I avoid supermarkets as much as possible. I can't stand the bright lights, the screaming kids and the price gouging that goes on. That said, Renaissance isn't your typical supermarket so, for it, I make an exception.
This is a small and compact mecca of foodie delights. Sure you can get all your typical household items (toilet paper, washing up liquid and shampoo) but think of anything else - bread, milk, cheese, chocolate... and not only will you find the common brand names but an interesting assortment of gourmet, imported and/or organic options. You can buy dairy products from Schultz, bread from the likes of Zealey Bay, dips from Pilpel, icecream from Gundowing and don't even get me started on the chocolate selection... I always need to avoid that aisle lest I throw 100 bars of Simon Coll 70% cocoa in my basket.
It's a great place to stock up on all your favourite epicurean delights while also grabbing those boring household essentials.
The wine and booze selection is adequate if you desperately need something but don't expect to find unusual bottles here. This is the one area that doesn't seem to have been blessed with the same attention to detail. read more
