We were initially a bit daunted by the pre-adoption application which has several open-ended questions to fill out; much more involved than any other shelter I'd adopted from. We applied on a Thursday and received an email Friday informing us our pre-adoption was approved. Since there was an adoption event on Saturday we were able to pick up our new furry friend the next day - meaning that from application to pick up was less than 48 hours. Our experience at the shelter, where the cats are housed in their own separate house on the grounds, was fantastic. The volunteers were insanely kind to our family and let us meet the animal, take photos with him, and then we did a short informational session with volunteers. Our cat's foster mom was there and kindly told us about our new friend and sent us home with an entire grocery bag of treats and toys. One note is that there is a two week trial period where your adoption isn't finalized until that point, at which point your pet's medical records will be released. Not a bad thing, but different than other shelters I've worked with so I wanted to call it out. Overall if I were telling a friend about my experience I'd say that it's more involved and more intense than other adoption experiences I've had, but worthwhile and still incredibly efficient.

Although the people was still nice, the process of me adopting my second kitten wasn't as smooth and detailed as it used to be. I guess maybe they're understaffed or don't have much budget. I hope they get their stuffs together though because I always recommend people to adopt pets from here!

It is clean, organized and each cat is treated with individual special care. I've been adopting and volunteering at shelters my whole life across the country and this non profit really stood out. Their message is clear and their undeniable selfless love for these animals shines through most. Each cat there is so unique from tiny kittens of every breed to teenage cuties and large cats like Maine coons! The cat's kennels are set up in windows with plenty of light, play room, toys, kennel hammocks, kennel buddies so they can have ample time to socialize and with each kennel set up next to one another so they can interact with one another instead of live in solitude in a dark, windowless plastic box that I see most cats in shelters living in. They even have a fenced in courtyard with trees, grass and cute chairs where they let some of the outdoor indoor kitties get to lounge and watch birds. It warmed my heart and they could use all the help they can get from the community! The owner Mina, was telling me stories of all the ways she's helped around the city, tiny example of all the stories I'm sure she has. One story was about how she received a call from someone who had a cat giving birth outside in -10 degree weather and wouldn't come inside during and she went all the way out to rescue them all! She found homes for most but some were still there! She went into detail about how they specifically choose the right owners for the cats and anyone that might give them a bad feeling about not being a good fit they wouldn't adopt out to. That's HUGE for me. I hate seeing people unfit to adopt do it for the wrong reasons and it's a big fear of mine when fostering my own strays and giving them to shelters. They set them up with all their shots, vaccines, chip and spay/neutering. All at very low cost for a small non-profit. In all, I can't say enough about these women and what they are doing at Another Chance. I adopted my kitten from them and I hope you do too! They also except Venmo donations and volunteers! Check them out!

She was adopted once before and brought back because the family had too young of kids for a 4 month old kitty. We found Meeny at a PetSmart event that Bonner Animal Rescue was at and I fell in love. I couldn't stop thinking about that sweet kitty that I knew I was going to bring home some day and be her forever home. About 2 weeks later, we called the shelter, set an appointment, and went to the appointment ready to give a kitty her forever home and the volunteers were very nice, passionate, and most of all they loved volunteering! We were there for about an hour visiting with Meeny making sure she was the right fit for us and 5 minutes later we were signing papers. After we signed papers, we left without a cat knowing that the next day, we would have a spoiled-rotten cat that loves chicken, and went to the store and got everything she would need and went home to get everything set up for her to enter her new life! When we went back the next day to pick up our kitty, she was all ready to go and all that was left was to pick her up and get things finalized. Meeny had a little bit of a scare, she thought I looked like a dog with my hat on and she got so scared she hissed and peed on one of the owners. When I took my hat off, she was all lovey again and she was ready to go. We also had another scare with a bell she was unfamiliar with and we went all around the shelter trying to find where Meeny, a tiny kitten, had gone. We brought out some "cookies" (treats) and she came right back. Meeny was our perfect match for our small family. If you are in the Bonner area and are wanting to adopt or foster a sweet, innocent animal(s) or want to volunteer or donate, go to Bonner Animal Rescue!!
