Having had plenty of bad "American" food in London, I was feeling pretty iffy about this restaurant that dares boast authentic American cuisine; from Brooklyn, no less. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised by most of what I had. The menu has a moderate selection of typical American fare ranging from brunch dishes like hearty pancakes to impressive burgers and fried chicken sandwiches with a perfected flavor that is quite reminiscent of the delicious brunches I used to enjoy in California. If you're feeling a bit more ravenous, they also have a few bigger plates like roast chicken and pasta with plenty of sides.
I'd been craving some light and fluffy pancakes with all the trimmings for a while, and I was told this was the place to come for the American dream of all pancakes. Boy, were they wrong. The pancakes I was hoping for are light and airy and usually topped with berries. These are thicker and more dense with no additional toppings beyond the sauce; probably an East Coast thing. A single pancake - which will set you back £14 - is a behemoth of a dish and comes drenched in an overly-sweet praline and brown butter sauce, which I found way too heavy and unpalatable. It's also too much for one person, so I would recommend sticking to the savory items if you're coming alone.
The burger was a different story. The beef was fresh, high-quality, and cooked to perfection, and the balance of sauce and ingredients made it the closest thing I've had to an American burger in a long time. The fries are also delicious and crispy, and the sprinkled dill on top adds a nice touch that makes these babies pretty irresistible.
The restaurant itself is spacious and comfortable, whether you're coming alone or in a group. However, it's almost impossible to snag a seat for brunch without a reservation on the weekends. Do also keep in mind that the menu changes for dinner after 5:00-5:30PM, except on Sundays, which is brunch all day. read more
