History
Established in 1970.
From 1862 until the early 1970s, the 'Rouse Poor Farm' served individuals throughout Warren County who were in need of assistance. With the onset of Social Welfare Programs in the late 1960s, the "Poor Farm" became an obsolete facility. It transformed into the "Rouse Home" nursing care facility in the early 1970s.
Meet the Business Owner: Henry R.
Located on nearly 600 acres of the Brokenstraw Valley near Youngsville, PA, the Rouse Estate stands as a tribute to one of Pennsylvania's little-known heroes of the oil boom, Henry R. Rouse. He was a self-made man, having been a good teacher, entrepreneur, and a mercantile success prior to his oil fortune. His random acts of kindness, civic spirit, leadership, and honesty earned him the respect of his community. At the time of his death, which resulted from an oil explosion, Rouse dictated a detailed will in which he provided for the establishment of what is today the Rouse Estate.
