While it made a huge mess of the hotel room, it was perfectly delicious and satisfying. Wine (some chilled), some produce, canned goods, ready-to-heat foods, juices, meats, cheese, frozen meals. While maybe you couldn't do a full home shop here, you can definitely get enough for your hotel room or your apartment. Prices seemed decent but I wasn't checking that closely. It is so awesome!! I fell in love. The prices are amazingly affordable. They are so cheap compared to the stores in the states. There is such a wide selection of products but the coolest thing had to be the vending machine of warm bread, croissants, pizza and other munchies. You press a button and they slide out. €.39 for a warm chocolate croissant with nuts!! Oh my gosh it was incredible! A liter of sparking water was seriously €.19 The checkout was a breeze and they accept cards. I would totally shop here if I lived in the area!! Check it out and you won't be disappointed!

Like anywhere, some things cost a little more, some even a little less. Unlike many German markets that are cramped and uninteresting, this store offers better variety in big, bright and comfortable surroundings, and I've never had a long wait at the cashier. It is packed with all sorts of different items and for me is more reminiscent of what I'm used to in a grocery store (from the USA). Some of the other lower cost grocery stores have rotating items so you might not find some things in stock but you will probably find most everything you are looking for here. Do make sure to weight and print out a UPC code for your fruits and vegetables before going to the cash register (which I actually have not done at any other grocery store in Heidelberg yet).

High-class supermarket! I do not know how to name it…read moreproperly - Marktkauf is apparently a supermarket, but it is much more than that - it exceeds my expectations for a supermarket! The first time I visited this place, I was impressed by the neat atmosphere created by the good variety of items in well-organized shelves, the bright and warm lighting, and the well-trained staff working in this place. After a couple of visits, I realized that this supermarket does not only look nice - the butcher's shelves serve good quality products; there is a good cheese corner, and I could even find good soy sauce in different varieties and ideal rice for Asian cuisine! These specialties have made the supermarket outstanding. The price however seems higher here. I did not specifically compare the items one by one, but in my impression, the expense of weekly shopping at Marktkauf is about 1.5-2 times higher than what I would get in Frankfurt from REWE. There are also sections of home decorations, stationary, kitchenware, electronics, clothes/shoes etc. inside this supermarket. I do not have high expectations toward the quality and selection of these stuff in a supermarket. On the contrary, I was very surprised to find out that the selection of tableware is more classic and better-looking than what I could find in the Karstadt in Rhein-Necker Zentrum. The manager of the supermarket apparently knows how to display and to maintain the shelves to attract customers. With all the details well presented to customers, I feel respected as a customer when visiting Marktkauf. Outside of the supermarket area but at the entrance hall, there are also shelves of seafood, a haircut stall, a big bakery, and several small fast food places. Among those food places I have only tried the breads and cakes from the bakery, and I find it nice as well. Highly recommended!
