I've been going to Victor since Grammar school back in 1983 when I attended West Portal Lutheran. Wow that is 27 years ago. He is a very wonderful person and also an exceptional hair stylist. I remember the days of $8 haircuts and now with tip, I pay close to $25. I will only go to Victor and if you want to have him cut your hair, you need to call early to check his availability. 9 times out of 10, if you try to do a walk-in a couple of hours after opening, he will be booked up for the day. Yes people, he is that good. I honestly think that he should open his own salon. I am sure that many, many customers will agree with me. He is definitely THE hairstylist that makes this Supercuts tick. My hat goes off to you Victor but as long as my hair grows, you will be the only one to cut my hair. read more

Before going into this Supercuts I read up on some of the reviews. Everyone that had posted something positive recommended Victor. Sooo.. I took their advice! I called ahead of time and asked if I could come in around noon. When I got there Victor greeted me with a smile, and sat me down after a few minutes. I showed him a picture of what I wanted, and went straight to work. Since I have short hair it only took about 10 - 15 minutes. He was very thorough and did an amazing job with my hair. Did I mention that he's super friendly? A+ TL;DR -- Victor is awesome, and you should have him cut your hair. read more

Seriously with all of the Professional Salons on Irving, Judah, Taraval, and West Portal, WHY would anyone come here? Ridiculous price for their limited services & Micky Mouse work! I came here a few times & was thoroughly dissapointed. I wanted the sides of my head shaved (I've a mohawk) & each time I requested a double Zero & they only used a zero. For some REASON they don't give me the shave that I want and it is irritating, especially since they are bloody expensive. I wanted a Very clean shave & for $20 they didnt give me what I requested! There are much better places way cheaper in Castro/Mission - I was just desperate when I used SuperCuts for convenience & maintenance reasons. Ill never go to any of em again! Their 'Hair Cutters' seem to lack technique, individuality, and personality. Its like they are cutting by the instructions of a book. Taking steps and reading manuals. It's hard to find a good hair stylist these days expecially ones that are consistent everytime you go in. Since moving to San Fran, I've been always particular about my hair, the first three times here were terrible, I had one that almost shaved my head, one that cut my ear, and one that didn't understand what I wanted. These are some of my problems, until I found her. She works extremely hard taking her time cutting my hair, shampoo it, and message it. It's almost better than chocolate or the one I'm not going to mention, it's just fantastic! Although, the prices has been increasingly a dollars every two to three months lately, I still come twice a month for my cool dew! ps. make sure you get the card, for every nine haircuts, you get one free. And make sure you take care of your hair stylist, b/c next time you will get special treatment. read more

I didn't see the reviews before but now I get it! WORSE customer service EVER! How about some basic "I'm sorry for the inconvenience"??? One month ago I went to get a haircut with appointment and ended up waiting 1hour to get an okay haircut and by mistake I ended up signing up in their membership. This second time I made an appointment and based on previous experience I decided to be a few minutes late, guess what? The rude lady with zero customer service and horrible attitude (just like the first time) careless sent me to wait outside for minimum 20 minutes. 4 stars for Victor. I went for a quick trim, 1.5 inches off of my long hair. The split ends were driving me crazy, so I just needed something basic done to make my hair feel healthier. Victor wasn't as thorough as my usual hair stylist in Berkeley, but I am a big fan of what he did for what I needed. No wash, but he was very understanding of my needs and provided a lot of helpful tips for keeping my hair healthy. If I ever wanted something drastic, I'd probably go back to my usual stylist, but for an easy trim and touch up on my hair, I wholeheartedly recommend Victor. I usually don't hang around this area but I was meeting a friend and since my friend was running late, I went to get a haircut since I knew I was due for one. I've always heard of Supercuts but didn't know too much on their reputation so I gave it a try. The shop was cute. They immediately greeted me and there was no wait. Wendy helped me and she understood what I wanted. I don't ask for much but for a trim. I usually go to irving st for my haircut but for all of you that been to irving, you know they cut your hair shorter than you ask for. but for Wendy, she created new layers for me and trimmed it at the right length! Very rare in my occassion. I was very happy with her. During my haircut, the shop had a great atmosphere. everyone was joking around with one another and they seem happy to be there which is what I enjoy watching. I really don't like going to get a haircut, but I kind of had to, so I went to supercuts at west portal. The experience there was overall very pleasant, I didn't have to wait, my hair dresser was a very nice person and most importantly, she did a great job! Worst haircut in a decade, maybe my lifetime. I could have done a better job on myself blindfolded. She did not seem to care at all what my hair looked like afterward. Uneven, carelessly cut, went way too short. Cut my hair so fast it felt unreal. Like I was in a nightmare. I wish I had jumped out of the chair and ran home before she cut the front. I gave a reference picture of my self because I had gone in a few months ago. She cut it way too short and after she had cut it, she went in again cutting it even more. My hair is wavy and I let her know that. Nope she did an A Cut. Something I did not ask for. Way to short in the back. read more

The woman who cut my kids hair was awful! She butchered his hair and did not understand his directions. He asked for one inch off and took over three off. He's 15 so I wasn't watching, but I wish I had been. The cut was not only wrong, but was also uneven. When I saw him I asked if that was what he asked for and he was so upset he couldn't speak. When I confronted the owner about it their was no customer service. I know you go to super cuts for a run of the mill cut, but I could have done a better job and I suck with simple trims. I just got butchered by Maria on 08/17/15. I had a bad feeling when she was going to let me go with uneven sideburns, no texture and no ability to blend clippers and scissors. My normal salon in West Portal was closed Monday and I was desperate or I'd have never set foot in this place since they butchered me once before. You can get a decent haircut here if you are lucky and get a stylist who is not incompetent like Maria, I used to go here till my stylist moved to a real shop like anyone who can cut hair soon does. I tried to point out how bad she was screwing up but she just kept making it worse. I just told her I was done and I'd have my normal stylist fix the damage and the more she did the harder she'd make the job for a competent stylist. My friends comments on the cut was basically "Wow, I can tell the difference between the real stylist you use and the person who cut your hair today." or "She actually charged you for that?" And the answer is yes they did charge me for that. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! You might get a good cut or you might get your hair trashed. If you have a stylist here that has worked for you that is OK but DON'T WALK IN OFF THE STREET! You have a 50-50 chance (or better) of getting a brutal haircut. Final point, they are actually not cheap. There are several places on West Portal that offer a better haircut for less. Supercuts must take a huge cut for the chair so you are paying more for a beauty school person who probably does not know what they are doing. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I edited this review to reflect the percentage of good versus bad haircuts I've gotten and what I got from reading the other reviews. Also, I believe Victor left a long time ago and I think he was the person who gave me the two good haircuts I received here versus the two butcher jobs. Also, I sorted by date and you can tell since Victor left this place has gone downhill. I've been getting my haircut by Dung for a little over 4 months now. He does a really great job at cutting men's hair. He pays attention to detail and really listen to what I want. I've never left dissapointed or feeling bad about the way my hair looks. Some say, "it's time to invest in a Barber," but honestly, Dung does a great job that's on the same quality as a barber without the long wait time and high cost. Awful business. Unless you want a simple trim or bowl cut DO NOT go to this salon. My stylist insisted she "knew what I wanted" after giving her pictures of my previous cut. She had no idea and insists I " looked good" despite my having an obvious uneven side. I do not get my hair cut here, but I frequent this location for hair products. They sell a wide variety of brands at a fair price, and the location is convenient enough. However, today I attempted to return a product that I'd purchased without knowing it smelled like antiseptic. (Yeah, I should have checked the scent before I purchased it, but I was in a hurry -- and I saved my receipt in case I didn't like it.) I walked in to Supercuts, presented the product and receipt and asked if I could merely exchange it for something else. The clerk looked at my receipt and said I'd have to come back next week so the person who sold it to me could "ring it up under her number." Are you kidding me? Seriously? I'm sure this has something to do with the fact that they get commission or something for product sales, but seriously? I have never heard of something so ridiculous, at a hair salon or anywhere else. So yeah, it's Supercuts. Guess I shouldn't have expected much, but now that I know, I will have to find another (albeit less convenient) source for my Bed Head Root Boost. read more

Before coming here, I had never in my life had a 'regular' hairdresser. That all changed when I found...yep, you guessed it... Victor. I now get cuts regularly (every 3 months) and very much look forward to my visits! I have long, wavy hair, and he is great about keeping it long while still getting lots of the dead/ split ends. I always leave with healthier- feeling hair and a cut I love (he gives great suggestions for the style too). In addition, he always gives me free tips on how to keep it healthy and what products I can use. He is also so gentle, that I never want my appointment to end! What's more is that he's a nice person who is fun to talk to. What more could you ask for? I've never had such a great hairdresser experience... Be it at other Supercuts or fancy salons. I also had Wendy cut my hair once when Victor was unavailable, and she was also great! Based on my experiences with both of them, as long as I'm living in SF, I know where to get a great cut. read more

Ughhh...I got a hair cut here a few years back. I waited forever over 45 minutes when they told me they'd be with me "shortly." Then there weren't even any hair mags to look at?! What???? Apparently you have to ask for them because they are in the back or something? Whatever. A Russian lady finally cuts my hair 1 hour later and totally lops off 6 inches of my precious hair. I went in for my semi-annual haircut, and I was super nervous because I always get my hair cut in LA. Anyways, being that it I only cut it twice a year, my tips were nasty: dry, split, rough, and frizzy. ROMELIA delivered the V-shape cut I was looking for. She chopped off about 4". On the sides she cut over 6" and I was dying, but I let her continue. At that moment I was just crying inside and thinking "Why?!?!? WHY did I come here. Maybe Supercuts is as bad as people say" I had to bite my tongue afterwards, bc I noticed it was just to give the 'V' more definition. I was in love. Is there less than 1 star if so this place will be 1st to get it. To explain in 1 line I was in an out of this place in less than 10 mins with a haircut. My "hair stylist" did not use scissors to cut my hair just 2 settings on the trimmer. She started from center of my head so I couldn't even get a chance to tell her it's not what I wanted. She messed it up so bad that I don't even want to go out and show my face. I am sure she wasn't a hair stylist at all but the cashier who decided to cut my hair because everyone else was busy. I did not pay $20 for a trimmer on my head. Even the sides are not even. I didn't want her to touch my hair anymore so I just told her it's fine and left. Honestly if I wanted this kind of haircut I could've went to $5 haircut places. Do not go here!!!!! read more

Always get great haircuts here but how they treat walk-ins can sometimes suck. Example: one time a couple of months I showed up at 8:35am. Only Victor was working. He had an "appointment" and was told I couldn't be helped until next person's shift started at 9:00am. No one showed up for Victor himself until 9. My haircuts takes maybe 10 minutes. I waited for 25 minutes by myself while Victor did nothing. Today I walked in while Muni was having train issues...a little wait no problem. Person calls 10 minutes after I walk in and Victor sets up an appointment for him at 10 am. I already being there should have had priority over any appointments made after I checked in. Person shows up at 9:50am and he is taken care of first. How frustrating. In the end the extra wasn't much but it's not the point. It's about the service received leading up to the point I was in the chair. It was very poor. -2 stars just for that. read more

We love Nina. She does a great job working with my teenagers. She really helps my son to figure out how to look stylish and cool, and is able to give my daughter whatever trendy haircut she is looking for this time. I don't know how long we will get to have the benefit of Nina, but I'm getting my next haircut from her too. My nose is wrinkling as I type... I had to wait A very long time just to get a very bad bad bad bad haircut! I probably waited 30 minutes even though there was hardly anyone there! Maybe the person who cut my hair was new or something because I heard from a friend that victor was very good, but this one DEFINITELY wasn't! First of all, she didn't speak english and when I finally thought she got the idea, she cut my bangs so I looked like Dora the explorer! I've come here for the occasional hair cut, it's close to my house and is convenient for a quick haircut. The quality is quite often terrible but there are enough ok haircuts to keep me coming back. I'm a man with a standard man's haircut, a bad hair cut lasts only weeks. Coming here for anything beyond a basic haircut should NOT be attempted. Stylish women will never be spotted in here. The reason I give it 1 star now, however, is because the service is in the crapper. I sat for 45 minutes today without an employee even acknowledging me... I finally left. I say go elswhere. My last Supercuts experience was good, so I was hopeful. I should have known that the one in Pacific Heights likely has higher standards. The first bad sign was that SHE STARTED CUTTING MY HAIR WITHOUT PUTTING AN APRON (or whatever they're called) ON ME! I HAD TO REMIND HER TO GRAB ONE! From there it was a long process of pulling hairs out, repeatedly stabbing my (rather small and out of the way) mole and generally making it unpleasant. I even gave her a picture for reference, but ended with something that didn't at all resemble the picture. I realize that different people have different hair and some styles just aren't an option for certain people, but it wasn't even cut to the same length, nor did she attempt to style it to look the same. I'll probably be going somewhere to get the front fixed which she left significantly longer than the rest, which (again) was not part of the reference picture. Do yourself a favor, skip this spot. It only gets the second star because of the price. read more

He always makes my hair look fabulous and he understands curly hair and how it needs to be cut. Tammy, the manager was supposed to cut my hair and she claimed to be a professional for 20 years. I am a female and I asked for a simple haircut to cut my hair straight on the back . I showed her pictures and very many examples. Still did not understand and did not communicate with me instead interrupt me while I was explaining my hair style from my old photos. She insisted on not cutting my hair after being very simple with her, and she had called my boyfriend over to try to communicate with her to try to understand the haircut. My boyfriend did not understand why she could not do the simple haircut, as we had scheduled appointments and was not a matter of time. I felt dehumanized after this experience because she cut my boyfriends haircut perfectly fine, but as soon as I went to ask for a simple strait haircut (for a female); it seemed like she did not want to listen, and interrupted both me and my boyfriend.
