But to shutdown my online account and to ignore my phone and email messages I find incredibly unprofessional. Why not send me a simple message to explain what's going on? This was just downright rude. My impression of Mike is the same as Diane M. who wrote 2 years ago. I found Mike to be condescending and rude working with him on my mother's behalf. To my mom he gave the royal treatment and she ate it up. But to me he was borderline nasty. When we had to redo a deed of trust when my brother was dying a few years ago, he made sure to let me know what an inconvenience this was for him. I was floored by his behaviour. I would not have gone back to him again to discuss changes to my mom's will and POA, but it is hard to find an elder care attorney. I once got some very bad legal advice from an attorney who didn't know anything about family law, so trust me on this friends, even if you are reaching out clear across the country to someone you've never heard of, it is better that your buddy's wife's best friend's husband who is an attorney - and he can probably just "help you out." Don't do it. Talk to an expert. It will be cheaper than fixing bad legal advice. Let me be your warning. But anyway, back to this review, shall we? So I reached out to Steven and gave him all of the jumbled mess of a situation we were presented with. He had a really long intro phone call with us to get more information and to let us know what documents we needed to get ahold of to figure out our problem. I was a paralegal in a previous life, but these were things that I'd never heard of because this wasn't the area of law I worked in. So we set off, armed with the homework of tracking down some stuff to figure out how to proceed. And we did. And we booked Steven for an hour. He reviewed our stuff and spent the entire hour working everything out with us, guiding us on what we should do tax-wise that would not only help us but help others who are impacted by our situation. He answered all of our questions and then some. And he was a pleasure to speak with. And he didn't treat me like a moron when I asked what the heck a cost basis was, because yeah, this isn't my area of expertise.
