Completely overpriced. The sushi is good, even above average quality, but I've just as good of sushi for half the price.

Says it's under new management. That's unfortunate. Took nearly an hour to get our food. Then it was not as advertised. They substituted the filet mignon on my red demon roll with tuna without asking or telling me. When I asked about it the waitress gave me some excuse about people don't like the filet mignon. We always get really high quality, big chunks of fish. It's B1G1 on sushi rolls, but only if you eat in the restaurant. You get refills on green tea, too. Tempura items have always been VERY nice and crispy for us too. Only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are ALWAYS "out" of tamago (one of bf's favorite). We have been several times and they never have it... I'm not dropping stars further for this next part, but the last time we went (less than a week ago) we must've had a new server.... we went around 3-ish, and we were the only 2 in the restaurant. He was young, but very polite and attentive to refilling our green tea. I had pretty small pieces of shashimi with my sampler (they are usually huge), and he got all of my individual sashimi/nigiri orders wrong. Like many before me I agree that the ambiance was great but sushi one falls short in other areas. My wife and I ordered the crab wonton app which was made ok but not great. They pared the wontons with a store bought duck sauce mixed with sweet chili sauce which just did not work for me. So I waited for our server to return to ask for a different sauce. As I waited and waited some more my wife and I realized I would end up waiting until they get cold so I sucked it up and consumed the mediocre appetizer. Next we had four rolls which were good but were made like the kind you get at a buffet. They just were not special. As for the service our server was slow and I had to actually walk to the sushi bar to ask for refills of our beverages. The saddest part was the other server was catering to his guest non stop. From our dining perspective if two servers were able to come into a middle ground this place would be perfect. One needs to be faster and more attentive while the other needs to let his guest eat with him not hovering over the table. Probably the worst sushi Ive ever had. The wait staff is great, all nice HS-College kids. The sushi falls apart, has a vey poor amount of ingredients inside. So basically you're paying for terribly steamed rice and veggies. Go to Kai or Sake House. You will have a WAY better sushi experience than this. Have no idea why people come here. read more

I've been to sushi one merely over the past three years and mainly because of their outdoor seating in Lafayette village. I'm always skeptical about the food and every time I try switching out my order to something different but honestly something is constantly lacking. Yes, the servers are nice and friendly (except the older female). I would recommend this place if you want to explore Lafayette village but for good sushi and authentic Asian food this is not the place. Also note to Sushi one, you have a vegetarian dish (vegetarian tempura) that comes with rice, yet you add EGG, a CHICKEN egg in the rice. Does this make sense? Had a pleasant experience dining at this restaurant this past weekend. Our waitress was personable and efficient, always checking how we liked our drinks,food, etc. my friend and I got the lychee martini, which was delicious! The customer service is horrible. I waited 20min and the server never gave us a menu. I went inside and asked for one. They handed me one and I proceeded to go back to my outside table. The woman stopped me and said" Take this paper one instead ". Truly if everyone sitting in the outside tables had a paper menu then I would understand this is their policy. I went to have Sushi here on my lunch break Tuesday and arrived at 11:45. I was greeted and my waitress brought waters. I told my waitress I was waiting for a co-worker. My co-worker arrived 5 minutes later. The waitress never came back. She looked over several times and diverted to other tables. She only had 1 table of 4 when I got there but served 3 additional tables as we waited. Another waiter stood on the wall and looked at us the entire time and never came over. We finally left at 12:15. I spoke to the hostess who I think was the manager and told her what happen and she said she probably didn't want to disturb you and your co-worker!!! Waited over 40 minutes for a small carry out order that we were told would take 20 minutes. I was personally in the store for over 20 minutes And all of the food sat on the counter, including hot cooked food, fried food and sushi, all in the same bag for those 20 minutes. Great little sushi place right next to a bunch of shops. Had the buy one get one free sushi roll special with my girlfriend. We each got a specialty roll. I got the Himalayan which was pretty big. The roll was really good and had a lot of flavor not too fishy but the fish wasn't overpowered by the ingredients either. We also got some fried rice which was really good. I just want to say that this is the most amazing Sushi restaurant in Raleigh NC. No doubt the service was amazing!! I ordered the nagiri and shrimp tempura roll meal. I called to inform the restaurant that I wanted sashimi instead of nigiri with my meal. When the order arrived it was an entirely different meal missing the shrimp tempura roll so I called the restaurant to inform them of the missing item. the manager then proceeded to argue with me and tell me i would have to pay extra for my missing items and then eventually hung up on me. i will NEVER order from here again and wouldn't recommend anyone else order from here either. absolutely irresponsible. read more

Not impressed. Our Sushi took FOREVER, and the service was terrible. It took us two and a half hours from start to finish because of this. After waiting about 45 minutes for our sushi to come out, some of it was wrong and had to be remade. Our water glasses were constantly empty throughout our meal. At one point we had to ask the manager for water. She was more worried about getting tables bussed and re-sat that she didn't even go get us water OR tell our server after we asked. Our server also forgot multiple times to bring things we asked for such as appetizer plates, sauces, drinks, etc. She never pre bussed anything off of our table, by the time we got our check, our salad bowls were still sitting in a pile on the table. This was the second chance I gave this place, and nothing has changed. We will not be back. Once again, will stick to Sushi O or Sushi Blues. read more

I stopped by for sushi one night. I was excited to try this place out. They had a buy-one-get-one-half-off sushi roll special, so two rolls cost about $20. It was more expensive than the BOGO places, and I thought the quality of the sushi was about the same or a little worse. The place was almost empty on a Wednesday night, and they turned the music off at 9pm (a sign to leave? 9pm isn't very late in my book). I ordered two rolls--two of the about five rolls on the whole menu that weren't fried or had tempura shrimp. I'm still amazed at the ratio of fried to not fried sushi I find in Raleigh. They were okay--the presentation was pretty, but the sushi itself seemed pretty bland. The freshness of the fish didn't stand out, and the combinations in the rolls weren't something unique or that I'd go back for. I told the waiter that I'm allergic to salmon, so the only fish I got in my sushi and sashimi was tuna. Very little flavor but fresh. I did order the sea enchant. I've dined here two or three times for lunch, and will not be returning. The restaurant itself is nice and clean and my servers have always been very nice, but the other issues have soured me on this place. Prices are fairly cheap if you do a lunch special or the BOGO, but the rolls fall apart when you pick them up (not rolled skillfully) and the quality of the product is not good. I have also tried the red curry chicken (terribly oily) and the Singapore noodles with shrimp (overcooked protein). What really got me with this place was the management, If there is an issue at your table, rather than coming to address it, they use the servers as carrier pigeons, which really rubbed me the wrong way. The place is also never crowded, even when the rest of Lafayette Village is packed (and not a parking spot to be found). I would be surprised if it is still here in a year. The big problem i had is when i ordered shrimp from the nigiri sushi menu, the shrimp smelled bad and tasted so bad that i went to the restroom to spit it out. The part that upset me was the manager insisted the food was fine and i must have ordered the wrong item and reluctantly removed it from the bill after we complained. We will never go back. We used a Living Social coupon as an excuse to try this sushi place for the first time. It was very clean, quiet, but also somewhat dark. Server was polite and helpful, though was sometimes hard to find (the restaurant was not busy). Bang bang shrimp was pretty good. Hot and sour soup was fresh...and hot. Sushi was pretty good, considering we're in Raleigh and not close to the pacific, but not even close to something like Nobu. I loved the Sweet Dragon and enjoyed the mochi. We'll probably be back, but it's a little pricey without the Living Social coupon. ;-) read more

We went to chocolate boutique after (see review). We waited at the bar for our table. Bartender took a good little minute to get our drinks to us, Lychee -Tini, Mai Tai, and Coco Loco. House liquor is fairly low grade. Worth it to order up in my opinion. Ordered dynamite shrimp for appetizer. Very delicious. Non-breaded fried shrimp in a rather tasty creamy hot sauce. Special rolls ordered: Himalayan, Snow Mountain, Volcano, Geisha. All perfectly delicious, ESPECIALLY for BOGO. I would have given Sushi One a 5 if the service would have been a wee bit better.
