We came during local restaurant week, and we had to ask for the restaurant week menu, I mean come on! We all ordered off of the restaurant week menu and loved the food. The black rice is so soft and flavorful. Pad Thai was good, the burmese spicy noodles were great, the coconut and mango sticky rice dessert was good. But this took almost 2 and a half hours. The food is absolutely delicious. I have been a few times and ordered something different each time (pad Thai, mango black rice sushi, Burmese stir fry). The menu is extensive and includes a variety of different (mostly southeast) Asian dishes. I love and savor every bite! However, you must have time because service is quite slow and takes a while- the quality of the food is well worth the wait though as long as you know your time spent there will be longer than average! I've never felt the need to review before but since I felt my experience was completely different than many others I figured I should. First, the mango rolls were really good! They were unique and flavorful, which is the only reason I'll give 2 stars. I ordered the Curry noodle dish and it had some spice, but no real flavor. I've never had a bland curry before! There were so many noodles, with barely any chicken, and hardly any sauce. My daughter got the fried rice which was - ok. The veggies looked like they were frozen and from a package. (Thai Orchid in Williamsville is SO MUCH better! Fresh veggies in every dish). Then we ordered the rice pudding for dessert. It was literally their black rice scooped in a bowl with overly sweetened coconut milk poured on top. What a disappointment! I paid enough for this meal that I felt cheated. I might try their rolls again at their satellite shop since those were pretty good, but I'll never go back to the restaurant. Service was mediocre. Visited the area while taking my family to Niagara Falls! Black rice sushi concept was very interesting. I enjoyed the flavor of the black rice - just not sure if I'd prefer that over the usual sushi rice that's used. The salmon pieces I got were very good. Highly recommend the tea salad. Very flavorful! Get the black rice rolls- they're amazing! Pumpkin curry stew is über yummerz. The katkaykite was great- flavorfully spicy! Good food, interesting options, like black rice sushi (also available at Orchid in Kenmore), and nice owners. I would go there more frequently if the portions weren't so small that I end up thinking it was a bad value. A small plate of bean thread noodles with a handful of vegetables seemed like a bad deal. On the other hand, if you like sweets, my friend loved her coconut milk sweet rice with mango. Their soups are a better option, and the sushi is good. While I rarely eat in and usually take out the dine in experience is great! Friendly staff and a nice relaxed ambience. It's never loud so for professionals it's a great place to take a small group to dinner if you wanna go over things and enjoy some great food. While I haven't had the time to eat in as much as I'd like I'm constantly ordering takeout from them and even skip the dishes to my office. The coconut noodle soup is my go to but they offer a wide variety or Burmese and Thai cuisine. Really wish I could give this place 5 stars but once again service was extremely slow starting with out drink order on through to the desserts; which by the time we got them we were ready to just go home. It also seemed like a Big deal that we Asked for more rice a few times, as we were a big party and shared all of the dishes so we needed more than one rice bowl per entree. Happy to see Buffalo has (some) good Asian food. My Burmese flat noodle lunch special with fish cakes came with a deceptively spicy side salad with sesame dressing and a sour vegetable soup. Great start. The Burmese flat noodle was like a hot and sour version of pad see ew. Good but I'm still more a pad see ew fan. Btw, I did not see pad see ew on the lunch menu. The fish cakes in the noodles were near street food perfection though :) Do not get this noodle dish if you can't handle fresh bacteria killing galangal. The decor reminds me of a casual Italian restaurant in a Jersey suburb. There are Tuscan earth tones with a hint of yellow gold. There is a somewhat out of place mini chandelier There are booths that look like they belong in a diner, likely a vestige of an earlier establishment but also perhaps intentional. The portraits of everyday Thai and Burmese life decorating the walls, however, quickly remind me what kind of restaurant I'm in. There is a 60's tiki bar if you need reassurance that you are dining in an Asian restaurant in America. Glass adorns your white tabletop for easy cleaning. It's good for the environment and keeps the establishment in top top shape. They also serve black rice sushi which I believe is of the glutinous variety. Not sure how well that pairs with raw fish but I will give it shot if and when I'm in these parts again. read more

Absolutely amazing! We were not sure based on the neighborhood --but we were really happy that we went for it. Atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing. The food was spectacular. Our group of 11 (including five children) all tried something different. My 3 yr old LOVED the pumpkin soup! Food and service was excellent! We came for a late lunch on our way back from the Falls, based on other Yelp reviews and we are all pleased, even our toddler. None of us enjoy spicy food, and there was plenty to choose from the menu. First we started with the black rice salad for an app and it was so refreshing and a great way to set the tone. We ordered my son the chicken dumplings but he preferred the orange pieces from the salad. The server was nice enough to bring us a bowl of orange pieces for him to eat and we had the dumplings. Those were par for the course. I enjoyed the Chicken Coconut Noodle Soup. I wasn't sure how I felt about the hard boiled egg, but once I had it I understood. Then I gave my son some of the noodles and he devoured them. It was a huge serving and so good. My husband had the beef Pad Thai Beef which was also delicious. Noodles were perfectly cooked and weren't mushy. My MIL had the Burmese Fried Rice and that had lots of fresh veggies and wasn't oily at all. My FIL had the Seafood in the Clay Pot that came out piping hot. I had a bite and it was yummy, without being overly fishy. The only negative is you have to go through a not so pretty part of town. But, we didn't feel unsafe getting there . We will definitely be back to visit when we're in the area next time. We started with a black rice green garden roll, Avocado, asparagus, cilantro, sesame seed, cucumber, and sweet chili sauce. Never had anything like it. Light and Delicious. My husband had Suns Loaded Fried Rice which really was loaded with veggies, chicken shrimp, beef. He loved it. My friend had the pan seared salmon file. Wonderful dinner here in late July 2018. Visiting Buffalo for GardenWalk. Sun Cuisines is a gem! We had: Sun "Flavor Bomb" Salad, Pumpkin Curry (with vegetables and tofu) and Burmese Flat Wide Noodles with vegetables and tofu. For dessert we could not resist the black sticky rice with mango. There was a promotion that for checking in the restaurant on Yelp, you received free ice cream, which was also delicious. All the dishes were so flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. It was such a treat to savor this unique cuisine from Burma. Also, the wine was excellent, service was friendly and professional. The decor in the restaurant is lovely. I do not understand some of the comments in previous reviews criticizing the decor inside or outside the restaurant. I will definitely return to this restaurant in the future and highly recommend it! read more

Came for lunch recently and was both impressed and disappointed. The food was great (I had shrimp tempura and spicy salmon rolls) but the service was unbelievably slow. We arrived at 11:30 and didn't receive our food until 1:15. It seemed like everyone was waiting a long time and generally irritated. A few friends ordered different wraps, etc. The soy wraps were soggy - it was clear they had been sitting. We all mutually agreed that while the food was pretty good, we probably wouldn't be back because it took so long to be taken care of. Such a shame. read more

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Buffalo. It is run by a dedicated pair of Burmese immigrants, employs people from the community, and it constantly improving it's menu and it's process. I've been going here since it was a little order-up window at the back of an asian grocery. Now it's a full-service, dine-in or take-out restaurant. It's been amazing seeing the progress. The food is incredible, and it's an amazing opportunity to try Burmese cuisine, or stick to some of your favorite, classic Thai dishes. The fermented tea leaf salad is a must. I always go back for the steamed dumplings and order something new every trip, never leaving hungry or disappointed. In a word, disappointing. Primarily, I suspect from the service, or more correctly, the lack thereof. We had reservations (recommended), and were seated rather promptly. They were busy, but did not have a crowd of people at the door. After putting in our order ("No problem!") the waiter disappeared. A couple followed us in, put in their order at about the same time as us, had their meal delivered and mostly consumed before our appetizer appeared. [Apparently the sushi is.... slow. Not really an appetizer. They could have brought out the salad first... ] The main meal followed immediately on its heels, thereby crowding the table with dishes. I found the food to be adequate, although uninspired. I'm not a foodie, nor aspire to be one. I suspect that the lack of enjoyment of the food could be due (mostly) to the delay. read more

They love to change the decor/layout here pretty often it seems, but what has stayed consistent is the quality and flavor of the food. We probably eat here once a month on average, and think it's great that there's stuff a kid will like as well as more adult-oriented flavors and spicing. This place made me the best pad thai I've ever had. The flavor was so complex but not overpowering, big juicy chunks of chicken and shrimp, very crisp and fresh bean sprouts. Anything but basic. Although they dont advertise as a Japanese restaurant, there is authentic ramen on the menu as well. I generally prefer a soft boiled egg, but other than that, the tonkatsu broth is superb. They were very generous on the nori too. I love this place and I am definitely coming back. I appreciate how they were very attentive to our safety doing curbside delivery during Covid. If you have a lot of time to waste, its the perfect restaurant. The food is fantastic but the service is shockingly bad. I am not trying to ruin anyone's business. I will also recognize the fantastic food/service at their Main street location. My last 2 visits here were abysmal. Table of 8 (otherwise empty restaurant) sat at the table for 30 mins before my wife had to ask for water/drinks, we then waited another 15 for it to arrive. When the food finally arrived, one member of our party stared at an empty table, while he begged us to start without him. Unfortunately, 7 of us had finished eating as his meal arrived. At that point he asked for it to be put in a "to go" container. Said container arrived, no apology, no taking it off the bill. Clueless. This was one of my go to restaurants but after consecutive terrible experiences, we will NEVER go back. read more

The soups I had were excellent. Black rice salad is worth another trip to Niagara falls. A number of vegan options, all the food I order was vegan. The service was welcoming. The server was soft spoken and respectful. My one complaint is that she came over too many times to ask if we were ready to order, i briefly got annoyed. Other than that the service was great. The price is unmatched. I have never had food of that quality for that price. This is the reason I gave it five stars. We had plate after plate and the bill was only $74.
