Why Sunrun is an unethical company and does not repair broken systems after months of downtime: Since two multi-months downtimes in 4 years indicates a chronic quality issue, I checked Sunrun's financials. Sunrun existing customers are loyal at the point they signed a contract. Sunrun average contract life remaining is approximately 17.9 years. While the company boasts that it demonstrates the commitment of its customer base, it is due to their business model. Customers like me, who choose to prepay for their solar lease in full, will be ignored. There is no way to legally get out of the 25-year lease, and in public filing I am counted as a loyal customer. Next, since the recurring multi-months system down time are both attributed to lack of spare parts inventory: (holding cash in inventory is a bad)..I noticed the company's initiative to reduce inventories. ($460 Mil in 2023 Vs. $784 mil in 2022). Since Wall Street rewards for revenue growth, (The company with a 15% increase in its customer base year-over-year), prioritizing parts inventory for NEW installation is logical. As far as down installations of existing customers? Well, they are locked in and the most they can do is complain (which is noise). Garbage company. Had the solar installed in December 2022 and it still isn't fully functional in August 2023. Their customer service just basically ignores all requests. Was told I wouldn't have to start paying for the panels until I got PTO from the utility but I'm paying for them already and have yet to get PTO from the utility, so not getting any reimbursement for the power I push back to grid. DO NOT USE SUNRUN!! It has been nothing but a nightmare. I don't even know where to begin. Started with Vivint in 2014. After panels were put on, a big rain came and had a big leak in the bedroom from tiles improperly installed. 2021...we were repeatedly called and texted about getting more solar panels installed to alleviate the PG&E tru-up. Finally gave into the process and since then, the nightmare began! So many docu-sign material. I think we had to repeat that whole process at least 3 or 4 times. Long story short, what was installed was not at all what we were told. The whole system looks horrible, they had to install new electrical panel (which looks horrible and can't even open properly), the stucco has been damaged, holes not filled in and now rodents are getting in, roof tiles broken, brand new rhododendron plants were trampled, landscaping disregarded. The home was definitely not as it was before. STILL after a year I'm still trying to get things resolved. Last week a sunrun roofing person did come to check the tiles and took pictures. Definitely tiles damaged (some they glued). Now they need to find tiles that are comparable to what we have (90's tiles) and then come back. Hard telling how long that will take now. Trying to get in touch with anyone at sunrun is nearly impossible. When you do talk with someone, they tell you they will call back and never do. Communication is horrible. Nothing. Getting movement on our installation and activation from Sunrun was like pulling teeth with tweezers. Highlights - their truck knocked down our retaining wall (still not fixed by their so called insurance); the install failed city inspection 3 times; our electric panel has to now be forcible opened and closed; our panels were turned off fir a full week for no apparent reason a couple weeks after they finally started working. Currently working with a lawyer to at least get them to pay to have the damaged retaining wall fixed. Overall, their customer service ends once you pay the money at the very start. Wish we had heeded other reviewers warnings before working with them. Would give minus 5 if possible. read more

After installation the solar stopped working. Sunrun didn't know it had stopped until I reported it to them. I went 3 months without the solar working. I had a $900 true up after. Now I am having the same issue again. I only had the solar for a little over a year. The company sent me instructions to fix the issue. I started with Vivint they sold the company to Sunrun, I went with it because my neighbor had a great experience. It has been awful for me. Constantly being told I need inspections or they are waiting on Edison. I call Edison they have everything they need, it's Sunrun who is god awful. You call they can't find your acct., then when they do they give you the run around. I have emailed my rep Juan, I have sent text messages he does not reply. WARNING: DO NOT USE SUNRUN FOR SOLAR! (part 1 of 2) This review is to warn anyone even thinking about using Sunrun to go solar. AVOID Sunrun at all costs. I have had a terrible experience with this company. I believed that this was a reputable company since Costco backs them. I started the process with Sunrun in March 2021 and everything seemed great. The sales person was nice and explained the entire process to me. They even said that the solar would be functioning before I made any payments. Sunrun came out within a few weeks of starting the process to conduct a site survey. During this survey, they informed me that they would need to drill into the ground (pavers in my backyard) near the house for one grounding wire. They spray painted a small square where this would go and told me the rod would stick out of the ground a few inches. Fast-forward to May 6, 2021, where all the electrical was installed in preparation for the solar panels, including an upgraded electrical panel. This is where I was informed that not one, but two grounding wires would be needed to be drilled into the ground. They drilled into the pavers in a different location from where it was marked during the site survey. The first two holes they drilled hit the concrete foundation and were not deep enough. They had to drill an additional two holes a few inches further away from the house. When they were done, the left these holes open (about the diameter of an adult size thumb). Having little kids, I filled the holes in myself. The stucco around the new electrical panel was also left open. I was told it needed to be like this until the city inspection was completed (more on this later). The LG wall battery that I included in my project was backordered at the time. This battery became available and was installed June 15, 2021. Sunrun came back out a few days later and took photos of the project before city inspection. The city inspection took plate August 6, 2021. By this time, I had started making payments for the solar project. The installation that Sunrun performed DID NOT pass the city inspection. I was told that a few on/off switches for the inverter boxes needed to be installed and the stucco around the panel needed to be completed (contrary to what I was told before). I felt that a company that installs solar should know how to properly install the solar to pass inspection but apparently not. I called my project manager and informed him that the project failed inspection and that it was unacceptable. He gave me a generic answer apologizing and told me he would send a message to someone. On a side note, Sunrun will change your project manager as you progress (term used lightly) through the installation process. This was frustrating because not everyone is familiar with the project. It's also impossible to get a hold of the project managers. They don't reply to emails and the numbers they provide are a generic phone number that always tells you that your manager is not available. It gives you the option to leave a message for them (which they don't respond to) or to speak to another representative (this option leaves you explaining all your problems to someone new and only gets you to them leaving a message for your project manager who will never call you back). This even happened when I called to speak to my project manager's supervisor. I was promised a call back and never got one. Sunrun finally sent someone out to fix the items that were needed to pass inspection and the next inspection took place September 1, 2021. The project finally passed inspection. By this point, I had made three payments for the solar project on top my summer electric bills. September 20,2021 I received DocuSign paperwork from Sunrun to be sent to PGE for approval to activate the system. One month goes by of me contacting my project manager with updates, only to get general responses saying that he has sent messages to the "interconnection team" for an update. I was given an estimated activation date of October 22, 2021. On October 26, 2021 I get an update that there was an issue with the paperwork and I was sent another DocuSign email to sign. We have had issues with solicitors and JW's knocking on our door in the past, so we have not one, but two signs stating that we want NO SOLICITORS period and under no circumstances! Well, three very unprofessional men came and knocked and said "your neighbor Chris said we could come by:". (We have Ring, so if Sun Run needs to know who in their company is irritating potential customers let us know:) We do have a neighbor Chris, but his wishes do not over rule ours on our property. SunRun purchased our original solar company (Vivint). We had always experienced excellent customer service with Vivint with quick resolution of problems, but SunRun's customer service is abysmal. We needed to get the panels removed for roofing repair and contacted them to initiate removal. Our contract stated 30 day notice for removal, but we are well past that and I have received zero communication from them. Multiple contacts with their customer care service or direct calls to office staff have resulted in nothing. Avoid working them at all costs and if your solar company gets bought out, prepare for an end to customer service. read more

Well it wasn't an air pocket or grease ; it was the equivalent of black jack ; the sealer used to plug the holes on the roof and to seal the hardware attachments of the support brackets . It took several applications of warm water and dove liquid detergent to gently remove from the panels with a soft microfiber cloth . It demonstrated that the installation was sketchy . It took 4 rainy days and a 15" wet snow storm to wash the panels to get rid of the mud, grime & grass debris from the installation process. In addition there are numerous scratches on the panels from rough handling during installation. Other solar companies I've seen set up a table with some type of moving blankets to lay the glass side down on but not Sunrun ....certainly disappointing ...you can judge for yourself from the photos I posted. read more

It's taken them 2 months to fully transfer service and endless calls/emails on my end to get it done. My Transfer Coordinator has been MIA the entire time. Won't respond to any calls. The transfer finally went though this week and today they sent me a past due collections notice. The incompetence of the people who work at this company is unreal. I haven't even received my first bill or have any information on the account. I just now got online access and it's a blank account with no information in it. To start of, I am pro-solar. Everyone should get solar, it's smart for your money, and it's smart for the planet. That said: there are alternatives to Sunrun. If I could, I would've gone with Tesla. I had to go with Vivint, who got bought out by Sunrun. I received my PTO on Friday and followed the directions to turn on the breaker, quick disconnect, and inverter. No production. I called the CSR and was told to wait 24-48 hours, yes, electrons need 24-48 hours to work. I'm an engineer by training, so I know they're just trying to buy time. Sure, waiting till Monday the following week. Still no production. I called again and requested an escalation, was promised a call by the end of the day. Nothing. Alright, sent my rep an email and was told that she'd file a work order but there's a queue. By Wednesday, I'm already beyond infuriated because nobody's still assigned to me. This is costing me money, but of course they don't care. The level of incompetence is insane. Monica, you are my rep. If you read this, you know who I am. The issue is still not resolved as of right now. Whoever designed your commissioning process is terrible at their job. This is not SCE's fault for giving me my PTO early, it's your company's incompetence that's the issue. The lesson is: go with Tesla, I wish I could. I heard good things from my friends who got solar through Tesla. Edit 11/4/2021: I give credit where it's due. Technician did go out when they promised. However, to get to this point, I did have to put my foot down and escalate the issue to the higher ups and raise hell. The lesson is that if you do that, they will take care of the issue for you, in this case, the commissioning of the inverter box. Lesson learned for you Vivint/Sunrun: 1. Obtain the PTO for new construction projects prior to the owner moving it, then transfer it to the new owner after they had moved in. Don't wait until the owner moves in. This will do wonders to the new home owners. 2. Commission the inverter box prior to PTO, don't make the new owner deal with that! I'm raising it from a 1-Star to a 3-Star after the tech comes out. We had "Sunrun" company over to sell us their solar, Patrick, the salesperson was nice and very polite, typical sales person. This attitude lasted until we were wary of the reviews that we read and I had questions about the cost to run going up every year, whereas, my sister in Arizona had the same company with NO increases yearly. The salesperson did text back that he would address my concerns and questions shortly and why it's advantageous even for seniors to install solar. That was the last time we heard from him! I even texted him, letting him know that I hadn't heard from him as yet (Just in case there was a legitimate reason) from that point on I heard nothing!!! Sunrun sucks.... In Aug 2019, i have had installed Sunrun solar system thru Costco. In Apr 2020, the Sunrun inverter was totally out, and Sunrun took 4 months to replace the broken inverter without any solar production during the waiting days. In July 2021, the Sunrun inverter was out of order again. After my immediate request, until now after being waiting for more than 1 month, no one from Sunrun has ever call me to set up an appointment to repair or replace the broken Sunrun inverter ever.... They have installed solar panels on four corner of my brand new roof and in order to connect them to each other, they have run galvanized pipes all over the roof rather than running them inside the attic and their explanation is that it would've been too much work to run them through attic. One star...two more than they deserve. I had to pay WEC 300$ for another meter...never mentioned that during the pitch, and that is the smallest problem with these liars. This is a deceptive and dishonest company that only cares about how many installs and contracts they can do...not caring if it is done correctly to the home they put their panels on, and they refuse to correct their errors when confronted that the installation is wrong, creating a severe and imminent hazard to my home. One panel is 2 inches from the other roof that makes up the valley, and when the snow comes to Cabot, and it will come to my house, at 2000ft elevation, it is going to rip the roof off my home that the panels are attached to when it slides, or build up so deep that it poses the threat of collapsing. I heat with wood, and cannot access my chimney to clean it, because the panels are in the only way up to the chimney. I have the diagram of what the installers were supposed to do, and it does not look anything like what was done. 4 panels were supposed to go on the garage, but all 12 got stuffed onto one roof on the house. I have been lied to repeatedly when trying to seek a solution to this abomination of an installation. When I pointed out to the installers that this is not right, on the day of the install, I was told they were done for the day, and would come back. Never did, and never had any intention of fixing their erroneous, incompetent job. These guys could not count their bolts or nuts twice and come up with the same number. I have asked Nelson, the sales guy for help, over a month ago, and was told that something would be done...well "something" was done....I have been put off and ignored...that is "something"!! A tech was scheduled to come out for a communications problem. I went 4+ months not being able to see what the system was doing. I was told a time frame I HAD to be home for this visit to fix the communications problem. I waited, and waited, and when the time window was up, at 5pm, I called the company to see what the deal was, and was told the time window was in Pacific time, not Vermont time. Really?!? 3000 miles away?!? I missed an afternoon of work for nothing. Might as well have used GMT as a reference. He finally showed up, a couple hours later. The tech photographed the job done by the install crew, acknowledging that the job was done incorrectly, and promised he would start the process for the panels to be moved. Nope...nuthin..not a peep after. In 'fairness'.....they gave me a credit of half what income I lost. The communications problem was not rectified until a couple weeks ago. I have tried for 6 months to get this hazard corrected. I was told the legal department had to review the issue, and they would get back to me within 3business days. That was a month and a half ago...nary a peep from anyone. The install crew did not have to contact Legal to change the agreed upon specific design that they were sent up here to install. I've stopped paying my monthly bill until this is corrected. If you go with the lease program, you're stuck with what you get, even if it is wrong. I get several calls a day about my past due bill, but nothing about correcting the incompetence of the install crew...lots of peeps about me being past due...sometimes 3 or 4 calls a day from spoofed VT numbers from a call center on the other side of the country. I tell them I'll make a payment when a crew shows up to move the panels that are endangering my home. I really wish I had never done business with this dishonest company. They represent the worst of the worst. They will tell you anything to get you signed up, and then leave you flapping on the breeze with NO support, and a product you pay for that is a hazard that they refuse to remedy, or even acknowledge. I bought a house and this company took my signature and put me in a 25 years contract without my knowledge. They make me sign a "transfer contract" so that they can provide me with the information of the prior owner. The old house owner didn't know he was in a contract, his realtor didn't know he was in a contract, the tittle company didn't know he was in a contract. I gave them a couple of days to work a deal so that I can keep the solar panels and they keep saying that is only for "new customer", I am a NEW CUSTOMER. They are all rude over the phone keep harassing my wife phone even though I am asking them not to contact us any more. Please be warned! I purchased my solar system back in 2016. Ever since then my bill has been continuously increasing by SCE. It started out at about #1000 a year extra and now I pay an extra $3000 a year on top of my Sunrun bill. I was told that my system would generate a little over 10k kwh a year. I get credit for about 4800kwh a year with SCE. When I call Sunrun they say they have no control over this!! If that is the case, then why wouldn't you inform your customer in the beginning??? They also say I probably using more than I used to, but since then I have installed all new energy efficient equipment. (water heater, new HVAC, new washer/dryer ect.) It is all just a scam! These guys have been to my house four different times. Each time I've told them no thank you, I'm not interested. They've always been very rude and pushy, like a cult. For instance, I open the door and tell them I'm not interested, thank you and have a nice day and close my door. Then they knock again and start trying to sell me (even though they say it's not sales). The last time the guy was very obnoxious and knocked on my door five separate times. Installation 11/2 yrs before completed and did not work after completed until now which it would be 2yrs. I am paying for the Solar panel plus the rising cost of Edison electricity. The installation was chaotic no one knows whats going on the project when i called who is in charge of the project i have to call multiple times. Worst solar company ever! There salesmen are misleading and do not explain the contract in detail to the person signing. The salesman had my daughter sign my name to the contract and this should be illegal. My bills for Sunrun and SDGE actually ended up being $2000 more in one year time than just having SDGE. How does this make sense? Now since March 8 my solar panels are not producing anything. Sunrun says it is an inverter. Really no fix from them in 2 months time. I have talked to other people that have other brands and pay nothing in electricity costs to the power company. I will be reporting them to BBB and the Consumer Protection Agency. read more

We purchased Sunrun solar panels and a battery through Costco in 2019. Our battery went out at the end of January 2021, the company is supposed to monitor our equipment, they apparently don't. I found out myself that it was out in February, the next available appointment was not until the middle of March and they just sent an email saying they needed to reschedule for April. This company will do everything they can to get you to sign their contract but beware, after you do they could not careless about you. They were to install extra paper on the roof which we are paying to have repaired through Sunrun they were going to install new vents the old vents got put back on we are still waiting to have our roof repaired!
