Lovely beach. Easy to pull up to the waterfront and enjoy the waves. Would highly recommend for a short visit but also incredibly suitable for a day at the beach. No need for 4x4. Only note, if you use the directions from Waze, ignore the final instruction to turn left just keep straight on 8 Mile Road to hit the beach!

    Really clean beach!

We were so happy to find this little hideaway not too far from Galveston. It's just a small distance past the seawall, and a lot less crowded. Very clean beach that you can drive on. Everyone was friendly and helpful!

It's a nice place for walking, fishing, or just soaking in the outdoors. The park is well kept and has a calm atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind. Overall, it's a great place to visit if you're looking to escape the city and spend some time outside.

Came here on a day pass to walk a few of the trails here. It took about 30 minutes to drive here…read morefrom downtown Galveston. The headquarters is located on the beachside and that's where we checked in. There is a bayside post with a nature center, but both were closed when we went. We were given a trail map and recommendations on which trails to check out. All the trails are mowed regularly and we didn't see any trails with overgrown grass or brush. However, some trails can be flooded or under water because of where they're located. There is a boardwalk that crosses open water but the boards didn't look stable. There was another boardwalk that was washed away from the last hurricane and hasn't been repaired yet. We were able to see a few different kinds of birds on a quiet and relaxing Thursday morning. The beach was clean and didn't have many people there. There are multiple access points to the beach from the day-use parking lot and the nearby campsites. Their gift shop offered a variety of souvenirs for purchase and the ranger was friendly when we asked her questions. We enjoyed our time and think it's a worthwhile stop to enjoy the hiking trails and beach without crowds.

Galveston Seawall Beaches - Gorgeous day at the beach in Galveston

Since moving to Texas...specifically Galveston, the first thing people say is, coming from Florida?…read moreyou must miss the beach. Honestly? I don't, because I don't compare the two. If you come here expecting Florida's clear water, you might miss what makes Galveston special. The water can appear brown at times, but that's due to natural sediment shifting with the tides, not because it's dirty. Once you understand that your whole perspective changes. What I've come to love is the experience. Walking along the Seawall, day or night, there's always something happening. Different energy, different crowds, different moods depending on the season. It never feels the same twice. Galveston's seawall beaches isn't about perfection, it's about presence. And when you meet it that way, it's actually really beautiful.

It may not be on anyone's top list of beaches to visit, but it's still a beautiful beach. A beach…read morethat has many stories to tell. It all starts with José Antonio de Evia who surveyed the land in 1783 for the Spanish governor, Bernardo de Galvez. There are also pirates in this story. Jean Lafitte and his crew of buccaneers made this island their hideaway in 1817 after discovering this beach. There was even a fortress built here in 1897. You can still see some of the remnants jutting out from the seawall. It was rebuilt after the Storm of 1900 and named Fort Crockett after Davy. Make sure you look up towards the San Luis Resort to see the Battery Hoskins bunker that is still there. The point is that it's more than just a beach made famous by a devastating storm. Sure, there are many memorials and historical markers along the seawall. There are also many fun activities such as the 61st Street Fishing Pier and the Pleasure Pier as well as art that has beautified the seawall. There's a stretch of beach between 6th and 61st street called the Seawall Interpretive Trail. About 70 concrete benches were transformed into mosaic art by Artist Boat. These pieces highlight Galveston's beaches. We didn't get to see all of it. It's a lot of beach to cover during a short stay before a cruise. We were simply mesmerized by everything around us as we were walking along the seawall across from our hotel. There were pods of pelicans flying over and seagulls on the rocks and breakaways. The view along the seawall at sunset was stunning. It was a great time to see it. It even brought back childhood memories for my husband who was born here. We enjoyed our stay on the beach even though it was a short one.
