We were visiting France and staying at our friends house and they said that Kayaking down Riviere L'Orb is an absolute must...so of course we decided to spend the day there and have some great outdoor fun.
The setting is absolutely gorgeous, as soon as we arrived we couldn't wait to get in the river and get going. Check-in was very easy and everyone was super friendly and helpful. We had a reservation which seemed like a must so definitely plan ahead.
They set you up with large and small plastic barrels to store your personal items in so they do not get wet in the event to tip over or fall out...very cool and such a great idea. There was plenty of room for towels, drinks, lunch and anything else you might need. They also fit you for a life jacket, helmets for the kiddos and of course you get oars and paddles. They have single, two person, and three person Kayaks so it just depends on how many are in your group and the age/height of any little ones traveling along. Smaller children for instance need to go in the middle of a three person Kayak between two adults while older ones can sit in front of an adult in a two person Kayak.
Once you have everything you need, they walk everyone set for that time to a bus so they can drive you up the river...this way you end up right back where you parked your car. We signed of for the 10K trip, but they have shorter and longer options and even long ones where you can camp out along the river and take two days or so.
Once we arrived at the starting point, we received a safety brief and any assistance we needed to load up our Kayak, get it in the water and go!
The trip down the river was incredible! There are plenty of exciting and challenging rapids, nice stretches of calm and serene water, and plenty of areas to stop and have lunch or just swim in the river. We stopped a couple of times for food, drinks and snacks and also just to enjoy the beautiful scenery and refreshing water. We were a party of two families with three kids and it took us almost four hours for the 10K. You can obviously go faster but there is just too much to enjoy!
The sights were just amazing, and there are so many picturesque areas that you will want to take photos and capture this trip forever. One of our favorite is actually the end, where you come up to the large bridge and view of the beautiful Southern France Village and Castle.
Once you are finished and turn in your equipment, they have a restaurant right on the river with food, drinks, and ice cream. This was a great end to our adventure as we all could sit and enjoy the scenery a little more while talking about how great our adventure was!
Our friends were right, Canoe Roquebrun is an absolute must! You can go solo, with your family or with a large group which would be fun for all! We highly recommend...make sure you do not miss out!
