DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID - HAVE TO PAY $4,000 + FOR CLASSES WE CANNOT ATTEND: This is a contract. The latest contract I did was for 2023 - 2025. I did not realize, nor did I think, a kid's martial arts business would lock families in to that long of a contract. The other contracts I have done have been a year long. Contracts are ridiculous to begin with for kids extra curricular activities, a year is manageable somewhat if you need to stop and continue paying for the classes you can no longer attend. I am a single mom. My kid's dad has stopped paying for literally anything, the location has become inconvenient, and my son wants to focus on baseball (which is a 3 day commitment). We have asked Master Hill kindly to let us out of the contract and he is not. First he told me "Other families here balance the same type of hectic schedule as your family". As a single mom, working full time, managing two kids schedules, and paying for everything - this comment was really unnecessary. After we discussed further, he said the best he can do is give a 20% discount on the remaining balance. To give you the exact math: We have $6060 left to pay, with a 20% discount, I still have $4,848 to pay for a 8 years old martial arts class. This is absolutely absurd. Kid's and family's lives change and evolve rapidly. A business cannot do this to families. Please note, we have been loyal clients for a little over 2 years. I have had 2 kids attend spending $1,000.00 + on gear/belts/events- and given the circumstances still cannot release us from the contract. Having worked in a line of business for 6-7 years serving primarily children's extra curricular activities, I can assure you this business can thrive equally, if not more, on a month to month basis structure that is way more family friendly. read more

We enrolled our 5 year old at Summit after never walking into a Martial Arts studio before. My son is about to be 9 and working towards his 2nd degree black belt. I, like many families, have had my doubts, been upset at the cost and wondered at times if we made the right decision. My family has just recently started visiting other Martial Arts studios in the area. I am so thankful we did. If you are looking for an after school program like the YMCA, Summit is not for you. There are plenty of schools you can pay $30.00 a month and let your kid have fun at. You will get $30.00 Martial Arts training. There has not been one school out of many that almost compare to Summit. It's been quite shocking to see the quality or lack of in these other schools. Master Hill is the real deal. Your child will learn discipline, self control, and build on the strengths he or she already has. He will learn true technique and how to master taekwondo. Like anything else, you will get out of it what you put in. I believe my son already had a good foundation but I know Master Hill has grown my sons character and strengths. I can't walk into his school without someone stopping to tell me that he is helpful, puts others before himself, shows respects, is always doing his best, and stands out amongst his peers. I believe without a doubt that Master Hill is the best of any instructor in the area. I am so very thankful we walked through his door 4 years ago and I am so grateful of the positive impact Master Hill has had on my child's life. You may not truly appreciate Summit Martial Arts until you've seen the alternative. I strongly urge anyone with doubts to do just that. read more

It has been a long and hard three years but my son is very close to receiving his black belt from Summit Martial Arts. There have been plenty of times that we wondered why we were even sticking with the program. Master Hill and the other instructors foster an environment of respect and self-worth for all the students in the classes no matter the age. This has helped my son grow and mature not only here but also at home and at school. The initial investment was a huge shock to us and we were not ready for the amount of money we were going to be putting in to this venture. It should be noted that Chris D and Maggie D are "employees" of the academy, they are training to be "instructors". I wouldn't put any veracity into their reviews for this academy. If your family is not able to afford all the gear, which is ridiculously marked up, your child gets less attention in the class. The academy has grown far too fast. They have outgrown the space and the students suffer because of it. They nickle and dime you out of everything, so it's a surprise they haven't found a better and bigger place. Some of the children are undisciplined, despite them being close to a black belt. It's frustrating to see your child trying extremely hard and paying attention and there is another child or three acting up and not getting reprimanded for it. The classes never get out on time and the "rank advancement ceremonies" are regularly overcrowded and run too long. One ceremony was at the YMCA down the street, which was a nice change, but again this one ran way too long. If this is how ATA schools are normally run, my children are never going to one ever again. EDIT: They have since moved out of Fort Thomas to Cold Springs. The new address is 16B Martha Layne Collins Blvd, Cold Springs, KY 41076. The new space isn't much better. There still isn't enough seating for everyone and I'm sure the next "Rank Advancement Ceremony" will still be awful to attend. read more

Summit Martial Arts teaches students of all ages respect, honor, self control, and perseverance. The main instructor, Mr. Rick Hill, is currently a 5th degree black belt and is amazing with children and adults alike. No quality martial arts training will be cheap, and no cheap training will be quality. I've seen growth in self confidence and ability in both of my children, who are students, and in my own path to becoming a black belt. It's a pleasure to learn from Mr. Hill, and at the end of class, the family is usually worn out, and already looking forward to going back. Our 5 yo son has been working with Master Hill for about 6 months now. My son has a short attention span, like most 4-5 year olds! He asked multiple times to participate in Tae Kwan Do, and has enjoyed every class! He asks each morning if he will have class and really likes to practice his moves at home. Master Hill holds the students to high expectations, and my son knows that he will be called out if not following the instructions. This sense of discipline and respect has followed him home and behavior has really improved. He recently enrolled in the leadership tract and is getting the opportunity to help lead the class. My son has been enrolled in Summit for about 2.5 years and has grown exponentially in that time. We tried numerous sports and activities with him that just weren't the right fit. We finally stumbled upon martial arts. Master Hill is a wonderful instructor. The classes have taught my son confidence, discipline, respect, and self control. Tried this place after seeing a groupon. You get what you pay for here. Small space that feels cramped when parents and students are in there. Rick the instructor wants to sign up as many kids as possible and then cash out. Tons of other taekwondo options around the area this one definitely doesn't stand out. read more

If you or your child is truly interested in Martial Arts, you may want to consider a different place. The studio is small and overcrowded. Our fees were $150/mth with a contract of 18 months. You would think their belts would be included in this astronomical price, but no. You pay $60 every time(about every 6 weeks I think) it's time to advance. We got to the point where we just stopped advancing our child. And while we are on the topic of advancing, one benefit of this place is that you will advance as long as you pay your $60 and show up. Then there is the equipment. They force you to buy the equipment through them which is also overpriced and expensive. He would change the uniforms ever so often so that you would be forced to buy new ones (from him). It seemed as though we were always being sold something or there was some gimmick to get your friends to come which always took up the last 5-10 minutes of an already short class. read more
