Several years ago I was looking for a yellow lab female I was told it would be about 4 months before the next litter so they asked for a $500.00 deposit and I would have pick of the litter on the next yellow litter. I sent the deposit . Over a year later I called and was told they still had no yellow pup available for me. I requested a refund and was told they did not give refunds so I said I still wanted the pup. I was ill for a while and did not hound them. They did not return any calls or offer a dog. Love my lab from here, but he has just been diagnosed with two ectopic ureters, a hereditary condition. Between the tests for diagnosis and the surgery to repair, I've spent over 10K on him. I've alerted them to the issue, so hopefully they'll do some research on the dogs used in breeding my boy - so far, the response has been "hope the surgery is successful." read more

We were blessed with our adorable Labrador Bourbon a couple of years ago. He was purchased as a puppy from Sunnyview and is now 5 years old. He has had every recommended/required vaccination at the appropriate time, kept on a heathy diet, given plenty of exercise, and very well loved and cared for. My daughter went through a rough time with anxiety/depression a few years back and our dog "Bourbon "was and continues to be a huge source of comfort to her. Bourbon developed a small lump on his shoulder a couple of months ago. We took him to our vet and had him checked out. It appeared to the vet he strained his shoulder, which made perfect sense. He had been playing with several other dogs at a park that still had some snow and ice. We followed the recommended treatment, kept Bourbon on "bed rest" and the lump started to go down. The vet told us at his follow-up appointment he looked to be on the mend. About three weeks after his follow up appointment the lump started getting large again. We took him back to the vet and got the devastating news Bourbon had cancer. We immediately got a second opinion as it did not seem possible that could be correct. They confirmed the cancer diagnosis. We then went to a Veterinary Oncologist that confirmed Bourbon had cancer, and our only options were to euthanize him, or we could run further tests and depending on those results we could amputate his leg. We of course opted to run the tests, as we hoped by some miracle the first three diagnosis were wrong. Sadly, they were correct. Bourbon being the amazing dog he is, and the incredible support he is for my daughter the choice was obvious. It was suggested by all three of the vets involved we contact the breeder and make him aware of the situation as breeders like to be informed of life shortening/threatening issues that arise in their dogs. The Sunnyview web page claims to have breed the cancer out of their dogs. The following is copied from their website: "We practice selective breeding for field trial, hunting, conformation, and unquestionable temperament. Through selective breeding we have basically zero instances of hip dysplasia and PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) in our dogs. All breeding stock are certified with OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation). Additionally, cancer, also genetic, has all but been eliminated in our bloodlines, excluding idiopathic forms." Dick Weiner's response "it's environmental, food, water, care". The only thing it was not, was anything to do with breeding. Never once did he ask about any of the extensive lab work we had done to determine the type of cancer he has, vet reports, x-rays, or for that matter what he is fed, or his environment. I am appalled at such lack of concern and pure disinterest in one of "HIS" dogs. Blaming our care (when clearly, we have no limits to loving and caring for Bourbon) and refusing to have a conversation about one of his dogs having cancer, while advertising "it's all but been eliminated from their blood lines". Our vet bills are currently well over the $5,000.00 mark to save our amazing Bourbon. We promised when we were given this incredible, beautiful dog we would love him and give him the best home possible, which we are very much doing. I caution anyone considering purchasing from Sunnyview, to consider this man's response to this situation, and consider the fact this blood line is advertised to "all but have cancer eliminated" possibly not be entirely correct. read more

We bought a yellow male lab from Dick Weiner about 3 years ago. We toured the Sunnyview Labs facility and were impressed with the breeding stock and how Dick, his wife and staff cared for the animals. We waited several months for our puppy and paid a premium price. It was worth every minute and every penny! Sunnyview's Bird Hunter is an absolutely beautiful and smart, easy to train dog. We intended to purchase two dogs, but after getting our first puppy, realized that due to our age and healthy, two puppies would be more than we could handle. Dick Weiner was very understanding and professional when told about our decision and has continued to maintain a good relationship with us. Our only regret is that we didn't meet Dick many years ago when we were younger, in better physical condition and lived in a home with space for large dogs to run. read more

This review is for buying a puppy from Sunnyview Labradors -- The dogs here seem to be taken care of well and their kennels are clean. We had been researching and meeting breeders to welcome a puppy home in May and the owner, Dick Weiner has a great sales pitch into why we should spend $2,500 on a puppy from them. We were suckered. He guaranteed us a puppy from their next litter that would be ready to come home in May. How do you guarantee this I asked? Well, there are conveniently two black females currently pregnant and if we didn't get one from the first litter we were first in line for the second litter. "It is guaranteed", he shows us our name on top of the list in his handwritten notebook, shakes our hand and we write a check $500 as a deposit in January. I saw their post on instagram that the first litter was born, then two weeks later the second. 11 puppies. I commented how excited we are that our puppy is born and to be finally puppy parents. I exchanged a few messages with them saying they would try to send photos. The last message asked if we had received a call. No, I didn't but you can call anytime. Then I get a call from Dick Weiner saying we would not be getting a puppy but that another dog is going to be bred soon and we would get one of hers. WTF??! But how?! You guaranteed us a puppy?! Completely unsympathetic to an emotional woman he said --I have been up since 3 AM with her, you think you're upset? You just put down your deposit last week there were people in line since Fall. I would never guarantee anything. -- Last week?! It's the end of March and we made a check out to you in January! He straight up lied to us then tried to turn around and call me a liar. Is he old and forgetful? A shady businessman? Did he lose his notebook? All of the above? He certainly cashed our check and he never once apologized for lying to us and had no empathy for crushing our dreams. An apology would have made the biggest difference at the time. He has since called twice to try to sway us with a new litter and that we would for sure get one. But fool me once, shame on you. I will not be shamed twice. We have since found a new breeder and look forward to picking out our puppy this weekend but working with Sunnyview Labradors has made me wary to get my hopes up and a heavy cloud hangs over this joyous occasion. 1 star for the dogs read more

I've known Dick Weiner for years and have heard of Sunnyview long before I met him. My last Black Labrador was truly special, and we had to put him down on August 21st the day of the eclipse. I began looking for a new pup in the fall of 2018. The new pup had big paws to fill, so I went straight to the best: SunnyView Labradors. If you look at the AKC breeding and lineage of other breeder's labradors throughout the state of Oregon, you will see many Sunnyview dogs in their bloodlines. My old dog even had some of their lineage. Some breeders have made a business off of breeding Dick's dogs. I had to have the best. I was put on a waiting list, and assured a pup from a litter from a Master Hunter. I paid a premium for it, but knew i was purchasing an elite lab. Dick kept in contact with me all throughout the process from the dam going in heat, to artificial insemination, to birth. We just picked up our boy and he is absolutely gorgeous. I've seen some negative reviews, and it's hard for me to understand, because my experience was wonderful. I can say that my pup came from a small litter (5). If one was on a waiting list, and there were less pups than expected, perhaps someone might have to wait for the next litter to be born. So be it. I worked there for a very brief time and witnessed the son pick up a juvenile dog by the ears OFF THE GROUND and whip him with his stick because the dog wandered away from his area over to where I was working. His howling cries made my skin crawl. When I brought this up with the dad, he brushed it off as a misunderstanding. I quit. I should have pursued legal action but I was very young and unsure of how to proceed. read more
