There's also a lot of room for other things. People like to come walk their dogs. There's seriously a lot of them. Lots of dogs means lots of something else. Take a look before you step in poop. Two working water fountains. A steep hill that is all the rage among the first graders during winter snows. Plenty of benches and trees. Dogs tend to socialize here in the mornings and after work (with their owners of course). Clean, but the lawn can get a bit patchy.

Currently this isn't a very long section of paths, just including the Richard Clark Park, some boat rentals that happen at the Park and a complimentary boathouse, then The Garden dirt bike path. Right now it's just .6 of a mile if you go the whole path but I usually go back & forth so I can at least get over a mile. This is a nice little path though depending when you go, it could be a bit weird. This is clearly a spot highschool kids to smoke up. Some hide in the woods and you just get the scent hitting you. Others sit along the path eating pizzas, leaving their garbage, intimidating people walking by while blasting music. It kind of ruins the nature feeling of this place and is disappointing. Mostly because trash is left everywheeeeerrrre. I don't get why people can't clean up after themselves? And breaking bottles all over the ground is dangerous for all the pups on the paths. But also, no efforts are made on an even weekly basis to keep things looking nice. Ah well. There are apparently big plans to expand the North Branch Riverwalk announced last year but I didn't see much progress this year. Actually I see no progress and it was supposed to be done this year. https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160309/roscoe-village/cool-bike-path-that-will-soar-over-river-has-name-start-date I'll keep on watching and hoping this area improves even more!

There's tons of bench seating so it's easy to get a large group together. I've seen neighborhood fun runs organize and start their day here and just about any group that wants to gather outside can benefit from it's open space when the weather is nice. I like walking through the little red gazebo and seeing a few birds and squirrels on my way to Horner Park's farmer's market on Saturday mornings. It's nice to have so many small and very useful parks in Albany Park / Ravenswood.

Based on the kids' reactions and my keen observations, this is a great little neighborhood park. There are plenty of swings and a couple of large play systems (which I ignorantly referred to as jungle gyms...I'm so 1980.). The kids had a blast, and the other folks in the park were very friendly. Pluses for adults with or without kids: Merle's coffee shop is a half block away if you want something to sip on while watching your kids. Additionally, there is often live music on the weekends and even a play or two during the week!

Maybe the history is better than the park itself. The current features include baseball fields, basketball courts, and other facilities for playing. Before this was a park, it was site of the Nicholas Kranz homestead and inn called the Seven Mile House. It's been said that Abraham Lincoln attended a caucus of local farmers during his 1860 campaign for President. The sculptor Charles Keck created a statue. As for the other parts of the park, there's plenty to do for athletes. There's also the ADA approved playground. It has a water spray feature. This and the high school are named after Nicholas V. Senn. He was a physician and the founder of the Association Of Military Surgeons Of The United States, and was a President of the American Medical Association. The experimental research performed by him included acute pancreatitis, head and neck oncology, the intestinal tract, leukemia treatment through x-rays, and plastic surgery. Has a pretty busy location. It's on Ridge close to Clark and Thorndale. What makes visiting this park convenient for me, is that it sits not that far from Union Park. So, I am able to connect to it along with other notable places like Fulton Market District coinciding with my run. On top of there being residential parking in the neighborhood, there are always parking spots available around the park's perimeter. The park is so well-maintained that it will make you wonder if it is even utilized at all! Every time I venture out to it, I usually have it all to myself. Never once do I have to consider a change of plans due to congestion or sketchy individuals in the area doing who knows what. An admirable thing about this park is the view of the United Center from the park's location. With the United Center nearby, it gives off a different kind of vibe in comparison to other parks in my opinion. Some upside features within the park are that there are recycling receptacles, a few benches; its playground equipment that will not only allow children to have fun, but some adults too. I must say that I really adore the water spray featured equipment. One of these days I plan to run through it post completion of a run. And if you are one into skateboarding or skating in general, you would love this park. In my opinion, its features and design would appear favorable to a skateboarder that loves doing tricks. Now the downside features about this park are its uneven ground which makes it not ideal for physical activities, like flag football, soccer, frisbee throwing, etc. The park is small with not a whole lot to offer other than its playground, walking path, picnic tables and benches. And there are few shaded areas which make it a complete turnoff as a place to relax on a hot sunny day unless you have your own shelter. I plan to continue utilizing Park 578 as my secondary option to Union Park. I recommend it, if you are in search of an alternative park to Union Park or a peaceful park consisting of a playground for your children to enjoy. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

The park is designed well for the space it's in but the size is ultimately its drawback for me.
