I recently brought my Girl Scout troop of seven 10-year-olds to A and I Trails for a horseback…read moretrail ride. We let the owners, Alyssa and her mother, know beforehand that the girls were beginners and that this would be their first time riding without someone leading their horses. Some of the girls were understandably nervous. The other troop leaders and I felt that the staff seemed short-tempered with them at times, making it harder for the girls to feel comfortable and confident. Alyssa's young daughter was also there to help lead our group. Given the girls' age and lack of experience, I would have felt more comfortable with another adult helping to guide the ride. Our biggest concern was safety on the trail. We came across a downed tree, and one girl's horse had trouble getting past it when its legs became caught in the branches. Alyssa commented that if she had known the tree was down, she would not have taken us that way. That was troubling to hear. I would expect the conditions of a trail to be checked before taking a group of young beginners out on it. Later, Alyssa asked whether I thought the group could cross a creek. She did not explain that the crossing involved a hill and a large muddy area that could pose a hazard for beginner riders. One girl's horse became stuck in the mud and fell onto its side, and the girl had to jump off quickly. It was extremely frightening, and she could easily have been injured. After the horse fell, Alyssa's mother, who was riding toward the back of the group, kept yelling, "The horse broke its leg!" Of course we were concerned about the horse, but our immediate priority was making sure the girl was safe. At that moment, it felt to us as though the staff's attention was focused on the horse rather than checking on her. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the outcome could have been very different. I left feeling that the route and its conditions had not been adequately assessed for a group of young beginners. I wish the staff had shown more patience with the girls and taken greater care in choosing and leading the ride.

Well I would have loved to start my reservation at the correct time and not delay your staff. I was late 20 minutes like you were 20 minutes on my reservation. If your delay made it to where my family and I could not enjoy ourselves on the water then you should have not let us start in the first place. We were not warned that our time was being cut short.
