From the initial presentation by Joe N., of what to expect from solar energy, to the actual installation of the solar panels managed by Scott, everything went extremely well. In my particular circumstance, there was a large tree that had to be removed to allow the maximum amount of sun to charge the panels. A few weeks after first meeting with Joe, the tree was removed by a local company, Walnut Tree Service. They have an excellent reputation and did an amazing job. A few days later, the new roof was installed with the style and color of shingles I selected, on the entire house rather than just the roof the panels were to be installed. The only criticism regarding the roof installation is the contractors used a white drip edge rather than brown. All of the trim on the house is brown. Two days later that same week, Scott and his crew came to install the 37 panels and complete the electrical work. The tie in to my existing circuit breaker box and equipment installed on the exterior of the house looks like a work of art. It appears very well thought out and neatly installed. Since this project was done mid November 2023, I have requested from Sunrun Customer Coordinator Kacee that the final inspection by the town and National Grid be put on hold until early spring to allow for my holiday travel and for maximum benefit of the solar panels as I begin this 25 year contract with Sunrun. I have seen the on line reviews which are overwhelmingly negative regarding this company and its customer service. So far I have been extremely impressed with their performance but will have to reserve final review until the system is up and running in the spring. CUT TO THE CHASE- I will initially pay 280.00 a month for the first year to Sunrun then it will increase 3.5% every year for the next 25 years ending at 660.00 monthly payment. Taking into account the roof replacement value , year 1 would be 210.00 and year 25 would be 590.00/month. I am keeping my fingers crossed this project and energy savings is what I have been led to believe it will be. Stay Tuned!!

    Broken roof tile!

They force you to auto pay and when you don't and send a check a week before the payment is due, that call you every day saying you owe them 20 days after the due date because they did not apply your payment to your account but still cashed the check and tell you to prove that you payed them. Plus on install they broke a whole pallets worth of tile that I had to fight them to fix and some of the ones they broke on the peak of my roof they siliconed back together but left gaps in the silicone. Horrible customer service that they outsource and the people that you talk to have no clue about anything except what is on the screen I front of them. Worst decision I have ever made on a Solar company!

Vivint Solar came and installed the panels on my house. The installers were fantastic and very professional. The process to get installed and after was also very smooth. I have had the solar up and running now for about 7 months and have not had a bill from the utility company since!

Extremely Frustrated with Sunrun's Service Delays…read more While my initial experience with Sunrun started off on a high note thanks to their exceptional sales team, the service side has been nothing short of a nightmare. My solar panels have been out of service since May 2025, and despite numerous calls and follow-ups, the earliest available service appointment isn't until the end of August--a nearly three-month delay. In the meantime, my system hasn't been generating any power, and I've been forced to pay out of pocket for electricity from the utility company--costs I shouldn't be incurring if the solar system was working properly. I expected better from a company of Sunrun's size and reputation. The lack of urgency in addressing system failures is incredibly disappointing. It feels like once the sale is made, customer support becomes an afterthought. I'm extremely frustrated and hope others seriously consider the quality of post-installation service when choosing a solar provider. Great salespeople can't make up for poor follow-through when it matters most.

This will be a long review, but I want to be thorough about what we have had to deal with. And our…read moreexperience with Sunrun lasted about 4 months for them to finally tell us that they couldn't do our solar. From the very beginning, just at the referral process, we started to have a bad experience with Sunrun. Sunrun offers its customers are $1000 gift card if they refer a friend and that friend gets solar through Sunrun. We were referred by a friend so when I went to the website to request a quote, I clicked on the option saying that I was referred. From that moment on, Sunrun tried its best to not have to give that incentive to the person who referred us. It took multiple phone calls, many texts, and my sales person, Roman, had me email the company directly, explaining exactly how we got involved with them. Roman just didn't want to do it. In the meantime, we had our first home visit from Roman, to talk about options. For the first meeting, they set up a preliminary report on your homes' solar potential based on a satellite photo, probably from Google. Roman was enthusiastic, but he only thought we would get about 50% of our electricity from solar because of trees. He explained that we probably wouldn't get solar unless they could get that percentage up. So the salesman told us that they would remove trees at their expense from our property to get a percentage up for us. At that meeting, he also said that we would have solar by the end of spring, which we were expected about. The second step was having another person come to the house to take indoor photos of our electrical system, take drone footage and get measurements. This was February and it had just snowed so I warned them that it might be hard to see and dangerous to be on our roof because our roof is white PVC and the snow is white. They assured me it would be fine. They were wrong and had to send another technician out at a later date to do it again. Our sales agent kept trying to come back over to the house Insisting that would be better than a phone meeting, but we declined because he stayed so long at the first meeting. So we did our second meeting on a video call. At that time they had a more accurate assessment of our roof situation and our electrical panels. He said they would no longer be able to take down the trees for us. We would have to do that at our own expense, because our electrical panel needed work, even though I explained to him that our electrical panel was only about four years old. Roman was unable to answer, almost any of our questions about the report. For the next several weeks, I called and texted with Roman while he still could not answer the questions we had. Then he ghosted us. So I called Sunrun directly a couple of times, reiterating our experiences so far and asking for a new sales person because he was not answering our questions and had already backed out on part of what they promised. Instead of calling me back, the "Senior Regional Sales Director", Eric Goodell, called my husband directly. Which I found disrespectful as I had been the contact person from the beginning. Eric answered some of the questions with my husband and said that they would be getting back to me this time directly as my husband requested, within a couple of days. Then we never heard anything again for several weeks. So I called Eric directly which he said that we could do. He didn't remember any of the specifics of the job so I had to go over everything with him again and then he remembered that he had passed it back to Roman to follow up with us with the info he gave him. Which he never did. So I explained again how much trouble we had had with Roman and said that we did not want him because he couldn't answer our questions. He then assured me that he was taking over our case and would handle it personally and he would try to fast track it since we had already waited so long. So again, we were excited, thinking that we would have solar soon. He had lots of questions for me, all things that I had already answered multiple times. After about a week and many more texts, he finally got back to us saying that they couldn't do the solar at all because of our PVC roof. That was something that I had said from the very beginning, that our roof was two years old, brand new PVC. When I said that they had wasted months of our time, and I asked why they don't work on PVC, Eric ghosted me. No explanation on why they do not work on PVC, which is something I would like to know because we do still want solar. No explanation on why they waited four months to tell us this when I told them from day one what our roof was made out of. And no apology of any kind about wasting all of our time. We are now back at square one when we should already have solar up and running per the timeline, they gave us. What a horrible company to deal with. Liars, terrible communicators, and just shady business practices.

Plagued by constant delays and miscommunication. After installation in June, we were told inspections would follow quickly, but weeks passed without updates. We had to chase down responses constantly, often being ignored for long stretches. In August, their technicians caused a power outage affecting our pool systems, then told us to hire our own electrician to fix it - despite it being their error and admitting they they did not know how to fix it themselves after two separate visits. Multiple site visits were required because Bright Planet failed to correctly configure the backup system, even assigning unnecessary loads like pool lights instead of essentials like our refrigerator and a/c. Meanwhile, holes were left in our roof after the panel install and the crew's trash on our roof -- unaddressed for months. We sent dozens of emails - many of them cc'd with project managers and company leadership -- asking for scheduling updates, status checks, and answers. Often, we were met with no response, or vague promises that "someone would reach out." Even after city inspection passed in October, we were stuck in limbo with no updates on when the system would actually be operational. The experience was defined by poor communication, careless mistakes, and a complete lack of ownership or urgency. We had to escalate internally just to get answers. What should have been an exciting investment turned into a nearly year-long headache. We're sharing this to warn other homeowners: Bright Planet Solar is not equipped to manage your solar project responsibly or professionally. They will take little to no responsibility to your frustrations. The entire process lacked coordination, transparency, and accountability. They are not equipped to manage your solar project with care, professionalism, or basic follow-through.

Ultimately I settled on on a mechanically mounted system for my flat roof, which was wonderful. Some vendors would not touch a flat roof. Some only installed ballasted systems. Some vendors assumed that they could use a lift to get onto my roof when they actually needed a crane. Some just wanted to overcharge me with the hot new technology, sweeping the nation. After reviewing multiple bids, I settled on Sunbug to install my system. Chris Miller was a no nonsense saleman throughout my whole research phase. He answered all of my questions, and disabused me of any misinformation I may have had. He was polite, but firm, which is exactly what a layman consumer needs when making a large, delayed gratification purchase like a solar system. Once I signed on the dotted line, their team actually moved fairly quickly through the rest of the process. We were able to install my system before the end of the tax year, so some of that delayed gratification is delayed just a little less. I would give a five star review, but there were a few hiccups. Once I signed the dotted line, the team was less responsive than I needed with my subsequent questions. They installed the inverter in my basement without my input, which is a problem when I plan to finish my basement. We quickly fixed that by simply moving it, but we could have avoided that problem altogether by filling me in on the plan first. I chalk that up to some disorganization, and rushing to complete systems before the end of the tax year. Another silly issue is that their electrician upgraded me to a 200A panel, which is wonderful. For some reason though he reinstalled the same 100A main breaker I originally had, which makes no sense. Now I have to pay some one else to upgrade my main breaker. A month later I am actually still waiting for an inspector to check off on their work so that I can turn the system on, but that may be more an issue with the inspector than with Sunbug. In any event, I am mostly pleased with my purchase, and look forward to bathing my roof in sun shine in the coming years.

Because of the style of our house, we were also told in no uncertain terms that the insulation would have to be put in from the interior of the home. So we spent weeks preparing by pulling everything off the walls and packing up my husband's small collectibles and moving all of the furniture in every room to the center. And we had to remove the beautiful real wood paneling in our dining room so that they wouldn't drill into it. It's the good stuff, not the cheesy 70s stuff. When the insulation company came, they drilled holes in four different rooms. Every room had insulation. We then had to patch and paint every hole and put everything back where it came from. It was a horrible experience with very little in the way of an apology from the company. When the team came to do the insulation and discovered that it wasn't needed, they asked who had done the evaluation, and when we said Brian, they said that that made sense. Apparently this isn't the first time that something like this has happened to someone. That is shameful! They did nothing to help our energy consumption.
