Beautiful little restaurant. Many varieties of sushi, which different levels of price scales

I was fairly disappointed in this place. I guess I had higher expectations based on the pics. I ordered Rainbow, Spider, and Taste of Japan or Koi? I couldn't remember the third roll... either way, I felt like there was just too much rice... They rolled the sushi in a way that there's overlapping layers of rice, not sure if it's to make it look bigger or because there wasn't enough to put inside... That was the main complaint. Other than that, this was the first Spider that came with a Ponzu sauce, I wasn't sure if it was meant for the spider but it came in the same box... and there was no eel sauce. I went with it anyway. Wait wasn't bad and service was okay. The sushi was alittle below average. If you're on a budget, want good pics, and don't really care about quality, this might be for you. read more

First impressions are everything & upon walking in, I was not impressed. IMO, outside doesn't match the inside. My boyfriend and I were extremely skeptical and almost did an about face & walked out. The inside can use updating. There's handwritten signs for the restroom which the door is behind what appears to be a sheet. The booth I sat in had a fake cherry blossom tree behind it that's too close so it kept poking in the head. It was uncomfortable to have to sit forward in the chair so it wouldn't keep happening. We ordered a 1/2 carafe of green apple sake. A half carafe is the size of a mimosa carafe so I'm not sure how small a large sake is The hot sake was served lukewarm. It may have been bc it took about 10 mins to reach our table after it was ordered. The Sapporo that was ordered came out right away. We asked the same to be reheated. The waitress was really nice and brought the carafe back out heated to the correct temperature. They have an abundance of sushi & sashimi. We ended up getting one of those combos with a tuna roll. All of the fish was fresh & tasty. For the amount of food we had it was a good price. Unsure I'd return though. read more

The food was good. We had shrimp udon, teriyaki chicken hibachi, and Thai tea. The food was fresh and flavorful. It's not the best hibachi in the area but it wasn't bad, I could have used more vegetables. The portions are good enough for the price considering its location. The look of the establishment is not fancy by any means, no need to dress up. You could easily miss the place if you didn't know about it. The booth seating was uncomfortable as you sank into them. The ambiance could use some refreshing, I would compare the vibe to a Chinese takeout restaurant. There was only one other couple there on a Saturday afternoon so it seems they do a lot of takeout orders. It's located downtown Summerville and parking is available. Lunchtime midweek. Only a couple tables from 1200 to 100. Greeted at door by a gentleman who tells us the booths are brand new. Maybe that's why it wobbled so much!! Ha. Ordered a hibachi chicken with veggies and no rice. Honestly, this was a pretty disappointing meal. I didnt take a pic. My fault. Chicken was little scrap bits about as big as the end of your (normsl sized) thumb. Veggies were mushy, scare, and frozen. Barely covered the plate so obviously rice is expected to be the filler. Major letdown for $16. However BFF said the sushi was good. So stick to sushi and you might be ok. Service was great. Apparently with new booths, they are proudly working on the decor. I placed a pickup order, and after getting home and trying to eat it, we noticed the tuna that was supposed to be raw wasn't. We ordered the spicy calamari, Flying Dragon, Heartbreaker, and Dynamite rolls. The sushi tasted like it wasn't fresh--almost like day-old sushi. If you're thinking about giving this place a try, I recommend you think again... I dined at Sushi 201 on a Friday night and was met with a little wait, which I was more than ok with. Once seated, the table enjoyed hot green apple sake. As an appetizer I ordered the hibachi vegetables. When the appetizer arrived it look bleh- the vegetables appeared soggy. After taking a bite I realized my eyes did not deceive me and the vegetables were VERY soggy and not fresh. My thoughts are that the vegetables used were previously frozen. As an entree I ordered two sushi rolls: the rainbow and kamikaze rolls. The rainbow roll was the worst sushi I have ever had, the fish tasted old and the roll was lacking flavor even with soy sauce. The kamikaze roll was decent, but nothing to write him about. The atmosphere is casual but a little dated. Food is served on plastic dishes and you're given a plastic fork and chop sticks to eat with. I would like to note that the service was fantastic, so that is why I am giving the establishment 2 stars instead of 1. read more

So I left my phone at home and wasn't able to get pictures so I'll do my best to talk about my experience in detail. At first glance walking in the place could definitely use some updates because it was a bit dull and decor was outdated. There weren't many tables in there but I chose to sit at the bar in front of the sushi chef. I placed my order right away with my server Jillian. She was very nice, but had to ask me several times what I ordered but it was what it was. I got miso soup which was only $2.50! That's what I'm talking about for a deal. It did come out just above Luke warm, which is how I like to eat my soup TBH I know for majority of people it would not be hot enough. I got the eel roll and the shrimp shumai dumplings. I could tell they don't make those in house, but I gotta tell you, whatever brand they were was so good. I loved the texture of them and inhaled them. The eel roll was standard, nothing crazy and straight to the point. I enjoyed them and ate everything. It was the perfect amount of food for me. In total it was $20, which I found to be very reasonable. Jillian checked on me from time to time and it seems that they do a lot of take out business here compared to guests who dine in. Overall it was a solid experience, I would say if you're expecting anything fancy you will be disappointed. But for a small local spot in downtown Summerville that's affordable was good enough for me. read more

This place is so good I had to come a second time this week. This time, it was me and my sister. She ordered the shrimp bowl, and it was a healthy helping of food. She couldn't even eat it all. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento lunch box. That was also a hefty amount of food. I took the rest home for dinner. The food was hot and fresh and I enjoyed it more than the first visit! Once again, it was not crowded, and the employees were very pleasant! And if you like sweet tea, honey! Their sweet tea is bomb! I've found my new hang out spot! We usually get take out from this restaurant but today we decided to dine in. Our take out experience from this restaurant is always bomb. We probably did like 8 times and not a single time we are not satisfied. Tori katsu is always on point. Super crispy and the chicken is seasoned. The sauce is sooo flavorful and sweet which gives it a good boost. It is served hot and fresh out of the fryer. My husband told me what he thinks about the teriyaki. He said that the taste is straightforward, sweet and salty. It was the perfect combination for his fried rice. We got the wontons as appetizers before I forget and my toddler loves them more than we did. Filling is super creamy and light. Perfect to start the meal with. We will definitely be back. read more

I was really excited to come here on mothers day. Ive been looking for an authentic japanese restaurant for a long time moving from a northern state with culture and diversity being embraced. I finally found this place that said they served donburi which is a rice bowl that come in different varieties such as oyako don katsu don etc. the menu saying donburi is very misleading because what is listed under that is not donburi. Not impressed. Most (but not all?) of our meal was brought to us at the table (dining in) in go boxes for an $80 meal. Caught off guard by this at 1st so we asked for plates, still got the rest boxed. Pretty sure not covid related, just wanted to get dishes done. (7pm on a slow Sunday but open til 9 for reference. Maybe that's why...) Why display ur product like this if you don't have to? Hard to enjoy when ur let down at 1st impression. So i really wanted this place to be amazing. The hibachi food was just really bland.. no real flavoring?! The sushi my friend ordered wasn't the best and wasn't the worst she ever had. Food was mediocre. Honestly, not anything to write home about. Did not taste amazing. Considering reviews I had higher hopes for this place . Service was same, MEDIOCRE. Server was too busy worrying about a bigger party than paying attention to smaller groups. Really made it feel less inviting. Not as many servers working for the amount for people in the restaurant. Wait times longer than expected. Edamame was cold, came about 40 secs before my food. So much for an appetizer. Most likely won't be back.. I'd try other places twice before I try this place again. Love the service and the food! The owner is fantastic and the food is right up there with him! I usually get a teriyaki chicken with a California roll and a salad. It all went downhill the second we sat at our booth and the seat support was broken. I immediately sank 2 inches and so did my wife, the booth had been broken for awhile seeing how worn in they were. The silver wear was wrapped nicely but a little to overdone with a blank plastic fork. Still trying to give it a shot. Ordered a pork bun, just the way it came out screamed microwave. Bottom was hard as rock, sides steamed but the meat was green with no barbecue sauce Sushi, we ordered 4 speciality roles. 2 were covered in sauce to the point that is all you tasted. Only been here once with a group of 5, and ironically none of us had sushi,, although it did look very good! My stepdad lived in Japan for a bit and they made a Don bowl specifically for him off the menu after they chatted a bit and saw that he clearly "gets it" haha. It took a little while to get our food, but it was a packed house that evening. Everything was super hot and fresh, a little on the small portion size but still reasonably priced. Much to the delight of all the diners was one family who allowed their children to run wild and crazy throughout the restaurant. This did last about 25 minutes and was a nuisance, but they were wrapping up and did head out. I really wanted to like this place - I looked up the reviews and thought ah well let's give it a shot... My boyfriend brought home takeaway plate of three specialty rolls. The tuna lovers, the koi and the cooked salmon I can't remember the name. It looked great, but the quality wasn't there. I had a couple of bites, but it didn't taste fresh - the fish was mushy and started to make me gag every time I tried to eat one. It had that old grocery store sushi flavor. My boyfriend ended up eating the majority of it and he had an upset stomach for a few days afterwards. I also had an upset stomach from the 3 pieces I consumed. It was very expensive too, around 40 dollars for 3 rolls and a tummy ache. I guess we'll have to drive to mount p every time we want sushi, still haven't been able to find a good one in summerville. read more

The food was not great but it was good. Customer service was terrible our waitress barley talked to us. We went at 7 pm and they closed at 9. However we felt rushed because everything was in take out trays. Also heads up if you want the house salad it is just lettuce and carrots, there are no other toppings. Not a great experience. ($3.50 for a bud light bottle) a bit expensive to me. Ordered beef tataki which came out ice cold. That told me they had it either in a freezer or fridge and didn't just sear it like they're supposed to. Took it back. The Terryaki was not the best quality, kind of like what you would expect from a buffet or mall. The salad roll was extremely basic and lack luster. Great location and great happy hour sushi prices! This is a great place to go after work for a bite to eat. While the atmosphere isn't the greatest and the bathrooms are a bit dirty and oddly located, the sushi was good! The generic rolls were a little bland but their special ones were very flavorful and they put work into the presentation which I find nice. Our server left our drinks empty for a while which was a bit annoying because there was only one other table in The restaurant at the time. Service is hot or miss and decor inside is a little dated and strange but great sushi for the price at happy hour. Not sure yet if I would pay full price for the sushi. I'll have to try it again before I can make that choice! read more

The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 star review is because the waitress was nice. Last night after coming home, I realized I didn't feel well at all. I then had food poisoning all night and still this morning. I'm not sure if y'all lost power from the storm but if you used bad fish, shame on y'all. Stopped in for some dinner, we've ate here several times in the past and love their sister restaurant sushi 101 as well. The food is cnnsistlenty great every time I've ever ate here. The staff is always friendly and good service. Came in with three people. I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi with a salad and onion soup. It was delicious as always. The other two ordered just the steak hibachi and loved their food as well. Also the sweet tea is great, especially in the sweet tea capital. The atmosphere is laid. Back and nice, especially when it's not crowded. Also just enjoy hanging out in downtown Summerville. Such a great atmosphere and people are always friendly. Would have gave it 5 stars but I always reserve that rating for phenomenal experiences. Thanks guys for another great meal!! read more

Grea customer service. Food was wonderful. My friends and I made this our go to restaurant because of our repeated wonderful experiences.

Ordered a roll and a salad for pick up. Was told my order would be ready in 10 minutes. I arrived for pick up and was told it would be another twenty minute wait. I finally arrived home and discovered my order was incorrect. Spent another 15 minutes on the phone trying to get my refund and finally gave up. Not worth the headache!! read more
