I can see why now, having tasted several dishes from the menu. For what could easily pass as just another pub, this place is not like your average pub yet is very cosy and casual. It is clean and presentable. Staff take time to prepare the table before the dish is served, drinks arrive quickly. Our dishes also came at the same time. The owner is what makes it worth coming back to, as his attention to detail and friendly personality liven it up. He has been in business for years for a reason. He runs a tight ship and puts the customer first. What a joy! And the food. You will find both breakfast and lunch items on the menu. Portion sizes are huge. The club sandwich is not to be taken down easily, as my classmate will tell you. As for me, I enjoyed the fish and chips with just the right amount of batter, crisp chips and a delicious tartar sauce with small side of lettuce. The lamb burger, minute steak and eggs benedict were all classically done. You will get fries with every dish and can substitute salad. The best dish I had was attributed to the French owner recommending the Tartiflette Savoyarde. It was my first time trying it and was a bowl of cheesy goodness with bacon, onion and potatoes served with a giant salad and baguette. This was no meal for the weak, come hungry and you will be satisfied.

It boasts an expansive outdoor seating area which would be perfect for the summer months. While there are outdoor heaters they get hogged by the smokers so its indoors we go... Inside is simple. Nothing to flash, but simple wooden tables and chairs and rustic decor. The bar has no optics but shelves of eclectic spirits. I spied in the fridges some interesting fruits not normally part of the standard bar fare. This place takes everything very seriously. A wonderful cocktail, non alcoholic cocktail lists, wine and food menu. A board prominently displayed in the bar gives the range of desert wines and the food seems seasonal and very French. While we did not sample the food, and as always with French restaurants there was not much to tempt the vegetarians among us. I'd be interested in seeing how the meat lovers among you feel the food is. That afternoon there was an interesting mix of clientele, from the family in the corner to two old guys propping up the bar and enjoying a bottle of rioja. There was also a lot going on in the place with weird and wonderful events taking place. Overall a smashing place for groups and a nice drink.

We were given menus and offered a choice water - including free tap water with ice and mint leaves, were presented a complimentary salmon amuse bouche and ordered cocktails. So far, so good. Once our delicious cocktails arrived, we ordered our starters and mains, and a bottle of wine. Unfortunately the white wine arrived warm, but it did come with an ice bucket, so it cooled down whilst we ate our starters. To our surprise, the mains (a standard burger and chips) arrived stone cold, but we let the waiter know, and he seemed genuinely apologetic and brought us fresh ones, which were hot. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it anything outstanding. The whole Parlour bar and restaurant menu has a quirky "circus" theme, with the cocktails named things like "tears of a clown" and "fairground millionaire", and the chips served in mugs or flower pots! Our burgers were served on a plastic cafeteria style lunch tray. Whilst the service was good, the prices were a little on the high side given the quality. I suppose it's the central Canary Wharf location that draws in customers looking for team lunches paid for on company credit cards.

The outside area (when it stopped raining) was really nice (the pop up ice cream bar looked amazing but was the slowest service I've ever seen) and the space inside is shabby but nice. A bit hidden away but in London that's never a bad thing and just means you may actually get a seat! The wine was reasonable and the mac'n'cheese was delicious. A good find and one I'll keep in my pocket for when I'm in the area.

Seeing the once legendary Strongroom bar redecorated, stripped of its original Jamie Reed - of Sex Pistols fame - motifs and largely of its character is a sad and disappointing sight on par with seeing Johnny Rotten appearing on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. It shouldn't have happened but it has. Regardless, this is an interesting Shoreditch venue steeped in - recent - history, with friendly staff, a beautiful paved outdoor area with seating which is lush during the Summer, and a recording studio upstairs which lends the Strongroom a certain cultish appeal.

Lovely things at night: - Happy cheesy music - The bar tender made me a free cocktail (as it was my hen night) ...that was really sweet of him (and I appreciated it) but the cocktail itself was pretty rubbish. I suppose it might have had some kind of essence of alcohol...but it just tasted like pineapple juice. Less lovely: - It is quite a small space, but there were sooo many people squished in. It was pretty steamy... - The loos were gross in the evening...and some weird ladies have kissed the loo walls(!?) The next morning we wandered in here for tea/ recovery juice and it was like a different world! Chilled, relaxed vibe and the loos were clean again... The staff were a bit dappy and slow in the morning, but that's fair enough - it was the morning!! *If you are staying in the hostel next door, tell them and you get a discount.

In that area, you go up and order and they bring out your food. Easy. Supposedly. First, they were out of almost everything we tried to order. My husband and I ordered a starter for the table and it came out first. Then our companions got their food - and the two of us waited for our mains. And waited. And waited. Watching as so many people after us got their food. We checked in at the 45 minute mark. Still no food. Finally at the hour mark, we asked to speak to a manager as our friends were already done with their meal. A manager came over and told us that the wait was our fault because we had ordered a starter for the table, our mains would automatically come out 50 minutes later. It was "the system". No attempts to apologize that our food was so late or that our friends were done with their entire meal. No attempts to make things right or to comp us a drink (we had bought two bottles of wine at this point). The food finally came out and it was good (i had the roast chicken and my husband had fish and chips). We were so hangry that anything would have been good. No attempt to check back or apologize or any of it. I guess they got what they wanted as our friends ended up buying more drinks to sit with us. So in short: attractive place, decent food but lousy service. If you're in a group, don't be the nice ones to order the starter for the table. You'll be penalized.

It was one of those situations where we'd been out all day running around London, found ourselves in Soho and wanted to extend our night with a drink, but really didn't feel spiffy enough to head to any of our preferred nightspots - nor did we want to settle for the typical pub either. Hence, *Zebrano* - whatever that means... It's always a wonder to me how places like this stay in business, let alone continue to attract droves of customer, but the bar was buzzing enough for us to take it as a semi-good sign and we decided to have a go. Inside we found an uninspiring bar, a cocktail list of drinks that sounded suspiciously weak and sugary, and grimy black tables - but plenty of people! After ordering a couple of vodka tonics (playing it safe) we decided that the real action was definitely outside and went back out in search of a table and a heat lamp. And it was there that we learned what the Zebrano scene is all about... men stared (ludicrously), but didn't approach, some girl was doing her darndest to impress a bloke with a childhood tap-dance routine, and every time a bit of pickup conversation drifted our way it was just pathetically inane - entertaining - but inane... ummm... *why* am I here again? Seriously, even if you're feeling a bit shabby, but still crave a bar scene, there *must* be a better option somewhere in Soho than this... (I'll let you know when I find it).
