Wow. Nice to know nothing has changed. :-) I read all the old reviews about Surgicare refusing to work with your insurance and it validates my experience. They informed me that "my claim was denied". My insurance company has no record of the request. I called Surgicare and their horrid customer service in India gives me one excuse after another and eventually tells me that after we're done using the equipment, they will bill the insurance co. Just echoing what most have already said: this place is a complete shake-down. They billed me $21 for the lowest quality arm brace after shoulder surgery. It fell apart after 3 days and I had to buy another one at CVS, that was half the price and I could hang a bowling ball in it. After Surgi-Care billed our insurance for everything but knee brace and crutches, they send us the bill for these items rather than billing our insurance. But we have confirmed with BCBS that these items are covered by our plan. Surgi-care flat refuses to bill our plan. This is nuts. We are not going to pay them what our insurance plan will pay if Surgi-care simply submits bill. Heartless stupid Surgi-Care employee simply hangs up the phone when we try to help her with insurance info they already have used to receive payment for everything but knee brace and crutches. read more

Worst company I have dealt with in a long time. They refuse to confirm I have met my OOP for the year with my insurance company and keep telling me I have to pay over $500.00 for a brace my insurance company is going to pay in full. I can't find anyone with any authority to correct this and they are telling me my insurance company is lying to me and no one can help me. So frustrated and angry. I broke my fibula on May 4 2024. At the walk-in clinic, I was x-rayed and then given an AIRSELECT STD WALKING BOOT size medium with the procedure code of L4361. I looked at my Explanation of Benefits and saw that surgi-care billed Medicare for $408.00; the amount approved was $406.17. My plan shows I am responsible for 20% which meant my bill from surgi-care was for $81.23. As all the other reviewers have stated, you can find this identical boot online for $79.00, $79.58, $83.48 depending on which website you choose. Surgi-care is billing FIVE TIMES the actual cost of the boot. How can this situation be remedied as this company is robbing the system blind. Also, if you want to pay online, their website is not secured so you risk having your credit card information stolen. read more

They greatly inflate the prices of devices (which they do not make) to provide to patients through hospitals and doctor offices. My insurance was billed several hundred dollars for an aircast brand walking boot which costs $89 on amazon (exact same product). I was also given a large brace despite being only 5' so it was much too big but was told it was the only one available. They also have terrible customer service. They had the wrong address on file for me despite all of my doctors having the correct address, so I never received a bill, but they then sent my information to a collection agency for lack of payment. I have no been trying to get them to re-send me the bill to establish a papertrail and after 2 weeks and multiple calls, still do not have a bill. It is a scam that hospitals use this company. They have a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau. read more

In an ER? In pain and or heavily medicated? You are the perfect target for Surgi-Care! Braces and such are brought out and presented by hospital staff they fit you for it, and then say you just have to sign right here. GUESS WHAT! ON THE BACK s the charges, they only show you they sheet that needs a signature, ONly after you get home, and recover do you look at the paperwork. $75 for a brace you can get on Amazon for $15. Fuck these people with a crutch. They are part of the problem. I wonder what happens when the victims of refuse to pay. Then it goes to collections. Then a person would ask for copies of the paperwork and signature. THEN you relaize it is all PHI, and can't be shared with a collection agency, so it either gets squashed or they bring you to court, where one pissed off person could think a class actoin lawsuit would be fun. read more

They wouldn't remove a $15 late fee even though I paid 2 weeks after receiving my bill. They claim that they sent one earlier, but I never got it. First the lady told me they "couldn't" remove a late fee because it was "on my account," and when I responded that there's always a way to remove fees from accounts, she changed her mind and told me that they "were not going to" remove the fee. This outfit is crooked as the day is long!! They supply devices to UMASS general. If for any reason your insurance doesn't pay for them you are responsible. BUT, the issue is you are charged at insurance level astronomical markups. My soft cast boot was charged for 367.00. THE exact same boot with exact product numbers costs 78.00 on Amazon and many other sites. They don't care and say you were given a prescription thus it costs more?? While you're in the emergency room (in pain) a rep? makes you sign a waiver saying you will pay for it and agree. You don't read the microfont statement while on a check-out table. When you call Surgicare they are extremely rude, unapproachable, don't call back, and ultimately send your bill in question to a debt collector within two months. Absolute garbage company. Scammed into buying subpar brace from these hucksters: $105.00. Same exact cheap item on Amazon for 18.95. And people wonder why insurance companies have to keep raising rates. Garbage brace they gave me dug into my foot for 2 days. The third day it broke- entire strap held together w a dot of glue. I had to buy another on Amazon that was far superior. A 5 year old could make a more durable product in crafts class. Lesson learned: NEVER accept what docs offer for braces or other items- buy independantly for better quality and better prices. read more

Wow, I got an appointment super fast. The problem - they double booked the technician. The technician was running 1/2 hour late. The person that I shared the appointment with was coming back because her orthotics were not working. This did not inspire confidence. I left without ever seeing anyone. read more
