I ordered through the website. Their order online link took me to a site ordering for pickup through Square. When I arrived for my paid order I was told they were not affiliated with Square. And there was nothing they could do to fulfill my order or take care of the refund. I had to go through my bank. They were very aware of the Square link and that people have complained it. THis is not the best taqueria/Mexican joint by any means but, there is not a place quiet like it in SF. I recall my drunken memories here... after a night of pAArtying I would make a trip to Super Cucas for the pork plate with with extra chopped onions and cilantro, grilled veggies, and rice... This place has to be the most overrated mexican restaurant in IV. What I've noticed is that all the freshmen that don't want to jump on the Freebirds bandwagon tend to rave about Super Cucas. For me Super Cucas was that place I would go to after a night of partying if it was still open. Do not go and appear drunk on two separate occasions I came in with some loud rowdy friends. They overcharged my credit card one of the times and double charged me the other time. I guess they took it out thinking I would not notice. Maybe it was A-Hole tax, but still... But nevermind that... The food itself is pretty dry. They used to have a fully stocked salsa bar at all times but now you have to be lucky in order to find salsa. Or you could ask them. I used to go for the tortas but stopped ever since I've discovered el Sitio. The chorizo breakfast burrito is pretty good (I'll give them that.) But even then la Cantina is better. Yeah Super Cucas is probably the most overrated restaurants in the area. I don't know why so many people rant about how great it is or that its the most authentic restaurant in IV. It just beats Rosarito... and thats about it... Yeah so freshmen don't think that Super Cucas is the best in SB without tryiing the others. Just went back to UCSB for Alumni Weekend and HAD to update my review to reflect the new Super Cucas! When I heard they had bulldozed the old place, I was heartbroken.... until I found out that it's not gone, it just has a new location! Though I'm a little bummed that the place has spruced up a bit and doesn't quite have the same grimey "charm" that I used to love, the food hasn't changed a bit, and I would still pick the Cuc's over Freebirds any day. The nachos are as great as ever, and the Breakfast Burritos (especially the Guacamole Burrito) are to die for! Also a fave are the nacho fries & all the awesome salsas to choose from! One update that didn't go unnoticed was the fact that instead of serving both Dine-in and To-Go orders on styrofoam, Dine-in orders now come on reusable ceramic plates. Nicely done, Super Cucas. I have lived half an hour from the Mexican border for most of life..therefore I have eaten a lot of Mexican food. I have also lived in IV for most of my UCSB career...therefore I have eaten a lot of super cuca's. I have to admit, it's not the best burrito in the world. But, it is one of the most legit food places in IV and its not that expensive (my boyfriend and I would still split everything we got there cause we were broke and the portions were huge!). Freebirds is overrated...overcrowded with douche bags..and expensive. I really don't know why it's so well known, every visitor that comes wants to go there. I mean if you want to eat massive amounts of slop, by all means, go for it. If you are a San Diegan wanting to relish some sweet memories go to super cuca's! The owner is super sweet and we are total homies (he always hooks it up with some chips)! by the way..GET THE ENCHILADAS (mmM green sauce so good!), or the tacos. and i almost always get carnitas. expand your horizons a bit, there are other things to eat than carne asada and burritos out there. ;) read more

I have to come here when visiting SB again. The food itself can be a bit overrated if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, but hey we're talking about IV here, so no one really gives a hoot. Super Cucas earned it's 4 stars SOLELY because of it's Carne Asada Fries! For about 7 bucks, you'll have enough to share with someone, and still have leftovers. It's your best bang for your buck. Doesn't hold up to Freebirds. I got the veggie burrito here, and I guess there's two types of veggie burritos. Make sure you specify which one you want, because my veggie burrito was nothing but zucchini, squash, celery, and sour cream. No beans, no rice, no lettuce, no tomatoes, no guacamole, no anything else that would qualify it as a BURRITO. It was like a creamy, soggy, salad wrapped in a tortilla. Supposedly other people I know have had much better experiences here at Super Cuca's, but seeing as how this place has 4.5 stars with a whole lot of reviews, I have no reservations about giving them a 2 star rating. read more

Actually a 3.5. This place is great if you want to eat something super filling and feel like a slug afterward. Regardless, the food is good for the money. I was visiting my sister at UCSB over my winter break, and she insisted I try the California burrito (burrito with french fries in it instead of rice) because she was shocked that I had never heard of it before. The first time I heard about it I thought it sounded disgusting, but I warmed up to the idea and decided to try it. Atmosphere: The place overall looks a bit sketch, but there are tables inside and outside. Food: The California Burrito is pretty ginormous. I think the reason I'm docking points off is because of the french fries within the burrito. They didn't taste like they were cooked all the way - they were extremely pale and soggy. I think I would've enjoyed the burrito more had the fries been a little more cooked and crunchy. The burrito on its own was pretty good though - full of carne asada and other regular ingredients. It's just really heavy, so be prepared to feel that way an hour or two after you eat. Service: Average and fast. Prices aren't too bad either. Overall: Maybe I'll go again and try something new - my sister likes their breakfast and veggie burritos. read more

5 Stars. I miss IV burritos. I guess it's like coke or pepsi...everyone has a different opinion on freebirds, cucas, cantina, or rosarito. I used to go to the cucas on Micheltorena way before there was one in IV. The Mitcheltorena one definitely has better quality, plus you get to order while standing in the a carneceria. On the otherhand, I haven' been to freebirds since the IV cucas opened. It's guaranteed goodness from cucas. Someone said to try carne asada fries. I thought it was something special, but yea it's nachos but with fries instead of chips. I had to one up them. I love egg and I love carnitas. So Carnitas fries with egg (like 8 eggs scrambled and thrown on top). It was magical. The nachos definitely top freebird's nachos. The line is usually shorter at cucas than freebirds too and if you're a bitch like me, you can phone the order in while you're walking there (or waiting in line at 2 am) and then walk right up to the counter and pick it up. They never actually have it ready, but when you go to the counter and ask for it, they start making it, so basically you cut everyone in line. Yeah it's bitch, but when you're trashed and want some nachos it makes complete sense. Update (1/16/07): I was in SB for business and stopped by on my way back up to the bay, got my favorite burrito, chips and a large horchata. My buddy took me to Super Cuca's when I was visiting him one time. Usually, we would go to Freebirds, but he said Cuca's was better, so we went there. It was not. The staff knowingly served a chicken dish in place of a vegan dish without any warning. When we confronted them, they only offered a refund after a lengthy argument. The breakfast burritos here are simply some of the best I've ever had, I love chorizo, and they have a breakfast burrito with Chorizo aaaaand Eggs. Madness, i know sheer madness. Their other stuff is good too but man is that breakfast burrito awesome. On the flipside their tortially chips kinda suck and they're not free which is pretty lame. Maybe it's the memory of Freebirds, but Super Cuca's nachos aren't as good as Freebirds. However, service is quick and efficient. They do have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, and they are more conveniently located to DP. But sadly, Freebirds has raised prices significantly since I was in college here so we opted for the cheaper option. Their carne asado nachos are good, but still lacking in some flavor. I used to live on DP last year and this place was the closest place and on the weekends, open all night (I don't know if that's still true). Their burritos are big and they come out fast. They also have other stuff that you wouldn't find at Freebirds (enchiladas, tequitos, etc.). I must admit though, their nachos were never as good as Freebirds. The staff has always been really nice. Also, there was never much of a wait. My favorite thing about Super Cucas was their breakfast burritos! They have a great selection of what you can put in it. I may be biased as I lived within probably 2 minutes of walking distance from Cucas for over a year. A great alternative to Freebirds, in my opinion. Cucas is cheaper and less crowded, although I'll give Freebirds the slight edge on nachos. Not authentic, not the best food, but always hits the spot when your drunk or on some other substances that might give you the munchies. Big portions, some of the best breakfast burritos, and pretty chill staff. Fries and meat (carne asada fries) there are probably the best drunk food I've ever eaten...drunk - and sober too. Al pastor is a good alternative. *Super Nachos* vs. *Fries and Meat* It's a toss-up, both are similar and delicious. It depends on how hungry you are, if you are sharing, or if you plan on taking some home for a snack later. They separate the container lids "for here" orders to save money, which makes transporting leftovers difficult. If you dine in but anticipate not being able to finish, make sure you say "to go" so you can keep your lid. *Burritos* The combo burrito is huge and is filled with veggies (including zucchini) along with meat. California burritos and the chorizo breakfast burritos are also good. *Service* Cuca's wins hands down over Freebirds in this category. Freebirds is like a factory, an assembly line. This place is underrated. Super Cucas has a vast menu, quick and friendly service, a relaxing atmosphere, and great food. Some items are on the expensive side (not really for Isla Vista standards though), but what's cool is that there is a different item on sale every day of the week. On Sundays, their delicious California burrito is on sale (for about ~$7-8 if I recall), with guacamole included. Out of all the Mexican restaurants in Isla Vista, Super Cucas easily has the best California burrito. It's warm, filling, and has a ton of delicious vegetables packed in there. Moreover, the complementary sauces Super Cucas provides are downright amazing. There are some other good items on the menu, but do yourself a favor and get the California burrito. read more

Ordered the carne asada burrito to have one of my out of town friends try West Coast Mexican food for their first time. It was just as I was hoping for...delicious. Three crispy tacos plate at 11am on Sunday with Hubs. One each of grilled chicken, pastor, carnitas. Annoyingly, cheese added despite my request to hold it. Chicken was hard, probably cooked the day before, and not even warm. Carnitas and pastor were fine, as were the generous dollops of guacamole and sour cream. Shells seemed a little stale, darn. We were the only ones there when we walked in, but by the time we left, the place was populated with around 15 hung over IV young 'uns chowing down on huge breakfast burritos and tortas. This place does not get enough hype. Their burritos are much better than freebirds and cost a lot less. Everything here tastes fresh and delicious. I love the California burrito, and breakfast burritos are incredible too! The best part about this place is the FRESH pressed juice until 2pm! I watch them pull out fresh vegetables from the fridge and juice it right in front of me. You can even adjust what you want to be added in them. One time my friend went and she mentioned to the cashier that she was trying to get over a cold. The lady making the juice overheard and told her she would put extra oranges and ginger in it for her! I just thought that was the most wonderful thing! The downside is that the juices are expensive, but for the freshness factor I'll take that over the bottled crap any day! read more
