It would be very easy to take me for a ride when it comes to car stuff. I walked in here after work and told them I'd like an oil change and put my key on the counter. I then realized this was my first oil change in my life when they said they were about a week out for those appointments. I made my appointment and they were done within 90 minutes, just as they'd said. They also did an inspection and took a photo of my drivers serpentine belt, which was showing a lot of cracks. This is also when I realized that inspections aren't required in Washington! Anyway, I asked if it was an emergency to fix and they said I had lots of time. Then I asked if I would know if it had broken...they politely said yes, and explained that I would know. I was back the next week to fix the belt and they had it done even earlier than they'd said- dropped it off at 845 and done at 1:30! They informed me again that I have several recalls on the car that should be taken care of at the dealership. I really appreciate their service. read more

I purchased a late model vehicle that was in good condition, but I wanted to get an objective overview from a mechanical standpoint. Superior offers an inspection service that checks all the operating system for a reasonable very price of $70. This inspection provided me with a road map to safety items that may need attention soon or minor repairs that wait a bit. I appreciated the service and the fast turn around. read more

I've been to a lot of shops in Seattle. Superior Auto is number 1. I recently had my transmission in my Mazda 3 seemingly die, putting me out of commission in a week where I absolutely needed my car. The Superior staff took my car the next day, diagnosed it was my failing transmission control module. They got an OEM replacement part and had my car back the same day, saving me from prolonged frustration. Communication from the frontline staff was excellent. They explained my options, pricing, and called me immediately when the job was complete. My wife brought in her car when the check engine light came on. Superior charged us $1000 and couldn't figure out what the issue was. We took the car to the dealer and they read the code and told us it was a recall issue and fixed the car for free. I thought I'd give them another chance. I brought in my truck and again I was charged $1000 for a new part that they said was broken. The truck did not work after they replaced the part. They told me another part was broken and needed replacing, a very expensive part. They told me to take the truck to another mechanic who fixed the problem. Superior miss diagnosed both the issues and it cost me $1000. The owner never offered an apology or any sympathy for my issues, instead he was argumentative. I won't take any of my vehicles or recommend this business to anyone. read more

This was my second service request with Superior. I came back because the first time they were very pleasant to work with, Barb was very communicative with me in the process of the vehicle being service. With my second visit they did a thorough analysis of the problem and determined it wasn't a repair they could address, which was the CVT transmission. But what they did do that I very much appreciate was reduce the diagnostic fee by 50%. NEVER GO TO SUPERIOR AUTO IN BALLARD!!! Refused service on my car because I asked the owner to talk to me instead of my dad and told him it was rude to ignore me when it was my car and I'm the one who brought it in and was paying the bill (obviously as a woman I don't know my own phone number, my dad knows it better, duh) and he LITERALLY REFUSED to give me an oil change unless i was 'polite' to him. He didn't even try to understand me(his customer of years), his first response was to refuse service! I told him we had been going there for years and he told me he did not need my business.THIS WAS THE OWNER. This isn't the first time he has been rude to me, and I usually Ignore it because his staff is so nice. I told him this and he said he didn't care. Fighting the patriarchy is fucking exhausting. Don't go here, they will mansplain you! Never before have I felt more confident my mechanic wasn't out to take advantage of me. This place is excellent. They are patient, offer very fast service and point out problems that need work without the over-the-top pressure other places put on customers. This time I went in for a routine winter tire swap and was informed my brakes need service. I wasn't told I was driving a death mobile or that they needed service ASAP. Instead the guys took photos, showed me the extent of the wear, gave me multiple estimates (one for front, back, and both) and allowed me to make the decision with zero pressure. Fast service from first phone call to picking up my car. I called SAS last Monday afternoon because my 2000 4Runner was running rough, no acceleration & hesitating when I'd step on the gas from a stop. Keith said I could drop my car off that night & they'd take a look on Tuesday. They recommended new spark plugs & wires as well as head cover gaskets, which I'd known about & had put off for a couple years. They also quoted me to fix my non-functioning rear wiper and window. The quote was more than fair for three fairly substantial repair jobs. I OK'd all work on Tuesday afternoon, and was very happy to have our 4Runner back & running so much better at the end of the day Wednesday, barely 48 hours after my first phone call to the shop. I've been taking my two 4Runners to Superior Auto Service for 4+ years now after hopping around to several shops and not finding the right one. I've found it, and I'm sticking with them. These guys have always been great in pretty much every way. - They're thorough. In the routine check during an oil change on my new truck, they found some minor issues that the Toyota dealership garage missed in a paid buyer's inspection. - They're honest. When they tell me about issues they find, they don't push me to do them prematurely. I know enough about my cars that I can at least check many problems to confirm they're correctly diagnosed, and I know roughly how long jobs should take. They have always given me accurate information, and charged for a reasonable amount of labor. - They do good work, and don't overcharge. They've solved every issue I've taken my cars in for, the first time. They use quality parts and their prices are fair (I always get estimates for big jobs from multiple shops). If there's a shortcut that can save you money without sacrificing quality, they will tell you about it. If you need a trustworthy mechanic, you can't go wrong with these guys. As long as they keep the same high standard of integrity in their practices and their staff, they'll have me as a happy customer for a long time. read more

Being new to the area, I always hate having to find a new car shop to take my car into. I first tried High Road Auto that isn't too far from Superior Auto, and did not enjoy my visit there. So with another quick Yelp search, I came across this place. So far I have taken my car in twice here and have had great experience with the service they provide. Things I have gotten: - oil change - car inspection - fixed broken lights This place doesn't give you a laundry list of things to be fixed (but really don't). If something does need attention, they will tell you. I took my car in last week to get my back tail light changed and an interior map light changed and it was under $15.
