She uses grey area arguing to justify her reasons. If management gave 2 dumps about not closing shop, I highly reccomend ridding yourself of this woman. The owner pledges "speaking with the team & holding a standard" for months and yet people continuously complain about her mental state whilst holding scissors. It's scary. Do not come here! I took my 80 year old mom here today for a haircut as her husband's funeral is this Wednesday. It was important to get a nice cut. We requested a shampoo and cut. Natelie (the stylist) whined and said "Aww you WANT a shampoo or need a shampoo. Which one?" I said both. She did it but then barely tried to style the cut. When we got home only then did I see that it wasn't even in the back, a huge chunk was taken out of the back! Also, she wouldn't print a receipt for me. She told me to take a picture of her computer screen. What the heck?! Lastly, she turned away a woman who came in with her daughter asking if she had time to do a kid's cut. This feedback is for the franchise owner/manager. I tried to reach someone directly instead of a yelp review but was not able to do so. 1. Yuka and Victor are wonderful. The first photo is of Yuka giving my son a haircut. 2. Romelia requires training before cutting children's hair. I know her service is not the standard for this salon or any salon. I cant speak for her skills providing service to adults. Today, we made an appointment for an adult and a child, both for 11am. They were running a little behind but no problem. Stylist Romelia took the customer who arrived last. Perhaps an honest mistake but she continued with this customer even when Yuka pointed out that there were customers before her. It should be noted that the customer Romelia took was the only female customer at this point (shampoo + cut + blowdry) Because she took someone out of turn, my child was not seated until 11:40. Romelia did not even address us and instead of apologizing for the delay, (which Yuka did) she made random small talk with other people and went up and read the entire guest list to them. (Why?) From the moment she started the haircut, I should have trusted my instinct and stopped her. But we had been waiting for so long and already seated. She was rough, rushed through the cut, did not talk to my child, and did not say anything or do anything when my child cried out "ow ow!" I said, "he normally does not cry during haircuts" to hint to her that she should be gentler. It just got worse and I finally stopped the cut. (When I did, Romelia didnt respond. She just stopped without asking how my child was) I'm glad I did because my child had abrasions around his ears and nape. When Romelia saw my child's abrasions, she said "he moves too much." No apologies, no attempt to calm the child. Yuka was the one who brought us an antiseptic and bandaid (without us asking). Romelia did not even dust off the hair off my child. I think most would agree that this is not to the standard of this salon. I left without confronting Romelia because I didn't want to subject Yuka and the other customers to anything awkward. (My husband even tipped her) I respectfully recommend that Romelia receive customer service training and training to cut child's hair. My son has NEVER cried during his previous haircuts. I know abrasions can happen and that kids can move. But Romelia's treatment of my child is less than how dogs are treated in pet salons. read more

Easily the worst haircut I've ever had. The place was clean and empty but the stylist did not understand how to take direction. I even brought a reference photo and she did not understand what to do. I asked for curtain bangs face framing and adding layers to my hair trying to take off only about an inch from the length. Instead I got straight across bangs and no layers. When I asked for face framing she said it already looked fine. I think she rushed because right when I sat down another walk in came in and she told her she would be done in 15 minutes. Run, do not walk, as far away from this place as you can. I've never cried from a haircut before (and I've had some pretty bad cuts) until two days ago. I read the other reviews about the other Supercuts up here in San Fran, and I thought this one would be safe. I was very wrong. I told the lady I wanted as close to an a line as my short hair could go, and absolutely do not use clippers. The lady apparently took that as only use clippers. She turned me away from the mirror and before I knew it I could hear the buzz right in my hair. I didn't even have time to say, "STOP WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?!" before she dug into the back of my head. So stupidly I let her continue. She even had to ask, "Are you ok?". Ten minutes later she spins me around to the mirror and I kid you not, she shaved halfway up my head BALD. I'm not talking about a little bit of fluff left, I mean Navy bald. Not to mention she cut about one inch of it a half an inch higher. I was so stunned all I could do is walk out to the car and cry my eyes out. Needless to say I've been wearing at hat since then. I've had some great cuts from Supercuts in San Diego, but I learned my lesson about going to a new one. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I consider myself a pretty laid back person, so when I'm one to complain about a place, then yeah, it's pretty bad. DO NOT COME HERE. Seriously, screw this place. I've had multiple bad experiences, but here are the most memorable: 1.) Came in to get my hair dyed. Asked skinny asian lady how long it would be until I can come in for the dye. She says an hour because their hair dying person is not there. Cool. I chill at Peet's while I wait and return. I come back and she says it will be an hour and a half. I ask why and she says because there are appointments made. I ask "Were they just made now?" She say's "No, they made appointments before." Okay, so you couldn't tell me that before and now you would like me to wait even longer instead of having checked your documented appointments when I first came in and offering to make an appointment later that day or some other time. Incompetent individual without communication skills, it happens, whatever, I go elsewhere. 2.) Okay. I work part time downtown, have no car so I take the M (you all know that thing takes forever to come), am planning my wedding, and am a full time student at this point- time is precious. So I call to avoid previous incident to make sure I can get my hair dyed. Guy on phone says dye person is there, no appointment is needed, I can come in. I go. Same skinny asian lady says she can't do it because there is no time available. At this point I'm pissed, I say I called and asked and the person on the phone said they were available, wtf?! She looks at me with a blank expression. I just leave. Come here if you like to waste your time and money. Otherwise I would recommend ANY other place over this bs. read more

You've all heard the story before. It's a sad tale of how a city girl goes from salon to salon, searching for the right stylist. Like Goldilocks, I've been testing out the high-end salons for quite a while. Too soft, too hard, too expensive! I decided, I'm sick of paying $80 for downtown haircuts, only to walk out feeling like I've been duped. Then came Victor. It's true - he is as fabulous as everyone says he is. He asked me about my hair history, and like confession, I listed all my problems. He listened to what I wanted, but let me know what I needed. Great layers, sassy bangs, perfect length. Don't be fooled. Just because they charge less than $20 does not mean these stylists don't have skill. Victor gave my hair the attention it needed. Even Mr. O, watching from the sidelines, commented on how Victor gave my limp strands some TLC. It's no wonder I had to call 3 times on 3 different days to get an appointment with him! So I came into this location pretty optimistic about my haircut given that they had a 4 star rating. But about midway through my haircut I found that the woman cutting my hair cut my sides and back too high. I asked for a combover with a fade on the sides and it ended up being a high and tight with way too much hair on top, spilling over and floating over the side of my head because of the lack of blending into the side of the attempted "fade". Not only did my hair cut end up looking worse than my bed head when I woke up in the morning, but I decidedly cut off the rest of what she left on my head because I found the cut to be unsalvagable with even the use of pomade, hair wax and excessive combing. The only plus was that the staff there seemed really friendly and I didn't have to wait long. And while I was there I did see them do some decent hair cuts-- i guess I just got unlucky. read more

OMG! I went in around April and after waiting 30 minutes I sat down with my hair sob story (I'm growing it out from an AWESOME Mohawk) I asked what I could do to make it "Presentable". I brought some books with me to the stylists chair and began asking her opinion. She looked at the pictures I showed her and my mangled hair and said, "Honestly, you really should wait and let it grow out." She then told me she *could* cut it in a style I liked but it wouldn't be perfect and I'd probably Hate it. I was sad that I couldn't get it cut that day but really appreciated her honesty. So I came back today. Re-told my story to Wendy, who is AWESOME by the way, and gave a very vague idea of what I wanted. She encouraged me to pick out a picture of what I really wanted or at least something *Close* to what I was after. When she showed me a pic I loved it. She cut my hair EXACTLY like it but it didn't look right on me, so she re-cut it and made me a VERY happy girl! I will be going back to her from now on! read more

I would prefer to zero star. It was a middle aged Chinese female. One: she was grumpy as if I am getting a hair cut for free. Two: she didn't know to cut the hair. She did something using different blade numbers. Finally she something really worse in the center of my head. So I told her to make it one on sides. She used that one so badly and so in effectively that it is not even throughout. Some places it looks like one some looks like two. Ultimately had a bad hair cut. Yes, Supercuts is my stand-by. Don't hold it against me. But I will only go to Victor. I've known him for 15 years and frankly he's probably too talented to work there. But I always know I'll get a good cut this is the only place I have time to get to. Just be aware that parking sucks around here. I usually get lucky if I go down one of the side streets, but if you want to park on West Portal you may be driving around a little. Worst customer service in a long time. I called for an appointment about two hours ahead of time. Response: "Well I GUESS I'll put your name down. We usually only do appointments an hour out." I arrive when I said I would. The woman -- I think the same one I spoke to -- seemed to have blanked on my appointment and instead handed me a clipboard to write my name on. "We'll get to you soon." I sat down and noticed a family of six and another man impatiently waiting. More customers came in and were told the wait was an hour. I left a half hour later, and I'm never coming back. I'm especially soured by this place because the last woman who cut my hair here did an absolutely brilliant job. She even (correctly) pointed out I had been using the wrong hair product for most of my life. When I left that time, she said, "Next time make an appointment! Romelia is the best stylist that I ever met in December 2022. My dad took me here for a hair trim and it's a nice place that I recommend to everyone in my neighborhood. No one enjoys waiting on behalf of getting their hair shampooed, but it's part of life. It was natural of me feel nervous about going to Supercuts in West Portal for the first time, because I didn't know what to expect. I wonder if any of the shampoos or conditioners are available for purchase at this pet free hair salon. It's amazing that she managed to follow our directions about trimming 2 sections of my hair properly EXCEPT the sideburns on both sides of my head. Please note that they were written on a pink index card. It's so nice to come from a well-experienced hair appointment, so you don't worry too much about having your hair become unmanageable anymore. My last visit I asked for buzzcut or "number one" all around, the lady gave me a funny look like she didn't know what I was getting myself into. She asked "you okay with blade going near flesh?" I said it was fine. She finished rather quickly and didn't go over my head more than once like my past barbers or hair stylists have. When I got home, I noticed there were a lot of stray hairs and ended up going over my scalp with some scissors in hand. Being away from home and not having people give me a nice buzzcut for free, you would think itd be a rather simple and straightforward haircut. Paying for a cut is one thing and I'm fine with it however it was baffling that she a licensed hair stylist didn't know how to execute a buzzcut. When she double checked; mentioning that it's touch my" flesh", she's lucky that buzzcuts are my go to and that I knew what she meant by it. Anyone trying it for the first time or the first time in god knows how long, they'd feel super uncomfortable hearing "flesh". Prior to my last visit, I had Victor and Windy a few times. Both did a decent job and left very little if not no stray hairs at all. However, the only thing I'll say is that Windy can come off a little too strong with me at times. I understand it's good to be personable with customers and all and her English is limited. But, it did get a little uncomfortable for me when the only compliments she knows are "cute" and "handsome", when she offered to shampoo my head after the compliments...twice, and the shoulder rub after the cut. She did a great job and she's good at what she does but she probably should go over which gestures and compliments aren't too much for a guest. I am not sure if she works there anymore but I'd highly recommend the Filipina hairstylist, Angela (or Angelica). She's personable, always checks if customers feel comfortable and if they like things a certain way as she cuts. It has been a while since I've seen her. I've been coming here for a while and the staff is usually friendly and does a good job. However, it's starting to seem less consistent than it used to be in terms of staff members and quality in their work and efficient customer service. However, given how I've come here for over a year when I needed a cut that's so simple, this place has redeeming qualities. read more

I love love love this place! I've been to the other Supercuts in San Francisco and they are great, but I drive out of my way to come to West Portal. I feel like "Norm" from Cheers, because they all say "Hi _ _ _ _" when I walk in. I specifically ask for Tammy P. when I get my cut. She is really really good at what she does and takes her time. She will alert me when there are coupons online, and always asks me if I want my favorite product in case I am close to running out.
