It's been a saviour many times when I've had a mega cold/flu and run out of tissues or Codral after hours. There's ample parking in this complex of shops, so points for convenience. It always feels a bit expensive here for anything other than medicines, so if I'm wanting toiletries, I'd prefer to visit Coles or Woolies. They do stock MOR products - hand and body creams and lovely scented reed diffusers, as well as a big range of nail polishes, which grab my attention every time.

As the name says, it's a day and night, so if you're in this neck of the woods, chances are you'll…read moreend up here at some point. I find their medicinal products are priced well enough, and they will offer you the cheaper pharmacy brand if you want it too. You sometimes have a bit of a wait, it's rarely been quiet when I've been in, at any time of the day, but there's few chemists I've been to where this isn't the case. The staff are all helpful, friendly and knowledgable. The shop itself is quite cluttered. They sell a lot of products, and it's jammed right in. If the place is busy expect multiple queues to weave between the product islands, and you'll probably find yourself wondering where the heck to stand while waiting for your prescription. The plus side, they probably have what you need. Which is exactly what I need in a chemist, not large, wide, open walkways. There's parking right out front, but don't expect to easily be able to turn right and northbound onto Sandgate Road if you're there around peak hour.

They sell kitchen gadgets, beauty products, gourmet foods, home wares, candles, toys, clothes, umbrellas, books, and yet still manage to function as a pharmacy as well. The pharmacists here are very knowledgeable and experienced, thanks in part to being situated in a large medical centre. The same phenomenon, though, means that it can get very busy and the wait for prescriptions can be a while. Their large volume of customers after prescription medicines also means that they run out of things. It doesn't mean you can't get your medicine, just that they have to send someone away to get it from storage or something and that, too, can cause delay. Although it fulfills its requirements as a pharmacy perfectly well, I more often use The Mill Pharmacy as a place to browse or buy random little things while I'm killing time before an appointment. At least if your script is taking a while there's not shortage of things to look at.

The Mill Pharmacy, across the road from the famous-but-less-than-impressive Old Windmill structure…read more(our state's oldest building), is sandwiched in amongst a selection of medical specialists and hospitals on Wickham Terrace. The pharmacy does a roaring trade owing to the amount of people constantly going in out of the building, either to see a fertility doctor or ear, nose and throat specialist or for some dreaded orthodontic appointment. This means many come to the pharmacy for scripts or medications, but this isn't what draws me in to this pharmacy. I love my pharmacies. I particularly love pharmacies that sell my favourite brands of make-up at cheap prices, and this is one of them. They get you in by filling the flanks of the store with make-up deals and before I knew it, I came out of here with a new lipstick, foundation and powder - having intended to buy nothing. They weren't my normal brand but a fairly cheap brand the chemist offered - and the colours were fabulous, matching my odd complexion (fair-skinned, dark-eyed) fairly well. (This is a rare win for me.) There's always a lot of bustling about in here but the staff are very friendly and won't keep you waiting if they're in the middle of chatting to someone else. It's like they have a sensor for potentially impatient customers, and are able to be in three places at once. Jolly good job!

However it looked to be a blessing when a new pharmacy was seen just across the road. It meant we didn't have to drive another couple of kilometers up the road when just being seated was getting onerous. At first we thought the Good Price had extended a late dispensary across the road because the color scheme was almost the same from a distance. But as it turned out a local chemist appears to have adopted the Discount Drug Store franchise with a relocation. Its more modestly sized than its competitors with most products well represented, just fewer brands. Every chemist has a slightly different personality. Some appeal to us for cosmetic reasons, practicality, or price. But the one common denominator is we expect the pharmacist to supply exactly what the doctor ordered. This was not our experience. My wife was short changed a sheet of controlled medication. We only noticed after we got home which happened to be 15 minutes after they closed so the phone wasn't answered. In their defense they put things right the next day but let's face it, ringing up to dispute the amount of strong pain medication after you've left the shop is an awkward position to be in. She said because they did the right thing she's happy to use them again. As they say in softball, strike one.
