Love this place. It has a very welcoming environment. I've been here with friends and family, so basically, you can bring anyone. I used to come here often after volunteering at the pasadena humane society. It's a great lunch spot, very affordable for broke teenagers like me too. The prices are very good and the portion isn't insanely big either (smaller than your average udon soup bowl), but still enough to keep me full for hours, and very good for the $2.95 price. The food is very tasty too! The inside can get a little warm however (didn't feel any air conditioning in the 104 degree weather yesterday). I usually just get the shrimp tempura udon noodle soup, which is basically the main for my meals, and avocado eel rolls, a side dish, all for myself. Honestly, just those two dishes are enough for one person, since the portion is just right: it's not too much and not too little. Other recommended dishes: shrimp tempura roll and blue baked crab roll. Best of all, you can get your old town shopping done at stores all around sushi stop. I'll be back many more times. read more

Walked into this place for a quick bite looking for some sushi. We ordered some rolls and a salmon nigiri. The rolls were mediocre at best. The rice was gummy and stuck together and the fish didn't taste that fresh. The nigiri was pretty good. The fish tasted good and the rice wasn't as stuck together. I would equate it to sushi that you would find at a high end grocery store like Whole Foods.The service was great and they even threw in a 10% discount and roll cake for free as a promotion for following their instagram. Cheap sushi but not high quality. But overall can't complain since you get a relatively good quantity for the price. We tried 6 different rolls (4-6 pieces each roll) and a Tempura green tea ice cream and the bill was $22- really reasonable! The only dish that was good was their Unagi roll and the popcorn shrimp one. The tempura spicy ahi roll had potential (was unfortunately with soggy nori) and so did the spicy ahi with guacamole (not enough spice to contrast the mellow guacamole). The baked ones (Scallop and Dynamite rolls) were too heavy and just not very flavorful (bland). The tempura ice cream was probably the worst item here- since it wasn't fried properly (became more like a pound cake batter outside) and not very good overall in flavor. The concept of Sushi Stop was really intriguing to me. They advertise most items on their menu as $2.75, except for premium items. In my mind, this is a great way to get an inexpensive sushi lunch with built-in variety and customization. It's a little bit misleading because over half the menu is made up of premium items. Of what we ordered based on level of interest, about half were actually priced at $2.75: the Sea Scallop with Yuzu Kusho (2), the Spicy Tuna Roll (8), White Tuna (2), and Seaweed Salad. If you want the standard tuna, salmon, albacore, and smelt egg, those are all standard price. Anything aburi (grilled on top) is premium as well as uni and unagi. Everything else we ordered cost more than $2.75: Aburi Yellowtail Belly (2 @ $3.20), Tempura Shrimpereno, a shrimp and jalapeno tempura roll, covered with crispies, and a slightly sweet Japanese mayo sauce sprinkles (5 @ $4.10), the Seafood Ceviche Roll, with rice paper wrapped around salmon, Avocado, and Pickled Carrot and topped with tomato, jalapeno, and ceviche sauce (5@ $4.10), and the Philly Roll (4 @ $3.10). Okay prices aside, I really liked the Aburi Yellowtail. It was flavorful and tender and fresh without the propane smell you sometimes get from seared fish. The scallop was really briny and I liked the dollop of yuzu kusho. Their specialty rolls are a little suspect. That Shrimpereno was fine without the sweet mayo sauce. I hated the rice paper, think Spring Roll, wrapper for the Ceviche Roll though I thought the sauce and "salsa" like topping was interesting. Ultimately, I think it's not as cheap as you think it is if you are trying out the menu. I think if you have a set idea of what you want/like and order exclusively that, you can stay on budget and really enjoy yourself. o1.21.17 I would like to share a story that happened during my late Saturday dinner, so I decided to write a review and share the story here since it happened at this restaurant, obviously. It was late, around 9:30pm and there was a small line at Sushi Stop, so I think to myself, "Woah, a lot of people have late dinner like us. Haha" We stepped in trying to get our name on the waiting list, but someone that looked like Abraham Lincoln was holding the list. I mean, he literally looked like Abraham because he's tall, skinny (not as skinny as Abraham but still very skinny), and has that Abraham beard. So my bf was like, "Hey, let us know when you're done with the list." No answer... Ok, that was RUDE. So we put our name down after he put it down then we waited outside. While we were stepping down, that same guy was going back in with another short haired lady, not very lady like though, so let's call her woman. There are many different kinds of women. You choose. We sat down outside the chairs, then I saw this woman comes out and tried to slam the door but they have those soft close glass door so you can't really do that so it was kind of funny. Then she started talking to this one couple that was waiting outside, shouting "The page that had our name on it was gone and we waited for 30 minutes and never got my name called." Then one of the waiters came out to call for the person next on the list but he wasn't there, then this woman told him what happened to her with anger. So she got seated inside after this waiter checked inside. I don't understand why she was trying to make a scene, because first of call, I am sure you or your friend wasn't there when they called your name if you wrote your name down bc when we put our name down, it was already to the second line of the second page, and if your name wasn't even on the first page, are you sure you even put your name down? Or you were gone for the longest time that one page of people already finished their meals. Um, hellllooo. Then we got seated at the sushi bar a few mins after them, which they were two seats away from us. Then all of a sudden, a lot of people heard her because again, she was like shouting. "This place is his best sushi restaurant in the United States." Everyone that heard her looked their way with an awkward smile. And all I can hear was only her voice, as it's like she was talking to herself. But anyway, I only thought, "woah, then he has very low taste in food." And I don't know if he felt embarrassed, bc I would have if it was me. Anyway, all I was trying to say is that, people are only trying to do their job and others should show appreciation instead of making a scene. When others look at it, it does not make sense. And, the waiter was very attentive and friendly. Though I didn't think the food was excellent but the service was great. We told the chef that the toro hand roll was great, and he said thank you with a big smile. And the grilled salmon roll we had was kind of fishy like I can smell it when it got to us, then we just simply told our waiter when we were paying, he took the order off from our bill. We didn't expect that but that was very kind. People will know if you're actually being nice or not depending how you show it. They did raise the price a bit but it's alright. Their items are mostly $2.95 and some are a little more but not that much more. They will state the price so not to worry it's still pretty good. The answer, folks, is: "Not enough information". I came in for a light snack, didn't stay too long, and didn't order too much food so my review will be quick. I think I have a good feel of the restaurant but take this review with a grain of salt. I've always been a little reluctant to dine at those revolving sushi bars where you pay per plate and everything's priced the same. I feel like it usually means that the quality isn't there. All menu items were priced the same minus like... half the menu. Wish I got a photo. I came at 8PMish on a Tuesday night. No wait. I was seated and placed an order of the salmon, Japanese mackerel, snapper, and dynamite roll. It came out relatively quickly. The first three were all two pieces. The roll was four. Salmon was relatively plain, I felt that they don't give you enough rice. The Japanese mackerel was the star of the show. Both the mackerel and the snapper were topped with a dab of a yuzu sauce that made it very flavorful. The yuzu was amazing with the mackerel, but not so much for the snapper. The mackerel had the typical, tart, savory flavor. Was my favorite out of what I ordered. The snapper was okay... I've never been a fan but... I guess I got it because I wasn't willing to pay a little extra for yellowtail or something. For the dynamite roll, you get four tiny pieces of California rolls topped with a few tablespoons of extremely salted mayo, a few scallops, and baked. It tasted alright... I had to scoop off the majority of the mayo. Plus parts of the roll was cold. I was too hungry to care. Overall, the food was nothing special... quality was mediocre. I'm not sure what Rebecca W. is talking about... (sorry I don't mean to call you out, your review just happens to be in the top right corner) but I think the haters have a reason to hate. For $10-15, I DID NOT eat my heart out. I got six slices of sushi and a four-piece roll that was supposed to have been hot. For double that price, I could be eating at an AYCE joint whereas... If i got two times what I ordered... I'd probably still be hungry. So even though I didn't eat that much or spend that much time here, I think it's fair to say my review is justified. If i can give this place a 0 star, I would. Went to SushibStop Sunday on 1/28. Ordered to go. When I got home ate and few hours later, and I started not to feel right. I throw up what I ate. I realize I got food poison. I called the manager the next day and got no call back. So I called today and spoke to the manager. The response from the manager is that he can not do anything about it because of their policy. So if you ever eat here and get food poison, they will not do anything for you. We came to SushiStop since we wanted to satisfy our sushi craving after checking out a nearby art exhibit. We came mostly due to SushiStop's cheap and decent quality reputation since we wanted to get home as quick as possible. I was a little surprised at the price since it seemed pretty standard compared to other sushi places (~$3.50 for two pieces). I guess for rolls and other items like the udon, though, these foods are decently priced. Our food came out amazingly quick. I'm used to waiting for a while as the sushi chef battles an inundation of orders while still meticulously crafting the food. Our food probably came out within 10 minutes of ordering, but there was a little bit of sacrifice for the speed. This locations is meh. The food is the typical Sushi Stop menu so that's a plus. However, I did try the Teriyaki Bowl, for my first time and it was okay. Menu is filled with $2.75 sushi that you just don't want to stop ordering OR eating...but you will because you'll be full from 3-4 orders already. But be sure to read the tiny numbers next to what your order, if there is a number, then that is the price. For example, if you see a 3.2, that means the dish is $3.20. Tricky right? It's in a tiny tiny font and you wouldn't have known had you not asked them. What I really like about this sushi stop is that it is open late, til 11:00 or 12:00 depending on the day of the week. I came on a Friday night and it wasn't super packed, didn't have to wait for a seat! Well that's a first timer. I can be impatient when it comes to waiting and especially when I'm super hungry too... This location has a nice setup, the way their seats are arranged makes the places feel more intimate. I also like that there are actual tables set up, as opposed to eating around the sushi bar/kitchen and having no personal space since you're always sitting next to others. I see that they have "upped" their prices for certain items on their menu, such as the Las Vegas Roll and the Eel Roll :(. It's not much more of a price hike, but it does affect my decision of whether or not to order the roll if I'm eating on a budget. If you are also in the mood for dessert, please please order the green tea tempura ice cream! They do such a good job of decorating it and its delish. 4.7 stars! Oh my goshhhh, I love SushiStop and this branch is just as good as the others. I brought my family here for their first time experience, and they loved it too! Food is good, price is good, and service is good! I love their dynamite roll, baked salmon roll (my favorite), and their tempura udon. Had the worst encounter imaginable from a customer's point of view. My wife went to pick up an order that we placed through Doordash. The staff at the front was rude af and HE STARTED TO YELL AT HER because he had hard time locating the order. I don't know what his problem is, but he was screaming at the top of his lungs to the degree where despite the music, everyone in the restaurant stopped eating to stare at him. When he was done, he snatched another staff to get us our order, who was able to quickly retrieve our order from the back! I can definitely see some reviews here regarding the same rude staff, a.k.a. the tall Asian guy with glasses.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BROWSING THROUGH THE REVIEWS BEFORE PLACING ANY ORDER. You will find many other one star reviews here containing other horrid stories from different customers. Located in the heart of Old Town Pasadena (very limited parking); it's generally pretty busy but the wait for a table is never too long. My friend and I split a California roll, gyoza, and crispy rice. Personally, I believe they serve rather high-quality foods for the price paid. The California roll has the perfect combination of creamy avocado and soft imitation crab. I'm really picky when it comes to gyozas but I love the filling and the crispness. Good. Well priced and fast service. Only downside is if there's a big wait, but that's any good place. They got a great model of smaller portions at lower price, but still higher quality. I have been there many times and will continue to do so. You get a good assortment of food for the price. Don't be fooled by the low prices. Everything adds up quickly and you do get small portions for the 4-5 bucks per item. The high end items cost more and are still relatively reasonable, but again small portions. Everything is tasty and well made so it's great. Do not go during the prime dinner hours or you will have to wait outside which is a pain. I love the simplicity of the place the the attentive service. Everyone is generally nice. I say generally because once a server said "this isn't my section." And walked off. It only happened once and hasn't happened again. I will say sushi stop is a good establishment. It's not sugar fish but it's not trying to be. I thought I had ordered a BAKED salmon roll to go. Not this. It looked cooked on top but when I flipped it over, it was completely RAW. This could've gave me food poisoning if I had eaten it. I'm glad my intuition told me to check it out first before I took a bite. I know that the sushi is cheap here but it shouldn't come with the risk of a food borne illness. Came here because I heard they were cheap and had fresh, good quality fish. When we got there the place was busy and there was a line outside. All good signs. But, it just went downhill from there. Overall, huge disappointment coming here. Pros- they seat you fast. Bring food out fast. Menu has a nice variety. Cons- Portions are tiny!! They give you four tiny pieces of sushi at $3.75. How is anyone gonna get full off of those portions. For two people, that was more like a sample than an actual meal. At least other places give 8 pieces per roll. We had to order double the amount of everything just to get a decent dinner. Four tiny, paper thin slivers of peppered tuna was $8. How is that a bargain??? At the end of it all, it came out to $80+. We get bigger portions and better quality in so many other nice, sit down restuarants. And the bill isn't nearly as much. Will not be coming back here. read more

SushiStop is the stop you need to make for a quick affordable bite of sushi! I've been to the other location out in LA so I was all for coming to this location as well. I love SushiStop because their rolls are super affordable ranging from $3-$10 ish a roll. But also don't let that fool you! It adds up! Especially if you're a big eater like me haha. Their rolls are fresh and sometimes the fish is melt in your mouth tasting! I recommend the crispy rice, anything salmon. If you want "more pieces" I would suggest going with the simple rolls rather rolls with more fancier names/ingredients in it. They taste equally amazing, and I personally like those better because it doesn't overpower the taste of the fish ( because that's what you want right?? ). If you want a taste of a variety of fish without too much commitment, I suggest the rainbow roll. This will always be my *cheap splurge of sushi* otherwise I'd do AYCE sushi. read more

I think the big question I should be asking myself is "Why did I come here?" So that one star is for me. Now here is their one star . If you are a child, you'll love all the rolls covered in muck and atrocious service. I read one review where some poor dude drove from San Pedro only to be turned away. I don't know what angers me more, someone driving all the way from San Pedro to try this place, or them turning him and his girlfriend away. What I like about this place is how cheap it is. Mainly all of what they have to offer on the menu is $2.75. Though other portions like udon or chicken teriyaki bowl are smaller, it's not too bad for $2.75. They also have some interesting rolls and I do recommend their truffle sushi. Though the quality aren't as great as bigger sushi restaurants, you get what you pay for. Quality of their sashimi aren't too bad here and if you're looking for cheap sushi, this is the place to be. Service isn't too bad either since they have about 5 employees working here and with the place being kind of small, it's not hard for you to flag them down to help you. Good service and cheap sushi is a combination that's hard to find. With ok quality sushi, it makes this place worth trying. Plenty of options on the menu.
