The sales staff would regularly use her to pitch the facility to families shopping around for assisted living facilities. Staff routinely parked themselves in the big recliner in her apartment to chat and relax with a resident who could carry on in-depth, pleasant conversations. Mom was given one of the best rooms at the facility because, at the time, it was barely occupied, and the salesperson wanted to fill the units. In return, Mom did her spend-down with T.O. (thousands of dollars), effectively depleting what savings/resources she had left after the death of my father. Then, as planned, she enrolled in the New Choices Waiver Program, with most of her SS check going to the facility every month, along with her Medicaid reimbursements. Over the next several years, T.O. managed to fill its units, and Mom's one-bedroom apartment began to look like a cash cow occupied by a resident who could not afford to pay the "market" price. The administration will likely claim they gave Mom the first right of refusal, offering to keep her in the unit if she could pay the full fee, which, of course, was impossible. In effect, they evicted her. Worse yet, the so-called studio units they offered as a replacement (which are little more than hospital rooms) were also priced beyond her financial reach and that of most Medicaid clients. Mom's contributions to the facility and her history as a resident were not taken into account. Mom's actual mental health and clinical needs took a back seat to the promise of financial gain. Like everything else in America today, money proved to be the most important consideration. My sister and I were also dragged through a hellish process for months, during which offers were made, then retracted, contradictory and false information was given, and little genuine empathy was offered. At first blush, T.O. looks less institutional and more "homey" than many assisted living facilities. Ironically, there is a cold, unfeeling attitude at its center.

Mr. & Mrs. Kim have created a wonderful community and the caregivers they have on staff make the community that much more wonderful. Some places I toured before deciding on Twin Oaks felt so cold and sterile; that is definitely not the case with Twin Oaks. You walk into the building and there is such a welcoming and warm environment, it ceases being a building and really does feel like home. The caregivers at Twin Oaks truly care about all of the residents and treat them like they are their own family member; that care also extends to residents' families as I can attest to as I spent the last days/weeks of my mother's life there as an honorary resident. While their primary focus was on my mother, where it most definitely was needed, they also made sure that I was taken care of. Words can never truly convey the immense gratitude I have for everyone at Twin Oaks. You made the last year and a half of my mother's life comfortable and as free of worry as possible.

They notify you of any falls or behavior issues. My mom had dementia. She got scared and angry sometimes. I don't feel they are equipped to handle these issues. On June 5,2017 she had an episode that they couldn't handle and she was sent by ambulance to the hospital where she sat in their ER all night with my son since all her children live out of state. She was then moved to a rehab hospital in Orem where my son and nephew couldn't visit her. She died alone June 11,2017. Since my mom left Alta a Ridge on June 5, and passed on June 11, I spoke with Meghan who appears to be in charge, about a partial refund. She said she would figure it out the next day and call me. I have called and left messages for her three other times, she has not returned the calls. My mom has been gone for 90 days. My only recourse appears to be to warn others of the way they handle situations and the lack of response after a loved one passes. Update: still have not heard back from anyone at Alta Ridge. Update: I finally received a refund

Each facility has their strengths and variables they need to work with to improve as no place is perfect. When searching for a facility, I recommend: talking with other residents; talking with ALL staff -- aides, med techs, nurses and administration; sample the foods; and, go visit during evening and weekend times. I have been pleasantly surprised to find that our clients --- time and time again -- are thriving! I have been able to approach a weekend employee and they are able to 'share a story a client shared with them.' This tells me the employee took the time to sit and listen to the resident. This small act reaps HUGE rewards as most of our elderly have increasingly physical limitations and challenges but they have their "life lessons" and they have an abundance of wisdom to share and trust me the majority of our folks what to share. Alta Ridge has been going through managerial changes and thus they have hit some speed bumps but they are working on fixing those speed bumps. What matters is they are actively doing and not just talking.... Alta Ridge is a wonderful facility no matter which of the 3 you choose --- if I could change 1 thing (besides the few speed bumps fixed more quickly than possible --- MORE ROOMS!

The staff at this facility is so compassionate and caring that I know, without a doubt, that my father is getting the best care. When I arrive to see him, he is alway dressed and well groomed. He is well fed and the meals are delicious and nourishing. The rooms at the Namaste center are beautiful and spacious. The facility does NOT smell of urine or other unwelcome odors. Every staff member knows my name and is genuinely is happy to see me when I come to visit. They care for my dad like they would care for a member of their own family. The nurses at this facility are angles of mercy in every way. If you are looking for memory care for a loved one, this is the place. I highly recommend Crescent Namaste Memory Care.

Since I am a resident of Salt Lake City, I began searching for a care center so she could be moved here, and I could manage her care. I feel extremely fortunate to have found Crescent Senior Living Center in Sandy, UT. This facility is everything it claims to be and more. The staff is professional and extremely attentive to all of her needs. In addition to the facility being kept clean and comfortable, it offers almost daily activities for the residents to participate in and fosters a family-like atmosphere. I have been very happy with the Crescent Senior Living Center and the care they have provided my sister. I would strongly recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for quality care for a loved one.

My parents lived in assisted living at Spring Gardens for just five months. My initial impression…read morewas that it was a beautiful, clean, friendly place with caring, dedicated staff. The receptionists quickly learned my name and always greeted me warmly when I came.The kitchen and cleaning staffs were amazing - always cheerful and kind to the residents and their guests The c.n.a.s and med. techs were attentive and patient with my aging parents. There were many fun activities and outings, and the food was usually quite good. (I especially enjoyed the salad bar.) I appreciated that meals were available from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m - very accommodating. I was also very impressed with the various entertainment, especially during the Christmas holiday. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the Valentines dance in February! Beyond all of that, the thing I loved most at Spring Gardens was the wonderful residents who warmly welcomed my parents and took the time to get to know them and befriend them! As the weeks went on and my parents began to settle in, I started to notice some areas which had room for improvement. Services we had signed up and paid for were not always being done, and/or my parents would be charged for services, like laundry, that we did not sign up for. There was also a LOT of pressure from administrators to change my parents' primary caregivers to the in-house medical staff. Though convenient, it quickly became an obvious conflict of interest. Another concern was the staff's lack of training on "redirecting" residents with dementia. (Mom has Alzheimer's.) One staff member told me that when there was training offered, very few staff attended. (Why wasn't such training mandatory?) When it came time to move Mom to memory care, my family spent several hours, on different days, in the Spring Gardens memory care unit observing the way the residents were cared for. I found the atmosphere very different from assisted living. Of course a great deal of that had to do with the diminished cognitive abilities of the sweet residents there, but even more so was the stark difference in lighting, furnishings, layout, and activities. There was minimal natural light and the common area was small and cramped. Residents were almost always found sitting in front of a t.v. Rarely did we see them engaged in activities. The unit always felt understaffed and lacking. The bottom line. If your loved one does not have dementia, then Spring Gardens is a lovely place to live, though not perfect. However, if your loved one needs, or will soon need, the additional attention of memory care, I suggest looking elsewhere.
