking with several friends about recommendations for pool contractors, we decided to go with Swan for our pool, hardscape and landscape project. We initially worked with Jim Eldridge on the budget and design. He played a big role in working around our objectives and helped create a pool that is both functional and met our budget. As a bit of wisdom, prior to signing the contract, validate the finish details (tile, concrete, landscape) so they are within your expectations. You might want to consider hiring a professional designer to assemble the look you desire. Our project manager, Sal Grasso, was responsive and collaborative along the way. He played a significant intermediary role when we ran into an issue with the County to meet 5 foot wall height requirements. He worked with the County and our pool safety fence vendor to get our fence approved to meet requirements. Be prepared to work closely with the project manager to ensure the details are completed to your liking. Overall, we are pleased with the result and craftsmanship. We did experience delays along the way, mostly due to our HOA and the County, but Swan stayed engaged in the process. If I can offer any advice to people taking on home renovation projects would be to expect unforeseen delays, review design details during contracting, and have some patience when it comes to HOA's and County approvals. I have had a YELP account for a few years and am finally inclined to post a review. Swan just finished my pool and spa. I cannot say enough not only about how great it looks but about the entire experience. I was a little nervous about the whole thing but it turned out great. From day 1 with Domie coming out to my house to help me with design ideas to Bret overseeing the construction process it was a pleasure. Domie knows his craft. His vision and energy was exactly what a homeowner wants to see in a designer. He assisted in picking out stone, color combo, adding a jacuzzi, the right texture, lighting, coping...etc. The pool which was 50 years old came out looking as modern as any pool out there. My kids now live in the pool and my neighbors are blown away by the transformation. In addition I had my realitor came out to see the yard and she told me the upgrade easily has added 150k-200k to my homes value. Working with Swam will improve the overall quality of life you enjoy in your yard and also your homes resale value. Once Bret took over the building stage things moved smoothly. The team he brought in was no bullsh**. These guys came in and went to work. They emptied the pool, regraded it, redid the asphalt, added new stone work, added a jacuzzi..basically redid the the whole thing. They came in when they said they would and finished on time. I was so impressed I hired their team to do additional work in my yard. Domie and Bret will make your project an enjoyable one. They also have a nice flexable payment plan.
