No vegetarian options at the time of writing. The large sushi rolls are just over the $3 mark and tasty without being over sugared or vinegared. There are small roll packs and a katsudon, curry and karaage meal offered also in small and large sizes. A hotbox has a few crunchy fryer nibbles. Again, no vegetarian options. Limited english made behind the counter and no Japanese language skills on my part made any variation to orders too difficult on a couple of occasions. Fresh delicate fast food.

This place served the most awful meals we have ever had…read more The menu shows pictures of very appealing meals, our meals looked nothing like the ones depicted in the menu. As you can see in the photos they look unappealing and they were. My seafood Laksa came out with 2 macerated , cold looking mussels on top, 2 very small prawns , this constituted the "seafood" part, there was supposed to be fish cake as well, but that was just missing. The mussels did not look edible, and I didn't eat them. There were 2 large chunks of cold eggplant coated in something that was only half cooked. The tofu puffs were falling to pieces due to being so soggy. The beancurd skin was just awful, tasted burnt. The 'spicy coconut broth" was thick, no coconut flavour and just tasted like uncooked curry powder. After 2 spoons of the "broth" I gave up, it was disgusting. $17.90 worth of terrible, inedible food. My husband had the Pappa Char Koay Teow. When it came out we actually queried if it was the right dish as it looked nothing like what we were expecting. It also looked unappealing. Again it was a "seafood" dish, he got 2 very small prawns and a few pieces of fish cake as the seafood component. Tasted like plain noodles with a little bit of spice thrown on was his comment, at least he could eat his. We don't often try "chain" food places , this would have to have been the worse one we have tried. The picture of the Laksa was what got us there. Wouldn't recommend, and won't go back. Just wish Yelp would allow 0 , for truly awful places.

Anyway, without hesitation he referred me to "a great little Thai place around the corner". The Thai Cottage is unassuming from the street and a reasonably plain layout inside as well. I would compare Thai Cottage to the well known Vietnamese establishments, Quan Thanh & Trang in Hardgrave Rd, West End (see my review of Trang)- very similar style with good , cheap honest, and importantly, authentic Thai food. My chicken choo chee was a tasty red curry base served with jasmine rice. The vegetables had been nicely prepared, for example, the carrot was thinly sliced not big thick rounds like you sometimes find. My lunch was accompanied by a pot of jasmine tea and the bill came to the princely sum of only $12.50

I stopped in for lunch. Friendly service and fast. However, the pasta wasn't good…read more I chose the Italiano pasta as it was one of the few pasta dishes that did not have cream in it. Yes, there was an abundance of cream on the menu. A short wait the dish arrived bagged in a takeaway container with some plastic cutlery so the place is great for a quick drop in for a takeaway lunch on the go. However, on this occasion I dined in. After I removed the plastic tub from the bag and tearing the lid off, the aroma of puttanesca sauce hit my nostrils but it was hardly puttanesca (it was Italiano!). The pasta was swimming in oil and the bacon bits were not caramelised. There was no love here, pizza toppings flash pan fried and served on over cooked pasta. Boo hoo.... Will have to try their pizza. I think this is what la taste is all about because their pasta was not that great.

This is our second time ordering from here, but this time turned me off:…read more We ordered 'the lot' complete with anchovies. For five hungry adults, the #4 value pack with 4 mains and a large rice dish was plenty, with a little left over for lunch. We ordered the honey chicken (AMAZING!) chicken & cashews (weird sauce, pretty bland) sweet & sour pork (very sweet but went down a treat with the rest of our party) and the beef & black bean (crowd favorite) plus a combination fried rice which was pretty good too. It was all excellent value at $60 including prawn crackers. Ready in less than half an hour after ordering, I would definitely recommend if you feel like a nice take out.
