I am DISGUSTED right now. Absolutely no care for the people who used to attend this high school. He was waiting in the car for his friends to get out of the homecoming dance, because they all had dinner together and he did not have an interest in attending the homecoming dance. His friends were not staying long, and told him to wait. Normal...Then, Mr.Bush comes out to the car he is in, and tell him he IS NOT allowed to be there. So, he complied and went OFF the SCHOOL PROPERTY. To Kids Island. Mr. Bush comes up to him AGAIN, and tells him that he has to leave. Mind you, the park is a PUBLIC park. NOT AT ALL affiliated with Poquoson High School. Mr.Bush claimed that the Principle, Dr.Winchester, told him to tell him to leave. This is absolutely diabolical. The former student had to call his mother's friend to come pick him up. She had to INCONVENIENCE herself to come pick up someone that was rightfully there. I can't believe the audacity of these grown adults at PHS. Making a former student leave to parking lot of the homecoming dance his friends were at, THEN kicking him out of the public park?!?!?! This kid needs justice, and these teachers and principle need to think about their unjust decisions. Disgusting. Also, D-hall has BLACK MOLD in it!!!

Also it's about 10-15 miles from the beach/coastline. This is a military town, so you'll see lots of soldiers. The airport is kind of small and as a result flights are limited, but all in all this is nice place to rear a family and or retire to.

While Hampton cannot provide some things, Newport News does it with excellence. Many of their schools, such as Washington middle, Denbigh high, and Heritage high, are excellent at the magnets that they provide, and it is obvious that a decent amount of money and care went into them. Nothing is perfect, and maybe I'm biased, but it is mostly fine the way it is. Plenty of HBCUs around, such as Hampton University, so the students have great expectations. Great school system, overall!

Summit Christian Academy truly has a family atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome. The school's staff is extremely professional and it is apparent that they have been called to serve at Summit. The dedicated faculty and staff goes above and beyond to ensure the kids receive the best education but also just as important, they show great dedication at fostering kind and confident hearts. However, I took a star away due to the availability of concession items. This game took place after work so there was really no time to grab something to eat. Wishful thinking, I thought the concessions would offer something at least to get me through the two games. Oh well, I made it work and was OK. There is plenty of parking here and the ticket line moved pretty swiftly. We were not able to purchase tickets online - this was a cash only event and it helped to have the exact cash. I am not sure how the school is - but congrats to the Varsity Girls Basketball Team for winning the championship! Well deserved. Have fun and enjoy life ;)

Since I placed my child with East End Academy, I have seen a big difference in his behavior. Ms. Eley and her staff have a genuine interest in assisting the students and want to see them grow and become productive adults. Whenever I call or have a concern, they are always available. I appreciate a school that is willing to work with students that the world will often write off as a lost cause.

I went to Smithfield and graduated in 2010. Isle of Wight is a relatively safe area but there were…read morea TON of fights. My freshman year we had locker/car/body searches at least six times. Students were throwing weed on the roof, pushing razors to the ground, and hiding their cigarettes under trash cans. Despite the bad apples there were also good ones. Smithfield was lucky to have a large number of amazing, caring, giving, independent thinking, and honest teachers for their students. The variety of culture these teachers brought to Smithfield was great as a student for me. I enjoyed nearly every one I had and keep in touch with a few over Facebook now that I have graduated. The lunches were honestly okay; they had a sandwich line, home food, pizza line, and international line. The price in Isle of Wight was quite the jump from Portsmouth where I came from.. 2.55 vs 1.25 for lunch. My ABSOLUTE favorite thing about Smithfield was their special education program. Through this program the students enrolled were able to work at the 'Snack shack' where they sold students goodies face to face. That builds social interaction skills, job value, and math with the money handling. They also baked cookies and sold coffee/goods to the teachers during the morning. The teachers would get their items delivered directly to the classroom. Even as a young teen I thought this was an awesome educational tool for those with learning and intellectual disabilities. I hope the program hasn't changed much; Smithfield was lucky in having Ms Gwaltney on their team. I have a learning disabled cousin who really could have benefited from this type of training while in high school. The school was kept pretty clean, bathrooms stocked. Was not a huge fan of the 4-5 minute class change time. The freshmen have general core classes upstairs and have to run across the school to get to their other classes, which can cause them to build up tardies. I believe the school should be more lenient with freshmen and do a checks/balances of their schedule to ensure they aren't zigzagging up and down the stairs and to and from one side of the building to the other. The buses were horrible and bus drivers didn't do much to fix negative situations. There was racial tension on my bus to the point that the Caucasian students had to carpool to and from school because other students were physically beating, bullying, and harassing them every day. The schools did nothing to intervene, punish, or stop it. One case went to court and I had actually began carrying a tape recorder on me that was used as evidence. The studies were very SOL focused which is a shame because there is so much more to education than passing a test. The teachers did what they had to do and I place no blame with them. Overall attending Smithfield High was okay. I would have rather gone here than anywhere else in the area.. except Windsor High; I believe I would have liked it there. I haven't been back since 2012 for my brother's graduation so I am not sure how much it has changed.

I've been to YMCAs across the U.S. and Canada and this is tied with only one for as my favorite…read moreYMCA! Besides the location and staff, the best part about it for me is the dry sauna and the stationary bicycles facing the windows. I'm also super stoked that it became 24 hours starting this month/April...at least the main workout area is. The only cons I've experienced so far are: 1. The showers were only cold water at the time I tried them - but, in all fairness, it was end of a Sunday and lots of kids there. 2. There is only one Hip Abduction & Adduction Machine/Dual Inner/Outer Thigh Machine and someone is always using it. Despite being at the gym for hours, I've never seen it open so I have to use my thigh bands at home. There really needs to be two of them. Many of the machines around it go unused so they could easily be swapped out for a 2nd Dual thigh machine. Otherwise, this place is great and I feel safe when I'm there. Since it is such a nice YMCA, I can see why it gets so busy at certain times. I adjust my workout time when I can to avoid the crowds, but I understand that not everyone can do that.

I work with them individually well also in a group to be able to get them to swim safely. The changing rooms were very nice and quite clean and private, which was really great as well. Everyone was super nice and super welcoming and we really had a great time taking some lessons there. I would join the YMCA if I didn't already belong to another gym though, because it looks like it has a heck of a lot of stuff. Even a climbing wall! And lots of classes and activities too! Might have to look into that sometime soon!

As an educator myself, I could not be more pleased with the educational foundation my children are receiving. During the Covid crisis, the teacher and administration support have been astounding - in addition all of the class meetings, instructional calls, and materials provided, we a offered 1-1 consultations as often as needed. The teachers and administration have given above and beyond to provided support and meet the educational needs of the times. I cannot recommend this school highly enough!

For sixth grade (still considered elementary under the Montessori model), we returned to the Hampton campus. The school year started off well, but the teacher was a bit eccentric and was let go toward the end of the year. By year's end, we felt the education being provided was inconsistent, and we wanted more structure for our child going forward, so we chose a different path for seventh grade. When it came time for the elementary graduation ceremony, we received an invitation and attended, only to discover, upon arrival, that our child's name was not on the program. He had not been included in the ceremony simply because he wasn't continuing on to their middle school. This was disheartening for him, especially after a full year of good performance and full tuition paid. Excluding a student who completed the year successfully, solely because of where he was headed next, reflects poor judgment on the part of whoever made that call. Because of this experience, I would not recommend the Hampton campus.
