This is truly a hidden vegas gem thats gained traction over the years with locals to the point that seating fills in fast and tickets can sell out for popular shows and days of the week. You get to experience outdoor theater during the summer, in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains in a large green meadow. They start admission at 5p but shows don't start till 8:05p in the first summer shows then 7:05p later on. The space is located in a state park so you have to get individual tickets for the show, plus admission per vehicle into the park. You often will see wild life grazing around the area, as well as domesticated animals who live there. After 5p some spaces close in the park, but for the show they often have food trucks that sell things to snack on during the show. There is also the option of bringing your own food in. Some people go all out with there set ups whether they choose to sit on the side with picnic blankets or the side with chairs. You can rent chairs when you get there, but must bring your own blankets, unless you buy vip packages. Over the years they have started to raise the prices, but its still an amazing deal for what you get. They also have started to add vip seating for an extra fee, that is reserved so you dont have to scout out a good spot to sit. Sometimes they have special menus that can also be pre-ordered. Make sure whatever seating or eating surfaces you bring are approved hights for the area you plan on sitting in. It also can get colder at night, even in the summer, so look at the forecast and make sure you bring whatever clothes or blankets you may need to be comfortable when the show starts. On days where it may rain you still have to show up if they have not canceled yet to get a rainy day ticket if it does cancle. The path from the parking lot is a bit of a walk, so if you have a good amount of items to bring, it can be helpful to have something to easily cart it around. Overall its a really awesome experience for the community to come together and experience shows that lots of love and care are put into. I would love if they could post what food trucks will be there on certain nights because I have skipped bringing food in the past just to find no trucks were coming that night. They do always have hot dogs and candy, but thats not really my jam. read more

Someone had told us about this outside theater so we had had to check it out. We had a fun evening watching "Singing In The Rain". We brought our own chairs and sat on the right side towards the very back. The left side is for blankets and stadium chairs (no legs). The play itself was entertaining and the sound and lights good. We arrived a little later than we wanted due to parking so some of the vendors had already sold out of food (e.g. pizza). We did grab a couple brats and some popcorn which were good and reasonable. Overall, we had a great time. In the fall, it can get a little chilly in evening so bring a blanket or light jacket. read more

I came here with my family to see SpongeBob the Musical and it is overall a fun family experience! The stage and props were nice, the actors were good, and the vibes were nice! I do believe that there could be improvement on the costumes since some of the characters like Karen and Mr Krabs didn't look like their characters but you can't expect too much from a small musical production. I also recommend bringing your own food because the food and drinks at the venue are a bit pricy and is just the typical hotdogs and burgers. I've been enjoying this experience for about 30 years. Taking my children and now my children with their children is an amazing way to make family memories. Any play you see "under the stars" is a fabulous get away from the Vegas summer heat. We thoroughly enjoyed last nights performance of Sponge Bob. Great cast and performance. On a whim, we decided to go see "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" with zero expectations. It was such a fantastic date night. We brought a blanket, a picnic basket with drinks/snacks/paninis, and we found a great spot not too far from the stage. These performers were incredible. I was astounded by the level of their vocal ability and how talented their performances were. We laughed and our jaws dropped at various moments. The only thing we wished we did was bring some bug spray to fend off some of the late night critters that showed up occasionally. To top it off, the staff running the event were so kind. Such a wonderful venue on the edge of the mountains. If you get lucky you might get a burro sighting as you arrive! I came for "School of Rock" and really enjoyed the performance. The kids really hit it out of the park with their acting and dancing. The weather was perfect and you can sit on a blanket of rent a chair very cheaply. Saw SPONGEBOB The Musical last Tuesday with my Family and some old college buddies with their kids and it was FANTASTIC. Tuesday night's performance of SpongeBob was an explosion of color, music, and pure theatrical fun. The entire cast radiated energy, commitment, and comedic timing, bringing Bikini Bottom vibrantly to life. Each ensemble member added sparkle to the production, from the sardonic Squidward to the feisty Plankton and the powerhouse vocals of Sandy Cheeks. However, Ayden Fafard as SpongeBob truly anchored the show. From the moment he stepped on stage, this young man embodied SpongeBob's optimism and quirky innocence with absolute authenticity. His physicality was captivating - every bounce, wiggle, and wide-eyed grin felt effortless yet deeply grounded in character. Vocally, the young actor delivered with stunning clarity and range, tackling the demanding score with ease while infusing each note with SpongeBob's signature sunny personality. You don't want to miss the performances at the Spring Mountain Ranch during the summer season. you can get tickets here through Super Summer Theatre online. It is relatively inexpensive, family fun. You can bring your own food here or there are some vendors in the park where you can purchase food. They also have a snack stand that sells drinks, popcorn, and candy. You bring your own chairs that have no legs and you can use them to sit to watch the show. some people rent chairs are for a dollar. You can also bring a blanket to spread on the lawn. Chairs with any type of legs or stands are not allowed. The tickets sell out quickly. You have to pay for parking and you can pay in advance, it's $10. The shows typically start at 8 o'clock, but the meadow opens at 6 PM, and people always line up early in the heat so that they can get a close spot near the stage. They offer chairs with legs in a designated seating area and you can rent them for a dollar. I've been going here for almost 25 years with my family and friends. there is a metal in back that you can walk through as long as you get your hand stamped and you can see where Howard Hughes has his ranch. I am a bit of a theatre nut, having studied it in college, and I finally had the opportunity to attend a show at Super Summer Theatre at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. I had an incredible experience. We were arriving to the venue just as the sun was beginning to set, and that was a gorgeous sight. This performance space was definitely placed in the ideal spot. Guests are permitted to bring their own refreshments to the show, and enjoy them during the performance. My friends and I brought the makings for charcuterie boards, and had a great time. The performance of "Something Rotten," a spoof on musical productions, was wonderfully executed by an outstanding cast. I've lived in Vegas for 6 years and just found out about this place, talk about a hidden gem! Located at Spring Mountain Ranch, the views are breathtaking and the shows are fantastic. There are two sides you can sit on - one is picnic blankets and stadium chairs only and the other side is for your standard camping chairs. You can bring your own food or alcohol, but they do have food trucks and concession stand if you don't want to haul it all in. We were invited to see The Little Mermaid at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park for their Super Summer Theatre, an outdoor venue for plays and musicals. The theatre is located within the park and offers a unique setting with the Spring Mountains as a scenic backdrop. The plays and musicals are staged in the evenings between May and September. I really didn't want to go because I thought it would be lame, but actually we were blown away by the experience! It was a full-blown professionally produced broadway musical in the middle of the desert! We were in shock at how good it was in this informal natural setting! We had VIP seating which were reserved spots on a blanket on the ground up near the stage. I don't know what the cost was, but there were whole families with children of all ages, so how much could it be? There are plastic lawn chairs that they provide for seating for those further from the stage. Naturally, the further you sit back the harder it is to see any of the details that are on the stage. There were food trucks for , , , etc., but most attendees brought picnic baskets and small ice coolers (as did we), wine, soda, water, etc. I thought the heat would be miserable, but it was surprisingly cool and breezy. I have lived in Vegas for 12 years and I never heard of this place. I don't know how many more performances of the Little Mermaid or what dates, but it's a must see. Attended the Little Mermaid with my wife and teenage granddaughter last night. It has been a couple years since we last went because of family issues. But we were all surprised how much they have improved. Getting in and out was easier. The play itself was amazing. The sets, costumes, and the singing was amazing. What a great experience. The drive wasn't long for us about 20 minutes. When we arrived the lines were long but moved quite quickly. There are helpers to organize parking so it was easy to park and to get out at the end. Everyone brings picnic style items because it's outdoors but you can purchase low to the ground chairs and regular sitting chairs. They section the areas off for fair viewing. We bought out own sandwiches, lots of snacks and drinks but there was food for purchase. They have yogurt, hotdogs, popcorn, there was a pizza vendor and a coffee vendor. There are also real bathrooms that were clean and stocked. They play itself was great. It was very entertaining. This was a fun and relaxing experience. We went to the Super Summer Theater: School of Rock yesterday. It was our first time. I saw an ad or post about it on Facebook. It was OUTSTANDING! We had an amazing time! The show was so professional, acting, singing, staging, everything! We had to come early, before 6 pm, and show starts at 8, because there is no assigned seats. But it was fun picnicking on the grass, resting and watching people and dragonflies. We will definitely be back again and again! Such a great location for a terrific production. I really love coming to shows here. The production quality is wonderful and the price really can't be beat. Gates open at 6. We arrived at 5:50 pm on a Friday opening weekend and there was already quite a line, but we managed to get a good seat on blankets near the front. Actually, there were people coming in at 7:30 that still got seats near the front. But for the best seats definitely get there early, especially if you plan to rent a chair or on a busier night. The front rows of the chair section were already filled by the time we made it to the theater from our place in line. The parking lot opens at 5 if you are realllllly wanting to be first in line. Can't speak to the food, but there is a concession stand and a food truck serving up some delicious looking cake and ice cream desserts. We always pack a ton of food, wine, blankets, and entertainment for the kids to kill the 2 hours before show time. Board games are the best, and a soccer ball proved very beneficial this last time. It can get quite cool at night, so be prepared if it's not your average Vegas sweltering summer night. When we came it was a beautiful 75 degrees, but by the time the show started we had on coats and blankets, and I was still cold. Only downside is they need more restrooms. Only 6 individual restrooms for hundreds of people leads to very long lines. I've waited 25+ minutes before, so go early if you can instead of right before showtime. read more

Super Summer Theatre, Chicago!!!! This is my first review here but definitely not my first visit to this sweet venue. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this show. It was rated PG-13 but I have only watched kids plays there so I was a little worried PG-13 still might push towards younger crowd. Boy, was I wrong! The adult humor was there and quite a few curse words were used. Girls dressed provocative and dances a nit on the dirty side. This doesn't need to be a novel (since I like to write so much on my reviews), not all that is necessary here. I was dragged here by coworkers for a volunteering opportunity- but had a surprisingly great time! Generally "community theater" gets a bad rap, but the performers here were actually super! Cast was incredibly talented and the show (Lend Me a Tenor) was a great (though not family-friendly) comedy. The park is clean, parking is easy, and tickets are cheap ($13). Even in early September with hundred-degree daytime temps, it gets a bit chilly in the evening, so plan accordingly and consider bringing a sweater. Lighting and audio quality were great, especially considering this is a temporary setup. Concessions are surprisingly low-priced ($2 giant hotdog, $1 bottled drinks) and there were a few food trucks on hand too (fries, coffee, funnel cakes, sandwiches, etc.). You are allowed to bring your own food and drink as well, picnic baskets and coolers permitted. Take or rent a chair for seating, unless you get there early, the ground doesn't have a great view. For the volunteering portion, you are able to help with parking, seating, or concessions, before (5PM-show time) and/or during the show. The work is easy and the regulars are friendly, and after putting in your time you get to see the show for free, with a chair and water bottle. I'm bummed to discover this place at the end of the season! Lend Me a Tenor will be playing through the end of September, but shows regularly run monthly from June-September each summer (hence the name). read more

The production and talent are much higher than you'd expect from the venue. Or Las Vegas for that matter. Nestled in the park among majestic mountains are musicals that rival the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. AND you get to picking with BYOB. Just be picky that it's a show you like or want to see and you're bound to be pleased. Or don't, it's cheap enough where you don't feel like you wasted money. I've heard alot about SST for years and we FINALLY got to spend a night out with Paolo and Jieun when we went to see Shrek. This is a perfect example of "There's much more than the Strip"... This is a great place to arrange a night out with family and friends to just have a great time. We went during the hot summer months, but didn't have to worry about baking in the heat because it was surprisingly cool the whole time we were there! There are two seating areas on the lawn-one half where chairs are allowed,(you can rent chairs there for $1) and another area which I personally prefer because you can bring low back chairs, or lay out a blanket picnic style. Pack your own picnic basket like we did with some cheeses, wine, sweets, and some beer and a couple bottles of wine, and you're good to go! If you're too lazy to do so, no worries, they have concession stands there as well. Shows do sell out, so grab your tickets fast or better yet, become a season ticketholder! The live performing arts is something I did not fully appreciate until after I was grown. I've been to a few plays over the years. Some high budget shows at well known and respected venues. Some were smaller productions at local play houses. Never had I been to a play at an outdoor venue. That is until I went out to Super Summer Theatre earlier this summer. I went to see Bye Bye Birdie. I had heard of it before I went though I had never seen any of the film or theatre productions previously. I knew that it would be about a 1950's era rock'n'roll star so I was not the least bit surprised to hear the early rock hits of the late 50s and early 60s playing before the show. I was rocking out like nobodies business despite my young(er) age. I love that music. Anyhow, I knew I would be having fun when the show got going. I did have fun though I don't think I spent much time watching the show. Being outside under the stars was a distraction. I am a bit of a sky watcher and living in the city I don't often get to see so many stars. Spring Mountain Ranch, where Super Summer Theatre is housed, is away from all the city lights and therefore provides amazing star viewing opportunites. I almost didn't even recognize the sky. I did know what I was looking at when I saw at least three satellites passing over head. That was cool. This scenery was my big take away from the night. The ranch is nestled against the mountains which, with a setting sun behind them, create some magnificant shadows. They also keep the night air crisp and cool. I was glad there were a few food trucks around so I could get a hot cup of tea and warm me up. Sitting on the lawn and taking in the fresh air while sipping on a cup of Earl Grey was a nice way to spend the evening. It was almost relaxing. Had it not been for the hundreds of bats zipping around and buzzing my head I would have been happy as a clam. I appreciate bats and like to see them from afar. But I don't want to hear the wind coming off their wings as they swoop my head. Eek. Glad we were early because there were already about 50 people in line to get in when the gates open at 6:00. We went in September and it does get really chilly when the sun goes down. Bring warm clothes and blankets. We got tickets the day of and the only ones available were the $20. We were so happy we got the cheap tickets because we were able to get really close to the stage just behind the blanket section. We rented two of the plastic chairs ( only $1/each!). There are about 6 gender neutral restrooms as well as a few porta potties. The night we were there there was a bbq food truck as well as the concession stand selling soft drinks and snacks. My wife made the suggestion that we come up here last year, at first I wasn't super excided( normally local theatre is average at best). Last year we saw Beauty and the beast, and it was really good , the stage and sound quality is far above expectations. It was a well directed and organized production, just as good as some Broadway shows I have seen in the past. This year we went to the wedding singer, and the production was great, same quality show and overall organization. So now I have seen multiple shows and they both are great presentations. The quality of show really makes you feel like you in a high production show not sitting in a park eating a picnic. So the seating is first come first serve, I recommend getting there aroud 6 to 630. Bring a blanket and a picnic have some drinks. They normally have a good section of vendors selling fair stlye food for reasonable price. I do recommend renting one of the chairs that sit on the ground they are $1. The downside and the only downside if you ask me, the restroom situation is not nice ( as a guy I'm ok but the last 2 times my wife has had no tp and had to hover ( or that's what she calls it ) So by far one of the best vegas spots to watch a great show and have an awesome night out, its by far the best date night in Vegas. This was my very first time at the Super Summer Theatre. To be honest I didn't even know this theatre existed. A friend of mine invited me to watch the musical Annie (Late August) and when we were following the navigation system, I was surprised were this was located. The drive from Las Vegas wasn't that bad, less than 30mins away. If you've been to the bonny springs then, its right next to it. The musical that I watched "ANNIE" was freaking amazing. I enjoyed it. This location for this theatre was very refreshing. It was great to be away from the big city of lights and just be in the mountains of relaxation. TIPS: *They rent chairs ($1) but make sure you bring a cushion because if your show was 1.5hours long like mine then your butt starts hurting. *They allow you to bring your own chairs if you please and well and blankets to sit on the floor. *First come first serve so make sure you come early to have good spot. *They do have restroom, the lines do get long but they were pretty clean. *Bring your own food and snacks. You'll get hungry. If you're lucky they will sell food at the event but it is a little expensive. *They do allow alcohol drinks. *Bring a blanket or sweater (Depending on when you go) May I add, all the volunteers were AMAZING!!!! Welp, shame on me for waiting so long to see a show here after living in Vegas since 1992. We just saw "Tarzan, the Musical" last night and it was fabulous. The weather was perfect, we had an almost full moon, the picnic food shared with our friends was delicious, and the show itself was Broadway-worthy. All this for $12.95 per person under the stars, amidst the Red Rocks? You can't get a better deal in town, especially with being able to bring your family and friends of all ages and your own food. Super Summer Theatre is celebrating its 40th season--wow! TIPS: -Get tickets on-line in case the show sells out. There were still tickets available at the door last night, though. -Get there early to get your part of the lawn. Thanks to Paolo and Jieun who saved a big spot for our party of 8. We had a great view very close to the stage. -Bring your own food and beverages, plus blankets to lie down on. The weather got a bit cooler as the evening wore on, so be aware of that. -You can rent seats there for $1. The seats are basically plastic lawn chairs with the legs cut off so that you don't block anyone's view. I HIGHLY recommend renting one or bringing your own version of this because my back started to hurt after half an hour with no support. -There is a concession stand that sells snacks and their prices are very reasonable. However, you can just bring your own food and drinks, too. We passed one party that was having steak--yum. -Go to the bathroom before the show begins. They don't have a lot of restrooms, so it's best to take care of business before you sit back and enjoy the show. Plus, it gets super dark and then you'd have to step over a lot of people to get to the bathroom. It may be helpful to bring a little flashlight so you can see if you need to use the facilities.
