Maybe it's just me, but I don't see what is so great about this place. The pho is just eh... although, others might disagree. I will say that their pho is one of the few decent offerings on their menu. One would hope so, considering they call themselves "Super Pho." According to my friends, their bahn mi's are good. Their cafe sua da is ok. I guess this place isn't at a total loss. Service could definitely use improvement, but it is an Asian establishment after all, so I suppose I can't expect too much. Oh and their stingy with their portions... definitely not worth the prices they charge. I definitely won't be visiting again, though, especially after last night. I made the mistake of ordering an entree other than pho (which is usually a safe bet - stupid me), and I was totally let down. I decided to give their beefsteak a try because my Vietnamese friend suggested it. OMG, the beefsteak was an epic failure. It was the saddest piece of steak ever. No flavor, no dimension, no nothin'! It's a half step above edible. They even got the nerve to bring out A1 Sauce! Well, at least they did so much as to pour the A1 into a pretty dipping dish for me, but I mean, really?! A1 Sauce?! Here I was, ready to be taken by some awesome, authentic, Vietnamese beefsteak, and all I got was a drab piece of meat with some A1. Wow. I love Vietnamese restaurants, and Super Pho is no exception. I had the cold vermicelli lemongrass noodles. Ugh, I love it--I could seriously eat it once a day. The plate comes with a ton of food--noodles, lettuce, chicken--so it's definitely something that'll fill you up. It's so cheap, too! love their won ton mein. Soup is served piping HOT. Soup is not oily. Skin of won ton thin. (*Once in great while soup is oily though but most times not, WAY BETTER when soup not oily) Of course it would be really cool if they had hot mustard to eat with it. But they have good chili sauces. Yay for Super Pho!!! I was really pleased with this place. It was my last day in Hawaii and the weather felt like Seattle so I really wanted Pho to satisfied my cravings. I have been to other Pho places in the area and was left feeling a little homesick because nothing tasted like home. Luckily the people that ran the place was super sweet. Aw, this reminds me of some of my favorite hole in the wall places in SF. Funny, cluttered self-decorating, tv(s), oddities on the menu (snail at a pho place?) I had the seafood pho, and it was rich in umami, but the seafood was exactly 2 pieces of each of the following: shrimp, squid, fish ball. Except that the fish ball might have been one cut in half. A bit stingy for the $10 price tag. Otherwise, super delicious. My boyfriend had the vegetarian pho, again, very tasty and full of msg, but the vegetables were sparse! A few leafs of dark green stuff, two cauliflower and onion. Not so super after all. Our vegetarian spring rolls were fantastic, with mashed tofu innards and plenty of fixins (lettuce, rice noodles, cucumber and savory dipping sauce). There was nothing wrong with the service -- they bring you your food and stay the hell out of your way, just as good servers ought to. No ingratiating banter, no hovering, no insincere questions about how your food tastes. I've been here before for their pho but it was so long ago that I can't really review it well. I know it was good! Recently I came and had Vermicelli with spring rolls, bbq summer rolls as an app and a thai tea. Everything was delightful and well worth the price! The Vermicelli with spring rolls had a generous amount of spring rolls on top and in a very large bowl. My boyfriend got the Vermicelli with shredded pork, bnq pork and spring rolls. When I first came here with my friend, the parking was hard to tell the difference from housing or super phos parking. After we got into the restaurant, we were seated quickly and got served iced tea. The hospitality was great. When I ordered a bowl of pho, she didn't ask for my size and just served me a large. when I got my food, there was no flavor what so ever. It tasted like food in boiling water. This is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants that serve rice congee, also known as rice porridge or rice gruel. They call it rice soup on the menu here. It's absolutely amazing and delicious. You can get it with pork, chicken, or duck. I definitely recommend the duck version which comes with Vietnamese coriander and a ginger fish sauce, also rare in Hawaii. I did not taste MSG in this. Their vegetarian menu is very large. My wife loves their vegetarian curry which comes with tofu and eggplant, no potatoes. I saw the instructor of a vegetarian cooking class eating here, so you know it must be legit! Yelpers seem to say the pho here is meh with MSG. So try the rice soup instead! read more

If I can't get to my favorite pho place then this is my second choice. It's pretty close to home, conveniently located in town and free parking. The food is good, hot, consistent, Lotsa choices and generous portion sizes. There's always a table for you and your family or friends or take that as an option as well. I always get the pho. I went to Super Pho this week because I've been battling a cold/sore throat and I thought the broth would help soothe me. It's always worked before. But I'm really unimpressed with my experience there this time. They definitely get points for speed. My food came out about 1 minute after I ordered it. My bowl of pho was steaming hot and fresh smelling. But the broth was really bland. Closer in flavor to hot water than the delicious pho broth I'm accustomed to. Plus the menu that I was given said my pho was $9.99 but I was rung up for $11.51. When I asked why the price was off I just got a bland stare and a shrug. Really? No explanation. I didn't really feel like what I got was worth almost $12. While there was white meat chicken in the bowl, there wasn't a lot. Nor were there many noodles. $12 for a bowl of bland broth is really pushing it. I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

I work right near Super Pho. I have found myself ordering pho from them at least once or twice a month since I've started working almost 2 years ago. I only order the combination pho from here. The pho is ok. It suffices my pho craving if I ever am craving pho on work days. I find Super Pho a little stingy with their meat though, at least in the combination pho. If you're in a hurry, you can order the 'house special' pho, and they ask you if meat inside or outside. the raw slices of beef. The search for authentic vietnamese food continues... This place was a disappointment. We've been here a few times, thought it was a little pricier than other vietnamese noodle shops, but wanted to see if we would still like it after a few visits. The last time we were here, my husband had a shrimp salad and it was not like any vietnamese salad I've ever seen or eaten- the main ingredient is usually shredded cabbage or papaya, this one had long rice cellophane noodles and lettuce. Very odd dish and did not enjoy it. I had a grilled pork noodle bowl, I ate half and then noticed a small black hair in the middle of the bowl. The overall feel of the experience was so disappointing that I didn't bother pointing it out to them. There was a bossy older woman at the register staring at us while we were eating- gave me the creeps. I didn't feel like arguing with her so we paid and left. Honestly I'm not even sure if this review deserves 2 stars, but I'll be generous. I came here recently with my family and was greeted by minimal parking which already began our dining experience on a not so great note (there were maybe 2 parties there, but for some reason all 4-5 stalls were already taken??) But that's only the beginning. We walked in and were told to take the last table and so we went. We probably sat for a couple minutes before anyone brought us any menus or even came to say any word to us. Finally, our waters came out. But when I say waters, I mean our server gave our table of 5, two waters and that was it until we finally had to ask for other drinks. We told the server we were in a hurry and while I obviously didn't expect them to be any faster (I know food takes time to cook) but I'm fairly certain pho shouldn't have taken as long as it did. When the food finally came out, even our order was wrong. We asked for meat outside, the meat was already sitting in the soup. We asked for one of an item, two came out. We were given one thing of sauce for our two orders of spring rolls. And worst of all, our server didn't even seem sorry. He smiled, and appeared confused that we were joking. I wish it was a joke, but sadly it wasn't. I have only been here once before, a long time ago so I'm not sure if this is their usual. I really hope it was just an off day for that specific server and no one else had to deal with an almost entirely wrong order. I convinced my boyfriend, a huge fan of Hale Vietnam, to try Super Pho, a restaurant I hadn't been to in years but which I wanted to try again. I'm always searching for a new favorite pho place and I had high hopes for Super Pho. We ordered the papaya salad, chicken pho, and the catfish soup. The papaya salad was delicious and one of the best versions I've had. The ratio of sauce to papaya was perfect and we really enjoyed it. The chicken pho was ok but I suspect that the broth wasn't homemade, that it was reconstituted from the bouillon stock mix and MSG because after the meal, I started feeling a bit dizzy. The catfish soup was a no-go. My boyfriend gave me a ladle full to try but I took two sips and that was enough for me. He tried his best to finish the soup but just couldn't. The catfish pieces were fatty and he was completely disgusted. Maybe we ordered the wrong items, or perhaps it was an off-day in the kitchen, but for now, I'll wait awhile before returning. read more

We've been coming here every Sunday (take out only) for the last 7 years. The food TASTE is awesome; but otherwise, they are EXTREMELY inconsistent (which is what i'm going to go into the most): Food Choices: - They have the best selection of all the Pho places around. They have great combinations (we love the rice noodle/egg noodle seafood combo!) ideas. - I always get their Summer Rolls, its the only place that has pork and shrimp inside it. - Their papaya salad is HUGE, that's something that never seems to change; however, the sauce seems to go back and forth between 2 types. Portion Sizes: - When I started to go there, it was really good portion sizes (filled up me or my husband); however, after the first couple years it became very inconsistent. - On one day, a Pho could feed 2 people, on another weekend it would only be enough to feed my 3-year-old daughter! - Also the items in the Pho are very inconsistent. Sometimes if they are out of one item, they'll double another; however, there are other times that it looks like they put less and just cut it up more to look like there were more items in the bowl. Price: - The owners go on vacation for a month every February. - When they come back, they normally give a discount of approximately 20% as a sort of welcome back. - however, when they come back, they also always raise the price about 25 cents to 50 cents. hence, you are paying the same as before. and once that discount passes, they've now weaned you into the higher price. - from when i started, a pho bowl has gone up from about $7 to $9 currently. Service: - LIke i said, we've ordered from there for the past 7 years, every Sunday at 12 noon. the orders have been almost identical in that entire time. - and every single weekend, we have to ask them for certain types of greens or certain sauces (we like the garlic hot sauce) to be put in our bag. - I would have hoped that by the third year, they would have gotten to know what to exactly what to put in the bags, but its still a shot in the dark . Frequent Customer: - I know this isn't part of it, but I would have loved to have seen some type of frequent shopper type card or some type of acknoweldgement. (a free bowl or a discount or anything!) for spending $60 every week. Clearly, we like the place if we keep going back, but there are the problems and more recently we haven't been going as often (as stated in the problems above). we won't stop going there (taste means a lot!) but you should be aware of the inconsistencies if that's a priority of yours. read more

I love pho. After pho, saimin is so bland and plain. I have a slight cold tonight and hot soup would burn it out! After finding street parking, the restaurant was a pleasant two minute walk away. Glad it wasn't raining. Ambience is sort of strange with Te Christmas lights and sky blur painted ceiling, the huge collection of good fortune statuary. Yet it sort of works as a quirky Saigon kind of feel. The waitress had a strong accent, but I could understand he just fine. Fortunately, the menu is mostly numbered and you just ask for the item number. The photographs of the dishes help a lot too. I ordered hot spicy sour soup with chicken. Pho cures everything. Super Pho's got great veggie pho with all the basics, and they serve a mountain of herbs and greens and bean sprouts that make your wildest dreams come true. It's well priced for the no-frills environment. What is also sort of awesome is the fact that they have like, THREE TV's in this one restaurant. Service is quick as hell, too. I originally came here for the Pho since I hadn't had it in awhile. It was pretty good compared to other pho places around honolulu. It's a bit pricey here since they only offer one size. The broth is considerably tasty but I like that they have so many other options that many Pho places on the mainland don't offer. Especially the curry plates. Sometimes its a hit or miss when you order it with meat. Sometimes they give you a lot and other times barely any meat, but a lot of curry sauce. I'm a rice plate kind of girl and their pork chop and shredded pork is awesome. Always cleaned my plate. It was especially nice when they were closed for a month since the whole family went to vietnam and came back giving 30% discounts for every customer for 1-2 weeks. Super pho never fails. To me, one of the best tasting pho in Hawaii. Right in the center of Kaimuki, the location is perfect. Parking isn't abundant but you can find parking on the street as well. The portions of the pho are huge. And so cheap consisting the price to portion ratio. The soup is so flavorful. You can go some places, and soup can be bland. There are a handful of pho places in Kaimuki and Super Pho is pretty much the easiest one to find. Right across from the Kaimuki District Park. I love pho, but its tremendous amount of carbs allows me to only really eat about once every few months. Therefore, I have to pick my pho places carefully. Not only Super Pho is close to my workplace, it is the lowest priced spot around too. My pho of choice always is the combination pho. Super Pho's combination pho is a bit odd. They give lots of noodles but very little meats and accents. A shame really since carbs is my enemy. Additionally, I work about 2 minutes from Super Pho and I was very surprised when my pho wasn't really hot. My favorite go to place for pho when I'm in kaimuki. They are very fast at bringing the food even when you make a take out its ready within 5 min. The price is a little more expensive than some other places. The pho that I eat is about $9.25, which is enough to fill me up. There is a little parking lot with a few stalls if not you'd have to park on the street, so if you decide to come, come on a off time or right before the rush comes. It comes with a nice assortment of veggies (other places like to just pile on tons of cabbage), tofu, and the broth is always flavorful. I thought I was going to really like this place considering I was only having Pho and it seems kind of hard for a Vietnamese restaurant to mess that up....however, I asked for no Tofu in my Vegetarian pho and the waitress agreed to add a few more vegetables in its place. I got my pho, dressed it up with the yummy sprouts and basil, added some hot sauce and dug in. There was an okay amount of cabbage, but digging through I found 1 piece of broccoli, 1 tiny piece of cauli flower...so I considered myself a winner when I found the 2nd (and last) carrot. The flavor was pretty basic, almost like it was just boiled water and threw the cabbage in. My friend got the Sweet & Sour Soup. It didn't say Tofu on the menu, but it came with it, so we had to pick it out. We also tried the Taro Tapioca Pudding....it was super dry and kind of bland. Gross to say the least. Ate here with my friend who likes this place a lot. Now I understand why. We were hungry so we each ordered the beef pho combo that included everything, shared spring rolls for appetizer and an iced French coffee. Big portions. The spring rolls came with salad and lettuce so you could wrap them inside and make your own lettuce wrap. The espresso was sweet enough and not watered down. They let you choose if you want onions or cilantro in your pho. The soup base was decent and everything was pretty good. Good service. The folks are super friendly. This is my fave pho spot on island. I love their veggie pho. They always make it super duper hot however I really wish they would put more veggies in them. Sometimes they are skimping a lot on the veggies. The other day I ordered bbq chicken with cold vermicelli and spring rolls. I was a little sad when i opened my container to find half of a spring roll chopped into 3 little pieces.
