We were told the job would take three weeks to complete, 1 for the outside and 2 for the inside. The first week, a crew of 4 arrived, they started on the outside of the house. For the first 1 1/2 weeks they did great, so good in fact, that we thought at the rate they were going they would be done with everything in another week. Then the company started messing with the crew. Instead of being at our house from 9-5 they were there from 9-1 or 10-2; then off somewhere else. They pulled people off our house and substituted with others, and things started going downhill. Instead of the 3 weeks we were told, it took 5 1/2 weeks to complete the project. They started creating problems they had to come back to fix. They caulked between the garage doors and the stone wall and then used a white caulk, and of course it spread out over the wood and stone, then they painted to cover it up. It looked terrible with a jagged edge on the stone. They had to come back, cut the caulk back to the wood, then recaulk with clear and repaint. They took 10 wood blinds out of the windows. Some of the windows had wood frames, some were plaster frames. They were told the blinds would not be going back up. The windows with the plaster molding needed to be filled and smoothed. Some they did and some they just painted over and left the rough area where the brackets had been. They had to go back and fix this problem. We noticed when they were done that some of the rooms they had gotten paint on the edge of the ceiling; there was also some paint from prior paint jobs along the edge as well. We mentioned the problem, they decided they were going to try and fix it. Edura started and was doing an excellent job with a small brush. Next thing we knew they pulled him the next day, someone else took over the job but used a 1 1/2 - 2-inch brush and made it very visible. They went and got paint and tried to match the old ceiling paint. It was better but still very noticeable. One of the supervisors came in and told us they would have to paint the entire ceilings; another came in and said it had only been old paint on the ceiling so it wasn't their fault. There was old paint AND new paint on the ceiling, and THEY had decided to fix it. You can still see the different colors. The problems went on. We kept hearing that it was not their fault, they were just trying to make it right for us. From their perspective, it was our fault. We were the reason they had to fix the mess THEY created. Outside of the ceilings, the final project does look good, even though the ceiling is still a problem. So I rated them a 2 instead of a 1. I cannot recommend using them as 5 1/2 weeks vs 3 weeks is a lot of our time and not what we were told.

The driver pulled out of a parking lot into the main road very suddenly, forcing me to quickly move into the next lane to avoid an accident. There was also a school bus behind me, so the situation felt very unsafe and stressful. I did honk out of panic, which I acknowledge may not have helped the situation. However, after we both stopped at the same stop sign, the driver began recording me instead of simply moving on. That behavior felt unprofessional and reflected poorly on the company. I hope the company addresses safe driving practices with its employees to help prevent situations like this in the future.

I had them come to my home to give me a quote on remodeling my 6' x 9' bathroom. They came and…read morelooked around for a few minutes and wanted to talk to me in a whispered tone in the living room. They asked me how much I was looking to spend. I told them on a room that small, only about $15,000 max. They then informed me it would take a minimum of $36,000. I told them that would too much for such a small bath especially since I only $100,000 for the whole house so they left. I ended up getting it remodeled for $7,000 plus materials, about $11,000 total. Seems the only reason they were using lubricant was to hold the sand on. I cannot recommend these people at all. Just so you know, I have an education and experience in architecture and engineering. Apparently, to them, I looked like a rube.

But after a few weeks, I am still upset about: 1. They did not show up on the day they said they would, and I had cancelled an appointment to be home that day. 2. We didn't appreciate the owner telling us not to go out and "annoy his workers". That did not settle well with us. They hadn't even started the job when he said this to us. 3. The painters told me they would cover my flower bed, but they didn't, and I am still trying to remove the paint chips from my flower bed. I had to scrape off the top layer of soil and start over. 4. They forgot to paint the trim on a gable, so I gave the guy an extra $100 cash to come back out and paint it. I don't know what he was doing while up on the roof, but he didn't paint the trim - again. 5. They were not careful about cleaning up splotches of paint on the driveway, porch or steps. Granted, those areas are over 100 years old, but it shouldn't be my job to clean up paint drippings.

Larry…read morewas fired from the job prematurely due to becoming irate and aggressive towards me over a difference in opinion regarding the quality of the work his team did. During consultation we had discussed texturing the walls to cover any blemishes left from the wallpaper under the sealant (e.g., seems, tears in the wallpaper). Larry assured me that he and his team were competent in applying texture and had been doing so for two plus decades. When I came to the house to inspect the work, I found this assurance to be untrue. The texture had been applied inconsistently throughout the home. I had asked Larry to only apply a light layer of texture, as I did not want it thick on the walls. This was not what was done. In some places the texture was incredibly thick, so much so if you brushed up against the walls you were jabbed by it and in some places, it was incredibly thin. In some places on the walls the spray of the texture was so spread it looked as if the wall was dotted and in other places the spray of the texture was so tight that when the workers scraped it giant smooth patches were left behind. Furthermore, there were some places on the walls completely missing texture. In addition to the very poor texturizing job, the wallpaper that was intended to be sealed had not been prepped properly and as a result was peeling away from the walls in places. I had asked Larry to meet me at the property before any work continued because I wanted to walk through the house and point out the areas I was concerned with. When I met with Larry it was very clear he had no intention of listening to any of my concerns. Throughout the entire meeting Larry repeatedly interrupted me, spoke over me, and yelled at me, saying "I can see how you might be confused considering you don't know what you're talking about", and "you are a first-time homeowner, how would you know." I told him my concerns about the texture and stated I wanted it sanded off the walls. His response was to add more texture, even though I explicitly told him that that was not what I wanted. Larry, refusing to acknowledge any of the legitimate concerns I had about the quality of the work, demanded I pay him more money to remove the texture. When I informed him that I would not be paying him any more money, he began to yell so irately is face grew red. Larry became so aggressive at one point his workers had to prompt him to step outside of the house to cool down. When I informed Larry that his unprofessional behavior would not be permitted, and he and his team needed to leave he then resorted to intimidation tactics where he picked up my ladder and slammed to the ground while continuing to yell at me. I demanded Larry leave my property multiple times because he was acting so aggressively towards me. I truly believe if I was someone his own size he would not have talk to me in such an irate and aggressive way, but he knew that he was bigger than me and could get away with trying to intimidate me. As Larry stormed off my property, he made verbal threats to sue me and take me to court. Aside from the fact the quality of work was poor, Larry created a very hostile and unsafe environment for me in my own home. Considering the experience I had, I would never recommend him to anybody whose safety I cared about. There are so many other people in Wichita who offer the same services and I would strongly recommend you consider working with them before hiring Larry West and Co. Painting LLC.

In my experience, the process required…read moresigning numerous fine-print authorizations on the salesperson's laptop that effectively gave the contractor control over insurance payments and communications with my insurance company. I was repeatedly told not to worry because they would "take care of everything" and that my only responsibility would be paying the deductible. Several months later, after the company had already collected substantially more from the insurance carrier than I believed the work justified, I received what was described as a "final invoice." The document still did not include an itemized breakdown of charges, only a total amount due, and it included charges for work that I do not believe was completed. In addition Rhoden charges a 2.9% fee for using a debit card. Since Federal law makes it illegal to charge a processing fee for debit card transactions (Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act), Rhoden plays the word game to try to grab another dollar by calling the fee a "convenience fee". Hiring Rhoden Roofing was a decision I regret. Based on my experience, I strongly encourage homeowners dealing with storm damage or insurance claims to be extremely cautious about assigning insurance payments or claim authority to a contractor they do not know and fully trust. I also strongly recommend obtaining multiple detailed, itemized estimates from reputable roofing companies before signing any agreements or authorizations.
