This is my second time going to this place. I usually fill 2 Big Green Bags I have and take it to this place at La Mirada next to Stater Bros Market. First time I got $ 16.00 dollars for the 2 bags without crusing the plastic watter bottles. Today my Second time I took the same 2 Big Green Bags with all plastic bottles and I crushed them to get more money and I tool on the side like 100 or more crushed soda cans aluminium and I got only $ 12.00. Big Rip Off , the first time a lady was there and this time a guy. What a big difference, I took way more plus the soda cans and I got way less. Trying to get more into recycling & since this location is near the Ralph's where I do some of my grocery shopping I decided to drop off a few bags of cans & glass bottles. The worker was very helpful and friendly. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes & made $6. It may not seem much but as my mom would always say, "De poquito en poquito se llena el jarrito" which in English it means "Little by little the jar is filled" (sounds better in Spanish). Overall value is ok, but more importantly I'm doing my part in making sure recyclables don't end up in the trash. With the money I'll earn from recycling I'm going to get a box and work on filling it with the $ I earn from my next recycling visits & maybe use that money towards a future adventure or have it go to savings. I recycle cans and plastic water bottles for my cousin who would normally taken them to a recycling location. However recently he had a car accident and no longer has transportation so now I'm stuck with bags and bags of recyclable items. So I searched on Yelp for a Recycle Center near my house and decided to come here. I've never turned in recycle items before so all this is new to me. I was surprised that aluminum cans and plastic bottles had to be separated, which I proceeded to do. This took done time since I had over 10 large trash bags full of cans and bottles. Once i finally finished the separation process and placing the items in the Recycle Center's containers they were weighed and I got paid. I now know the process and thanks to the helpful worker who provided me with instructions. I'll keep recycling but do the sorting at home and definitely be back here. read more

I have been coming to this recycling center for the last 2 years since moving to this area. Javier, the attendant is always very friendly and helpful. He has helped me numerous times to lift my recyclables and pour into their weighing containers. They are also open everyday! I was so excited to stumble upon this place as the closest recycling center to my house closed down back in March and has not come back. The biggest down side is you cannot see this place from Whittier Blvd so unless you go to Ralph's and exit out by the recycling center you wouldn't know it was there. That's exactly how I found out about it. Was when I was leaving Ralph's. I am not sure if it was the time of day I went but this was the first time I've done recycling in the area that did not require my waiting in a line. It was great how quick the entire process was. There is not an abundance of bins to put your plastic in so it will be more helpful if you are the only group when you arrive. The other spot I used to go to would give you a pay out slip and you'd have to go inside Stater Bros to get your money. Here they pay you right on the spot which makes it nice that there are no additional steps. read more

Came here because it's the closest recycling spot to my pad... they are supposed to open at 9am (which is already VERY late in my opinion). Got there exactly at 9am on Friday, April 30, 2021. No one there. Cool. Maybe traffic. Maybe 5 mins late. Nope! It's now 9:20 and no employee is here yet. If you're going to run a business, make sure you open when you say you're going to be open. It shouldn't be that hard, and there should be NO excuse, to get to your job when you are to open at 9am, which is not late. Now there is a line of people here waiting and it's going to take a while to get this stupid already inconvenient chore done. read more

I buy a lot of bottled water but refuse to throw the empties in the blue recycle barrel. Why should my city get the money when I've paid for the water PLUS a CRV? Also, in my community, the homeless have a habit of digging through the barrels the night before trash pick up to get whatever they can. Again...maybe I'm being inhumane but I'm not letting that money go. Many recycling places have closed/disappeared since some stupid ordinance/law was passed. Thankfully there are a few places that are still open. I tried Sunset today because quite honestly....I had about 20 trash bags of plastic bottles. Here's why I recommend this place: *It's out of the way off between Ralphs and Colima Rd. *The young man who was running the place answered my questions in a direct, no-nonsense manner. *I ended up with $50 - CASH. You don't get a Ralphs voucher. *I tipped the young man (he has a tip jar and a bottle of hand sanitizer); although in essence he was only doing his job, it was already over 90-degrees and he's working in a metal box with other people's used bottles, cans, and plastic containers. Not the most elegant of jobs but I appreciated that he was there. I have a hint - it's not a requirement but I find that if I squash the water bottles (small, medium, large if possible), you get more in the plastic containers for weighing AND they're easier to handle -especially if the container tips over. Bottles tend to roll! Overall a very positive experience. Sorry for the ramble. I will frequent Sunset Recycling Center more often and not wait for my truck bed to be filled with bags of bottles. read more

Love coming to this place. The service is always great. It has easy parking and they keep it clean.

Where do I begin? The hours on the board do not reflect the actual hours open because I waited half an hour for the attendant to return from his break. He did not leave a sign saying at what time he would come back or that he was on his break. Also, when he returned, he parked on the side and waited in his car for 15 minutes & he was not in a good mood. This time I noticed that the amount of money I received for the aluminum cans I took was about half of what I usually receive. Usually, I get about $4.00 per (full) bag of the aluminum cans and this time I had 3 .5 bags and only received $8.00 exactly. I am sure that the amount was not accurate. The other guy that works here is a lot kinder and has more people skills than the guy who was here this time. I know that in the future I will NOT come back. I much rather recycle the cans. What a waste of time & effort, it's not worth the hassle. read more

I rarely use this recycle center the people are great and customer service is outstanding props to the workers they good people.

Just want to warn people. I went here 2 months ago and received $40. This time around we had a different guy. Took 3 times more then the amount and received $35. Based on my experience the value of plastic/glass/aluminum cans went up. There's nothing we can do but just recommend people not to come here. It does not make sense. The weight stand should face the customer to see the weight to ensure the customer is getting the proper money. Guy seemed overwhelmed and no receipt was given. read more

I rarely do reviews, but in this case i have the need to do so. Arrived at this location at exactly 12:45 pm. The older guy who was there at that time said that he is taking those last 2 person in line and to comeback around 1. I understand he needs his lunch so i told him ok and we will just come back. When we came back a lil past 1. He was inside the shed. You need to look inside for you to see him. Long story short. When i saw him. I asked him if he is open already or is he still on lunch. His reply was "what do you think!?" In a very rude tone. I told him i dont need his attitude and he doesnt need to be rude. I also told him i dont know if he is back already or he is still on lunch. But this guy continued to being rude. To the point that he did not even weight some of our plastic and did not weight our glass bottles at all! Very rude!!! My son has been collecting plastic for a while now. He separated the plastic by recycle number. I saw the price list on the posted sign that a price per pound for each recycle number. We had brought recycle number 2, 5, and 7's that were labeled on the bottom of the plastic container. The attendant told me that we would only get $2 for all the plastic because it did not say CRV on the container anywhere. He said to put all of them in the orange basket which filled up 3/4 of it. He said the posted prices were only for plastic that had the CRV label on it. we had 8 full 13 gallon trash bags full of these containers and only received $2 for them. Why do they post the price per pound for each recycle number type if they do not pay it out? I looked afterwards and nowhere did it say that these plastic types had to say CRV on them to get those prices. I left feeling cheated and my son was so disappointed. I would have not accepted it, but we drove to 2 other places and this center was the only one that would even take plastic. Why is it so hard to find a place to recycle? read more

The guy cheats and does not give you the proper money you are entitled to. I went there twice and the first time he said my total came out to $15.68 but then gives me just $15 and kept the change. The second time I went I caught him not weighing one bag of water bottles. He just kicked them aside but I was watching him and I knew he didn't weigh it nor did he pay me for it. I felt bad because I'm Hispanic and he said he is from Guatemala and of course sending money back home while trying to survive here. So, the eternal question: is it better to recycle by the pound or per piece? Answer: by the piece. I asked the attendant if they paid per can, and he assured me that I would receive more money if I did it by the pound. But, just to confirm that to myself, I actually counted out the aluminum cans: 155 total. The CRV per can is 5 cents, so that means I should receive $7.75 total (155 cans x $0.05 = $7.75). I received $7.20 instead. I didn't fight it, because the whole point of this experiment was to see whether or not it was as advertised. It wasn't. If you don't really care about the price difference, especially in light of how much time it would take you to count, then it's no big deal. This review is for the folks out there who were always curious about what, if any, difference there would be, and for those who perhaps get riled up on principles. FYI: I read a couple of reviews that said that crushed cans weren't accepted, so all my cans were beautifully rounded. read more

Highly recommend this site, there was a new employee Javi who help me sort my cans n bottles before another couple of customers would show up. It's a convenient location n don't see any homeless camping near by, it's safe Area does-not smell bad like other places and I didn't have to battle with bees. I used Sunset Recycling for the first time yesterday because the Replanet location where I used to go closed down. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very easy over here, as long as you do your best to sort out your various bottles and cans into the plastic nets. The young man had a good attitude and paid in dollar bills, rounding up because he was short on coins. I did not have to go into the Ralph's to get my redemption money.
