I didn't hear from them by Feb. 26th, so I called and they told me they were there, and have been for a couple of weeks. I asked why no one contacted me, they replied they did, through text. I did not receive a text message at all from them. When I went to pick up the glasses, same day as I called, I was given them to try on and told it would take time to get used to them, which I already knew from the exam. I asked about no one contacting me and he told me the customer usually calls to inquire. That is not what I was told when I ordered them. If I would have known that, I would have called sooner. When I got back to work, I put them on and they kept falling down my nose. My boss informed me that they should have done a fitting before I left. They did not. I feel that I didn't get very good customer service and would not recommend this company. I will try the glasses for two weeks, but I don't appreciate having to take the time to go back again to be fitted when it should have happened the day I received them. Good to know for next time.

If you want a hassle free experience, DO NOT shop at the Sunglass Hut…read more I bought a pair of Ray-Bans for my son's birthday at The Sunglass Hut at Halifax Shopping Centre, first making sure of the return and refund policy. The gift was a surprise so I wanted to ensure he could return them for a refund and have the freedom to buy elsewhere if they didn't have what he liked. I had a pair in mind that I thought he might like so went in and asked for them. The salesperson gave me the spiel about all the benefits about being able to return them within 90 days--no hassle, etc. Believe me, it's been a GIANT hassle. A couple of days later when I was getting ready to gift wrap them, I took them out of the case and tried them on only to discover that the coating had gaps around the edges and there was a scratch on them. For $300! I took them back and a nice lady replaced them. I gave my son the gift and he didn't hate them but thought another pair might suit him better. He went in with the gift receipt they suggested I include with the gift and he picked out a pair that was about $80 cheaper. He came back with a GIFT CARD that he will NEVER use. I was NOT happy. I returned to the store to see why they did not give him money back. Apparently it was because he did not have the original credit card. They did NOT tell me that a gift receipt would mean that he would only get a credit. In fact, I had sent him a photo of the receipt just to make sure he wouldn't get hassled. He's 22, doesn't like shopping and just accepted what the salesperson told him. The next morning, I'm swamped but annoyed enough to head back to the store to get our $80 back, since I DO have the original credit card and receipt. They WOULD NOT give me my money back because "there's nothing in the system that will allow that". I asked the clerk for a number for the head office. She said she didn't have one. She gave me a customer service number which I called and was told that the issue would be escalated and I'd hear from someone in 24 to 48 hours. No one from head office called me back. The store manager (who probably has six months experience and zero decision making ability) called, interrupting my dinner, to "apologize for the experience" but couldn't actually DO anything but waste more of my time. I told her that I wanted to speak with someone from head office as promised and she said she would pass it on to her regional manager. I asked for the email of her regional manager and the store manager refused to give it to me. I'm still waiting.

Hakim fits the bill when it comes to variety, carrying a large array of differing shapes, colors and sizes. I was greeted and given the dirt promptly by an efficient and bold young woman. She advised me of the deals (buy 2 for $199), but frankly I'm only in the market for one simple pair at this point. I checked out all of the sections, definitely favoring the "World Traveler" area which houses new vintage frames from the early 80s - Yowzah, there were some sweet designs happening under this heading. I popped around and tried on a half dozen frames, but in the end, the prices were giving me the heebie-jeebies. I understand that specs come at a cost, but I'm just not willing to dish out a small fortune for a pair of plastic lens holders. I've opted to go with an old set of frames that my mother once used, so now I'll only have to dish out for the prescription. However, if any store were to sway me otherwise based on variety and trend-appeal, I definitely would have to go with Hakim for their extensive spectacle offerings.

They have arranged frames from lowest to highest to help you choose within your budget. They will do everything they can to help you get the best price, going so far as to wrangle numbers to make sure you have any discount or promotion you are eligible for. There's help picking out frames if you wish and finding something that suits your face shape and your style. The only con for some, but not for us, was that it takes 2 - 4 weeks to get your glasses back. This is because they have their own lab and they are the only one around here who does. They have a husband and wife team in the lab making every single lens from scratch customized precisely to your prescription. It is just the two of them working on all orders from the four stores in HRM, that's why it takes the 2 - 4 "weeks. I'm fine waiting for quality work while supporting local businesses. We have our eye exams elsewhere as we really like our eye doctor but his pricing for glasses is not usually competitive. So this review is limited to the retail side as we were not examined by eye doctors there. I suspect they would be as lovely as the optician who sorted us out. They have four locations around HRM. I highly recommend them for getting glasses or contact lenses. Top of the line service here.

After a month of treatment with the prescribed ointment, I returned for a follow-up visit. My eye pressure was checked again (it was slightly elevated, but I was not told the actual value). The ophthalmologist examined my eye and asked me to come back in a week. At the next visit, the optometrist measured my eye pressure and said it was "normal." My question about the actual pressure reading was ignored, as was my question about the diagnosis. The ophthalmologist did not see me in the office. Instead, she briefly came out to the waiting area and stated that this condition would stay with me permanently and would return from time to time. When I asked the ophthalmologist to name the diagnosis, I was told to speak with an assistant, after which the doctor returned to her office. I then asked the assistant to provide me with the diagnosis and the name of the prescribed medication in written form. I was told that this document would cost $90. Two days later, I contacted the clinic again and requested the shortest possible written information stating only the diagnosis and the medication name. I was again told that I would have to pay for it, this time $35. As a former public servant prior to retirement, I have never encountered this type of service. I am not filing a complaint but rather trying to understand whether this is standard practice or a local anomaly. If I am convinced in the comments that this is standard practice, I will accept it as such; otherwise, I will proceed to file a formal complaint based on this review.
