I know we all have our different experiences when visiting touristy places. Unfortunately for the…read moremanager/owner, he was giving a lot of terrible experiences in the same day for everyone in the store, and people walking by to witness. While my family and I (and other people) were in the store he decided to close 15 minutes early. He was extremely rude to the customers, and would yell and curse at them when they would ask questions. My mom experienced this herself, and ended up leaving the store because she accidentally pissed this guy off so bad, all because she asked him questions about his flawed products. He started cursing at her, dropping the F word, throwing and slamming things around. While I was at check out, (which was still five minutes before the store closed) a lady stepped in and asked just to buy a shot glass that she had her eye on real quick. He stormed over to her and yelled "No! We are closed and I have my shipment to deal with!" Then shooed her away, and slammed the door. I reluctantly bought a coffee mug, but was so regretful that he got my money. About 15 minutes later as my family and I were walking by the store again, another lady was asking for help from this guy about a product she bought from him. We were across the street but could hear him yelling and screaming at her, and then saw him physically shove her out the door. We later spoke with this lady, and she said that he agreed to help her, but the next thing she knew she was getting yelled and screamed at, he put his hands on her and shoved her out the door. Anyone visiting Mackinac Island, I strongly suggest just to avoid this store. There are many other stores with the same or much better products. For example, the coffee mug I bought was being sold in other stores, for a little bit more, but I feel paying five or six dollars more is worth it. And you won't have to deal with verbal and physical abuse like you will at The Big Store.

Apparently, she is the daughter-in-law of the recently deceased patriarch of the owner's family. Personally, some of the art is a little too bright and borders on garish colors, but others are quite nice. She has had much artistic training as well as varied exhibits. My favorite piece in her store was a sofa that you see as soon as you enter which she has loving painted on with cheery flowers on the part where your back would be touching while sitting. It is very unique and would be a jewel in any room. It is worth a look see if you are already in the Grand Hotel.

One cool thing is that they have a shelf full of canned beer loosies that you can pick and choose to make your own six-pack. A lot of the beers are local to Michigan or the Midwest, which is neat. I love that this store focuses on local things, even with their beverages. There aren't too many stores on Main Street where you can get a bottle of wine or beers to go, but this is one place. When I visited, beer and wine was 25% off! Yay for discount alcohol. Little Luxuries would be a great place to stop in and find a souvenir to take home. They have so many Mackinac Island-related things in the store, so you're bound to find a nice little tchotchke or memento to bring home to remember your time on the island.

Lots of cards and behind the counter they have cute prints of wrapping paper. Some things that I got were their wood carved items, a card, and temporary tattoos. Definity check them out if you are on the island, they are possibly my favorite shop here.
