All of the very experienced vets at this office are exceptionally caring and just go an extra mile to assure my aging dog is getting the best care possible. The only notable negative I've found is their positive reputation may be causing them to be a little too popular; most times I've visited they've been very busy and I usually need to book out at least a few weeks in advance if I want a weekend or late day appointment. Also in my experience when I've gone to a scheduled appointment I often have to wait a bit past my actual scheduled time to be seen. The wait area is pretty small but the staff is happy to come out to your car and check you in there if you would like to wait in your car. Also there's a decently large grass area to walk/relieve your dog if needed. That said, I feel any small hiccups are worth it as the staff clearly cares about providing the best care possible for all their clients and pets. Every staff member and Veterinarian I've spoken to there has always been very patient, helpful and informative during my visits. Would highly recommend to anyone needing high quality veterinarian care.

I brought in a young female cat who was a stray I found. She went in for an eye injury consult, rabies vaccine, and a few other tests such as a fecal exam. They said she tested positive for coccidia, an intestinal parasite. She was very small, with a round belly, and big pink nipples- showing all the signs of pregnancy. Despite her eye injury, she was very healthy looking and eating. I let both the vet tech (an incredibly rude blonde girl) and Dr. Dugan know that I thought she could be pregnant, and he said he was suspicious as well but we didn't do an x-ray or ultrasound that day. Dr. Dugan prescribed her Albon, a medication for coccidia. He didn't speak of the side effects and only said to give it to her to treat the coccidia. I do as prescribed and over the next few days she's pooping mucus, blood, and water. Barely eating. I look up the medication and if it's safe for pregnant cats, and the first thing says to not give it to pregnant cats. I call them and Dr. Dugan is not in, and I'm told by another vet that not treating the coccidia will hurt her and the kittens more than taking it. So I continue giving her the medication because I tried to trust in their advice. This morning I found my cat will two almost full term, healthy looking kittens. Both did not make it. As heartbreaking at that is, I know the world doesn't need more cats. But I can't stop thinking that if I hadn't given her the medication, she would have had kittens in a couple weeks. There is a feral cat colony in my neighborhood that has kittens running around, all looking seemingly healthy. I'm sure all these cats have coccidia as well. I wish this place would have been more informative on the medication prescribed or taken her pregnancy more seriously. Maybe if they had done this, my cat wouldn't have lost her babies.

I have only used this veterinarian once. My 16 year old cat started having some alarming symptoms…read moreone night, around midnight. I rushed her to the emergency vet, and they got her right in. They took her to the back and examined her. They came back with the news that they believed she had had a stroke. They told me they could do some extensive testing just to be sure, or we could do the humane thing and let her go. They left me in an exam room to think things over. After calling my mom to talk things through, I decided what was best was to let my dear cat go. They brought her into the exam room and brought her out of the sedation they had needed to give her in order to examine her, giving me some last moments alone with my beloved fur baby. When I told them I was ready, they gave her the injection. They asked me if I was going to cremate her or bury her, I told them I planned on burying her in my yard. They said to pull my car up to the door, and they would be out with her shortly. A few minutes later they came out with my cat in a nice cardboard casket, taped shut. I took her home and buried her. About a week later, I got a card in the mail from this practice. It was a sympathy card, signed by all the staff, and included several copies of my cat's pawprint.

I have been a long time patient at Yadkin Veterinary Hospital, but due to the long drive and lack…read moreof availability, we decided to try Oldtown and have been very satisfied! Dr. Jarvis saw our cat, Bert, in an emergency when he had to have a tooth extracted. We felt that in the emergency situation the price was very reasonable and they were able to fix the issue quickly and we've had no further problems! Most recently we took a stray cat that showed up at our house to get a check up, and I was very impressed. Emma was the tech who took care of us and she had a great bedside manner. Very sweet and down to earth. We really enjoyed her! We had also been to Dr. Eads at Shallowford Animal Hospital previously and I felt that he REALLY upcharged me for unnecessary things (a senior panel for my 3 year old cat, landing a routine check up at about $700) so I was afraid of that here, especially because the stray had no medical history. A full vaccination and checkup was about $160 which I find to be very reasonable. They also provided an estimate for a spay/neuter, which I appreciate and was also very reasonable. Dr. Meyer came in to give us the report after his examination and she was very kind, explained everything well, as well as answering any questions/concerns we had. I felt very satisfied that they were thorough in their assessment of our cat. The facility was very clean. At the time of this review (1/15/21) they are asking patients to wait outside in their cars until their room is available. We only waited about 5 minutes and we were allowed to come into the room (masks are required in the building!). They do the exams in the back, but it was very fast.

I adore Dr. Strickland as he was so kind to me when I had to let my Moey go. But this practice has really gone downhill. They don't even offer boarding services any longer. What is going on? I am looking for a new vet as I type this.
